Rescue Me ID: 15-07-27-00323Milah (female)

Border Collie    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am CONTEMPLATING rehoming my full-blooded, short-haired, Border Collie, Milah (not registered). She has been spayed, UTD on rabies, crate trained, and house trained to use a dog door. She will be 1 year old in October. I do not want to rehome her!! But she is scared of small children and we are going to be having our first little one in November. The ONLY way I will rehome her is if I find what I feel is a PERFECT fit for her. She is fine with older kids and is good with other animals in general other than birds. Ducks are okay because they can get in the water and swim faster than she can. But free roaming chickens wouldn't make it with ... (Read More)her around. Haha She has a STRONG herding instinct with livestock type animals (horses, goats, cows, sheep, etc.), which causes her to chase them a LOT and she is EXTREMELY intelligent!! She knows "come", "sit", "down", and "shake" and she learned those commands VERY QUICK. She actually learned "shake" by watching me teach it to another dog...She ran over and sat next to the other dog and watched us and when I held out my hand to the other dog the third time, Milah put her paw in my hand!! She is easy to pen up if you need to separate her at any time for any reason outside...she's not an "escape artist". She knows her name very well and minds very well; although, it does take her a minute or two to "snap out of it" if she's on the chase and you call her. But she is still a puppy and doesn't get to run enough over here, honestly, for her energy level. Milah is a very sweet natured dog that LOVES to cuddle and be loved on. She is a great inside dog if you can stand the shedding; if you shaved her in the summer time then she wouldn't shed quite so bad. She does what is called "submissive peeing" sometimes and she does take a little time to warm up to new people. She tends to warm up to people faster if she's not at home, though. If you are SERIOUSLY interested in my baby Milah then please PM me. I am not due until November so I will be taking my time finding her the perfect home. (Less)

ot like to get in the way of the shelter staff to ask a lot of questions on every single animal. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every dog you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive toward adults. As far as child or cat aggression, that is not a standard test that can be performed on every animal. If you are concerned about either aggression, it is suggested that you visit ... (Read More)the shelter in person and ask a shelter attendant for assistance. We do allow you to bring pets in to see if they get along before adopting, and if you elect to do so, make sure your pet(s) are COMPLETELY up to date on vaccinations, especially bordatella (kennel cough). ADOPTION FEES Cats seven months and older are currently $35 as a special Spring and Summer promotion that includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, feline AIDS/LEUKEMIA test, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet and Gentle Sheena is looking for a second chance. Sheena has a sweet, calm and affectionate nature. She would be the perfect new addition for a family looking for a gentle new companion who is just the right size for hugging. This lovely girl has beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart and your resolve not to let her on the couch in just a single minute. Sheena was surrendered to us by an owner who moved and could not take Sheen with her. Sheen lived alone in a basement for several months before she was surrendered to us, she has shown over and over again how grateful she is to be out of that dark, lonely place. Sheena is a ... (Read More)border collie, basset hound mix and weighs about 40 pounds. She is approximately 9 years old but still active and loves to have a soft toy around to play with. She is well house trained, loves to go for walks and car rides. Sheena is used to sleeping in a crate at night and get along with kids and other dogs of all sizes. Sheena would do fine in a home or apartment, would do alright with or without another dog present and seems to really like kids so would be well suited to a family. She has received all her vaccinations and is fixed. Sheena came to us Heartworm positive but has received treatment for this condition. Her adoptive family will need to continue to give her 2 heartworm pills a month until she is fully heartworm free. Sheena has a wonderful, loving nature and is in need of a family that is willing to offer her a second chance at a happy life. If you think you could be a good fit for this sweet girl please contact her foster mom using the info provided on this site. ****Friend of Cats and Dogs Foundation preforms a home visit with the animal being considered for adoption so out of area/ state adoption will not be possible. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Alabama
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
