Rescue Me ID: 17-07-22-00149Romeo (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Had to change his shelter name. We have a human Shawn and I keep saying I have to get Shawn neutered and it's just too... There's an incredible (and sad) story of a lone wolf, of Mendenhal Glacier Juneau, Alaska. You can Google, this dog looks very much like the wolf namesake. It is a great read. This Romeo's story: Deemed URGENT! He was in Ramona Animal Shelter, scared to death, and shutting down. I was told he stopped eating and he started coughing, wasn't looking good. Karen Stromfeld%BD'%BD%BD had him pulled, and Pilots n Paws flew him here. Thank you pilots, and Sue Weis for coordinating. Romeo transformed during the flight. ... (Read More)By the time I met him he was much more open. He hopped into the back seat of my car and we had an uneventful decompression ride home. Once here, Romeo met several new dogs without incident. He checked out the yard and started playing like crazy with the other dogs. He bounces! Romeo is probably an Aussie / Border Collie mix. He has a wolfish head, but that may be a Belgian Shepard thing, a lot of Border Collie lines, had Belgian Shepherds bred into the line many, many years ago. I was going to have Romeo shaved, but I started on him with a rake while out in the woods, where hair everywhere doesn't matter, in fact the birds love it for nests. What looked like matted fur, were tufts easily pulled out, so it was pretty easy and he looks thinner! Way better! I'll be continuing to knock it down over the next few days. But he won't be shaved. Awesome with the other dogs. I haven't seen him lift his leg or do the territorial scratch in the bark, after doing his biz. He's a cool dog. Very mellow and easygoing. Romeo is bout 5, and came to the shelter as a stray. He's kind of a big guy, about 54 lbs. Romeo is one of the lucky ones... He went on his first pack walk, same day he flew in. Gaging by his receptiveness to me after I left him with my pack for a couple hours, I made a decision and kept him on a leash today. We'll work up to off leash. Have to say, he's very gentle on a leash, and would often lick my knee or hand. He was unsure of the water, but he's getting used to it! Here is a link to the story of the the wolf, Romeo: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/03/150322-romeo-wolf-dog-animals-wildlife-alaska-ngbooktalk/ Photos updated at:%BD%A0https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1939322126283857.1073742482.1428374324045309&type=1&l=39bbc4fe81 Adoption fee is $150, to cover vetting, transportation, micro-chip + registration. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-19-00177IZZIE (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed

Izzie loves to go on walks, runs and play fetch. When she's not being active, she's perfectly content to lie in her bed and just lounge around. She's pretty well-behaved. Sit and roll over are two of her favorite commands. Izzie, 7 years old, loves people, but does require a minute or two to warm up to new acquaintances. She's sweet with children, but her style of play would be better suited for older kids that want to walk, run or throw the ball. She'd do even better with one or two fun-loving grown-ups. Izzie likes to play with other dogs but can get territorial around our house. Guessing she's not a fan of cats, but really don't know. ... (Read More)Izzie is in very good health and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Our daughters are 3 and 5 and our jobs are demanding and it's just too hard to give Izzie the attention she deserves. Izzie is probably a mix between a boxer, pit bull, border collie and something else. Whatever she is, she's a sweetheart.*courtesy post* (Less)

She is a sweetheart she has a lot of energy and I work a lot so she isn't getting the attention she needs.I haven't been able to socialize her and train her the right way. So she does jump and bark if she doesn't know you or gets excited. If I could keep her I would but I feel like the situation isn't good for her at all.

Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Wow, she is said to be about 13.%A0 She seems like a much younger dog. Bonnie was in the Palmdale shelter... her owner had her for 13 years... left her there. Not a lot of hope on the horizon... until Kristie saw her and the injustice of the situation. And now, Bonnie is here. Right out of her transport, she loaded up in the LIFTED van, she can jump! And off we went to the property for a swim and a hike. She loves riding in the car btw. Bonnie did great. Off leash from the get go. She likes to swim! Not to mention the fact she met 6 other dogs the hard way! Get in the van. Zero issues with other dogs, and I would be willing to bet the ... (Read More)farm, Bonnie is fine with all other animals. She had a fun time today and she barked when the others barked with excitement, during stick throwing time. Bonnie's first night, she used the dog door and slept on a large Kuranda bed she just knew was for her. She likes the cow hooves to gnaw on. She was quiet as a mouse and slept great after her first hike! And so happy to see me this morning. She is just the sweetest, extremely loyal already, smart, and loves to have her photo taken! Bonnie was said to have some hip or arthritic issues, by shelter staff, but hey, she's got some miles on her. She displays no pain and gets around great. She runs, jumps, and even bows into a stretch. She keeps up with the youngsters, gets in and out of the van on cue. And although I allowed a slower pace for her today, she certainly didn't need it. Hiked up and down hills and roads. She gets up and lies down like any other dog here. Bonnie has quality time left on this planet. Lets see she gets it. Of course she is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Looking for a turn key, mature shotgun rider, who can offer you some awesome companionship?     Dusty is a sweet and bonding boy who is extremely intelligent and needs and craves direction. He is a dog that would love to learn as many words and commands as possible and would very likely soak up agility training like a little sponge! Dusty wants a job, he wants to learn. When just left without activity and something to do you can see that he feels like his mind is starving and he will make up his own obstacle course and track around his yard, going in the same circle and stopping at the same objects. Dusty is the kind of dog that would have been perfect for what he was breed to do, so as a pet he will need someone who wants to work ... (Read More)with and train their dog words and commands and activities, as he would love nothing more than to have someone to work and play with, and then cozy up with at the end of the day!! He loves attention and to interact, but without an outlet for his intelligence and drive he can disconnect and develop OCD behaviors, namely the circling behavior mentioned previously. When he gets into this anxious state it can be difficult to get his focus, but when you do he is on point and ready to learn. Dogs with Dusty's drive, intelligence and need for direction do not generally do well in a shelter environment (even at a sanctuary with a large yard) without enough to occupy their minds and we would love to get him into a home ASAP!! Dusty would be a dream dog for a training minded individual with an active lifestyle. Please contact us at sanctuary@milofoundation.org if you feel that you could be a great team! (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Redwood Pals has a winner in the relaxed Border Collie boy Murphy. Murphy is good with other dogs, kids and cats! Murphy is about a year and a half old and about 55 pounds. He is black and white with a smooth coat. He is housebroken and good on the leash. Murphy's fosters say he makes a great running partner. They have also appreciated how sweet he is and how he just wants to be around his people. He is tolerant of, and actually seems to enjoy, being hugged and cuddled by kids and adults alike. His foster companion is a large male Lab and they have had a lot of fun together, though he has also shown that he can be gentle with small dogs. ... (Read More)Murphy loves to run and play, and has been known to fetch a ball, though that is not a high priority for him. He would make a wonderful addition to any family. (Less)

Lois is around 3 years old and about 55 pounds. She is the best kind of dog, a mystery mix! (Collie, herding dog, shepherd?) She is VERY sweet and loving, good with dogs and people. Not a barker. House and crate trained. She would be best in a house with other dogs. Lois and Clark were rescued together. Initially we thought they were bonded, but since they have settled in they have become more independent. They are available for adoption either separately or together. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Midnight, a gorgeous and active girl who is looking for a patient adult home where she can be a best friend. Midnight weighs about 55 pounds. She is about a year old and is a McNab mix or Border Collie mix. Midnight is smart. She quickly learned sit, down, no, and bed. She is currently perfecting stay. She is also quickly learning about the leash. She loves Saks and would adore jogging or hiking. She pulls a bit so is getting used to the halti or gentle leader. She's excellent in the car, loves it and likes to have her head out the window. She has gone camping and is good on a long drive. She is a talker so she will let you know ... (Read More)when she needs to pee. Midnight also loves to fetch. She is athletic. She also loves water. She loves to use her smarts and athleticism together and would be a fantastic agility competitor. Midnight is nervous with kids. She wants to walk away from them. So, an adult home is more her style. Midnight hasn't shown any interest in cats when on a walk, so may be fine living with a dog savvy cat. She lives in a home with other dogs and is fine. There has been a scuffle over s shred toy and bone, so just as is normal with most dogs, it's best to keep items that cause jealousy put away. She and the female dog she lives with are both bossy, so a quiet male dog would be a great pal for Midnight. What makes her extra special is her personality, she is such a love bug, she loves to snuggle, give kisses, and wake everyone up in the morning. Once she gets to know you she is very loyal. So, while she is shy meeting folks at first, once she connects, she is the best dog ever. Midnight is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She is ready to meet potential adopters within a 4 hour drive of Taft. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Kiefer is 4 1/2 now. Was adopted to a young family in 2015. He was doing very well. The kids are getting bigger and having friends over - a lot! And they feel safe with him around their kids but can't keep him separated from other kids when they come over. He's so cute they can't keep their hands off of him and can't read his signals. Keeping him contained during playdates is no small feat as he hates to be away from the family even inside the house. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Indy is a very active boy. He is about three-years-old and is loyal, intelligent, attentive and treat-motivated. He goes for daily walks and runs in Redwood City and loves to go exploring with his owners. Indy prefers to stay inside with minimal stimulations while his owners are at work and school. He is very well house-trained, doesn't chew on items he shouldn't chew on and sleeps most of the day provided that he has a soft bed to lie on. He will also hang out in his crate with the door open/closed during the day or for nap time. He sleeps quietly through the night. Indy is good on a leash, responsive to recall and knows basic commands ... (Read More)including 'Go to bed'. Daniel adopted Indy from a shelter in Twin Falls, Idaho when Indy was about 6 months old. He was rescued running the streets of Twin Falls and most likely had poor initial socialization before he was found. Indy received four behavior training sessions in December 2015 and a behavior evaluation at UC Davis three weeks ago. He is fearful and can be aggressively protective at times. I can provide all evaluations and training materials. Indy is a herding breed or guardian breed mix and would do best in a home that has experience with these types of breeds and that understands the exercise, training, and socialization that these dogs require. He is extremely interested in cats/rabbits/squirrels and would do best in a one animal house. A quieter home with one or two people would be ideal for Indy, as he can be nervous around new people at first but once he warms up to you he will love you forever. Indy is up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and has had a recent physical exam. I will provide all veterinary records and vaccine certificates as well as leash, collar, harness, headcollar, kennel, dog bowls, food storage container, assorted toys and a familiar bed. I also have 6 months of flea medication and heartworm medication and 2-3 week's worth of food. Indy is looking for his own safe haven to call his forever home. He also lives for cuddles on the couch!     Meet Fonzy Bear! This friendly guy is a darling mutt who is most likely a Great Dane/Border Collie cross but...your guess is as good as ours! We are ideally looking to place this giant goofball in a rural area so he has tons of space to run and play. He tends to get overexcited when meeting new dogs-that paired with his size makes him not quite built for dog-park life. He loves to romp, play and go on hikes with his doggy pack but ultimately we envision this guy on a large plot of land with a doggy best friend to explore and play ... (Read More)with. He loves people and is all wiggle and cuddles but definitely bonds closely with his humans. When new people enter the home, he does alert but is quick to warm up. He is a smart dog who is food motivated and loves to learn! His current foster mom reports that he is as an easy-going dog in the house and has good manners. He is great at play fetch, has basic commands, is fully house trained and has no issues being left for hours at a time. He is good with children but due to his size/strength, we are looking to place him in a family with kids 12 and older. If you're looking to add a country bumpkin to your home who has a million dollar smile, is addicted to belly rubs and has goof-ball personality, Bear is your boy! He is an awesome copilot and fun to have around. His foster mom said she would keep him in a second if she could!     [Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie knows to go to her crate for bed-time. She also knows sit. She is house trained and appreciates a ... (Read More)schedule that allows her to go out a bit more frequently than some other dogs. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. With regular medication and comfort in her environment, Nettie's seizures have been under control. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She would also like a home where she can be on the furniture, since she does like to act like a mountain goat from time to time. With a face like that, who minds? Nettie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is ready to meet potential adoptive homes in SoCal. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

She is very smart, about 35 to 40lbs and loves to please, enjoys playing, walks and chew treats. I have been walking her with our labs and she does well however she has attacked one of our little dogs but gets along with the other. She is aggressive toward strangers and will bite. We have been working with her on social skills and has improved but must pay attention. She is house broke and will let you know when she needs to go out. With the right person she will do very well.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00427GRACE (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace is an extremely smart, loving, and athletic 2-3 year old, cattle dog and border collie mix with a real desire to work. She weighs 38 lbs., and is a moderate energy girl.%A0Grace is shy at first; but once you gain her trust, she is extremely affectionate and will dive into your arms, kiss your face, and then tuck her head under your chin and paw at you for more love. Being close to and loved by her person, is what Grace wants more than anything else. She doesn't play with most toys, but does enjoy playing tug of war with a rope toy.%A0Tug can be used a training reward and a way to build a special bond with her person. %A0 Grace's ... (Read More)fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, eager to please, and a fast learner, who loves her training sessions. She loves to trick-train and knows approximately 30 cues.%A0Some of her favorites include: rebounding off of walls, jumping over hurdles, spinning, and performing a figure-8 around her handler's legs.%A0She usually learns tricks within 10 repetitions, at which point, a hand signal can be introduced.%A0Within a few training sessions, the trick can be put on a verbal cue.%A0 Grace was given a herding aptitude test. The trainer said that with a patient handler, she could definitely be a good working herder. Grace loves to climb and balance on objects.%A0 %A0 When Grace's foster family first found her, she was very fearful. For the first few weeks, she army crawled throughout their house because she was afraid of the ceiling (it was likely her first time being inside).%A0She would freeze and then react if she saw a stranger (person or dog) over 400 ft. away.%A0She could not be in the same room with other dogs, and would even bark/react to dogs through a baby gate.%A0 %A0 In the few months that she has spent with her fosters, she has progressed a great deal. On leashed walks, she is able to walk within 30 ft. of other dogs and 15 ft. of strange humans, and still remain focused on her handler. If another dog barks at her, especially from behind a fence/barrier she will definitely bark back. She is alarmed by quick movements and wants to chase. She also reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. With more rewards based training, she can learn to remain calm during these types of distractions. %A0 Grace is basically a submissive dog, who has only started learning how to live with other creatures in the past few months. She is continuing to improve, but still has some issues being around other dogs, especially when the dogs are moving. She can be in the same room with other dogs, but she tries to herd them if they move around too much. For this reason, she would do best in a home with no other dogs, or a much older dog, or a home where she could be kept separate from other dogs for a while in order to provide a slow introduction. During most of the day, she is in the house, where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house. When Grace isn't training or loving her people, she hangs out quietly in her crate. She is always crated while her fosters are away. Her crate is her safe space, and should be a part of her forever home.%A0Because Grace is a world-class athlete, she cannot be left unattended in a backyard. She could easily climb over (or dig under) a 6 ft. fence. Grace is completely housebroken. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. Grace is usually a very quiet girl, who just wants to hang out with her people and work with them. The only times can be a bit barky is when she is working on new tricks, and when her people leave her.%A0She will bark for a few minutes when her people leave, but quickly quiets down. We believe that Grace would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. Grace is NOT recommended for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. Since Grace is just now learning to meet people without panicking, we do not recommend her for a home with children, who can make sudden unpredictable moves.%A0 In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, with incredible potential, who has had some extreme unknown trauma in her past. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Her ideal forever home should provide plenty of time for her to bond with her person. She needs TLC, patience, reassurance, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things. Quiet country life would be best. Busy neighborhoods/urban living/dog parks are NOT for her.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Grace, please first complete our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Go to the Adopt button near the top of the page, and scroll down for the online form. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
