    2) 7 1/2 month Border Collies. Siblings. Owner surrendered at Lancaster Animal Services. These babies were frightened to death in the shelter pics, and visibly relaxed in their awesome foster home with Ellen. They have since made their way north to CCHD Rescue.     This wonderful boy we rescued from the Bakersfield shelter. They told us had had been found wondering in the ranch areas. His family did not coming looking for him. Maybe he couldn't do his job anymore, maybe they just didn't care. But I am so glad I saw him lying there with a sad expression. As soon as he came up to me his little tail and butt wagged. I knew he would be a joy to add to my household. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tennessee is a wonderful 1.5yr old Female Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. She is about 40lbs. She is potty-trainied, spayed and up on all shots, flea/tick, and heartworm. She has the sweetest temperament and has grownup with kids, cats, and other dogs. She is very smart and would be an excellent pet for someone who is interested in agility competitions or teaching tricks in general. She needs someone who is active and can spend time playing/running/just being with her. She is perfect for someone looking for a great companion and would treat her as a member of the family. She will sleep all night at the end of your bed or in her ... (Read More)crate. She can be left in a yard during the day if she has something to keep her entertained with a kong/marrow bone/yummy treat and is properly exercised-She will chew if lonely or bored, but this definitely not a regular occurrence. She is an alpha female who is territorial of her home and food so she should be fed alone. She will chase critters and other animals out of the yard. But she barks only with a good reason and is great guard dog. We are very sad to have to find a new home for a part of our family due to a change in living situation.     Her name is Delilah. She is 8 years old, spayed. About 45 lbs. Up to date on all shots and in good health. Rabies certificate available. I give her heart worm medicine once a month. She is a Border Collie/Kelpie mix. She is playful, loves people, should probably be the only dog, no cats. Does not like dogs smaller than her. Another dog her size or bigger would be possible. A meeting would be required to see if they get along. She was raised with an older dog, but she will sometimes fight with dogs she doesn't know. If the other dog is big enough to fight back she will immediately give up and submit on her back. She loves to play, will ... (Read More)often use toys to entertain herself. Her absolute favorite activity is riding in the car. Doesn't require an inordinate amount of exercise. Wants to be involved in whatever I'm doing. She lives in the house. She sleeps on the bedroom floor or in her crate in the bedroom. I leave her crate open for her. She will go in her crate when told to go to bed. She is house broken, is crated when no one is home. She has had some training, will heel on command, sit, lay down, etc. Will always come when called, will not run away when loose outside. I have tried every avenue I can think of. I'm now at the point that time is running out. I'll be moving everything Friday or Saturday, 6/26 or 27. Please, please help. If I can't find a place for her I will have to put her down. (Less)

Border Collie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Blind

Hi. My name is Britta and I am looking for a new home. I'm 10 years old and have been blind for 3 years. I suffer from some arthritis in my hips but can follow along on a leash at a slow walk. I'm not too active now because of these problems but I am very friendly and docile. I get along with other dogs and people. I have not gotten upset or had problems with people, children, and other dogs at home or in kennels in past, but I am a little more nervous when meeting unfamiliar dogs and people since losing my sight. As soon as I get to know them I am fine with them. I have no experience with cats. I am house trained and can be left alone for ... (Read More)long periods up to 8 hours but not longer due to needing to go out to relieve myself. I have had a very comfortable life with my owners at their old home in Illinois after they adopted me from a shelter 8 years ago. But they have retired now and are traveling between San Francisco and Boston where there daughters' families are located. I have been traveling with them but cannot take the long car trips and am afraid of flying. I am looking for a nice new owner that would appreciate a faithful dog's companionship and not mind my being relatively inactive and not tolerating traveling. I sleep much of day and can get around ok despite my loss of vision with verbal commands from the direction I need to go. I love the weather here in California. I am too old for cold climates. I like to spend time sleeping in sun or shade outside and feel the cool breezes in my fur. Please consider adopting me. (Less)

Sonja was a stray, found, abandoned, with a litter of 5 puppies. Pups are about 9 weeks now. Pulled from Bakersfield SPCA. No idea what dad was, one little female, mostly white, looks Border Collie. The others looks like mom, some were fluffy. The weird thing here is, Sonja looks so much like a Desert Dog (see https://www.facebook.com/HelpStopDesertDogDeathCamp ), she' looks to be the same mix... a bit of Border Collie, judging by the tip of her tail... whatever she is, the combination made one, beautiful dog! She's a fantastic mother. Sonja lets me do what I have to, to help her care for her brood. Sonja is a completely sweet girl. She's ... He was malnourished and had demodex--non-contagious and completely treatable-- but has just about completed treatment. He is now a healthy, happy dog. He is house-trained and crate-trained. He has a real herding dog temperament and his favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with his squeaky Kong toy. Once back in the house, Astro loves to snuggle. Her supervisor approached us to help this beautiful guy out. How could we refuse? Shelter identified him as an Akita mix. Well, maybe more of a Border Collie mix although Fozzy does have dog issues and seems to have a prey drive like an Akita. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-26-00794Barkley (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Barkley is an energetic adolescent boy who is friendly to all he meets. He would do best in a home that would balance snuggles and belly rubs with an active family lifestyle with plenty of structure that can keep this boy exercised in body and in mind! He enjoys being with most dog friends and if reminded by his humans he really does know how to politely walk on a leash. He can tend to be a little to loving of his humans though so overtime would be best in a home where he can be the only dog or a home that is able to set his boundaries and make him stick to them-did I say already he is very smart? Barkley loves rough and tumble play, but ... (Read More)for now he really needs to learn not to be a rowdy boy all the time and to be reminded that cuddling up with some quiet time will make for a harmonious home. Barkley is looking for a family that is as committed and excited about teaching him manners along with daily training and adventures. Fill out an adoption survey today, and meet your new best friend! Come on out to the ranch and join him in a play session or walk and see if he has the right personality for your family. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
