Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Rowdy is a very friendly 1 year and 4 month old border collie/Australian cattle dog mix. I found him on the side of the highway one night. His original owners tried to dump him because he is blind in his left eye. He's a great dog though! He loves everyone and everything. He's never shown any sign of aggression towards anyone or any other animal. He's a playful boy who enjoys being brushed, pet, cuddled, and wrestling.     Sweet Lollie lost her Mom to cancer and would love to find a new Mom to bond with. We believe her to be primarily cattle dog,she has all the wonderful traits of a herder breed; Lollie is a very intelligent, loving dog who wants nothing more than to be a companion. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

11 months old, Molly is winging her way to CCHD Rescue today, care of Pilots n Paws and pilot Pete's generosity! Molly has been at the Hesperia Shelter, hoping to get sprung. Today was her day! She'll have many more big days from here on out. I was told she was HIGH energy... nope, she's a normal dog. Her owners turned her in and maybe felt guilty about doing so, and felt they had to say some not very nice things about her. The #1 reason she was sent to the shelter, she wouldn't leave the 16 year old Tortoise, alone. So, maybe a home with no free roaming tortoise? Her energy is easy! She is a lovely and calm dog. She integrated seamlessly. ... (Read More)Playing like mad with the other herders, her kinda dogs! Can't wait to see her run in the woods! We have a lot going on, so in a couple days. She flew here without a peep, says her chauffeur, Pilot Pete. And I can vouch for the same, loose in my van on the way from the airport. One thing I have to remark on, she learned to eat from the self feeders, and she's so good with all the others eating right next her, she even stuck her muzzle where it didn't belong, in Mike's feeder, and it was no-thing!! Come see Molly - she's awesome! Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Kodiak, half Border Collie and half teddy bear. This guy is 7 months old and is so soft it's hard to not want to pet him. Kodiak, or Kodi for short, came to us from a home that wasn't ready for puppy energy. That said, he is a nice mix of Border Collie energy with the ability to settle down and relax. Kodi so far is house trained, doesn't get into the trash, loves to give bear hugs, and is just a happy playful puppy! He would love to have another happy-go-lucky dog play to play with. He also loves to play ball with people (see the video). Kodiak weighs 50 pounds at 7 months old. We think he will be on the larger size, maybe 65-75 ... (Read More)pounds, when he grows up. However, not knowing for sure what his other half is, we can't be positive. However, we do know that he is a totally wonderful boy who will make someone an amazing best friend. Very intelligent but needs to be challenged with helping with chores, and taking for runs/walks a couple times per day. She loves to play catch, fetch and swim. She will answer to any command with a treat. She is very protective of her owners, and will bark at all strangers, once they throw her a ball, they will be friends for life! She has not been around kids, so not sure how she is. Needs to be adopted by active owner.

We adopted Cooper from local rescue shelter in August. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier border collier mix. They are very athletic and smart breed. Vet said he was ~6months old upon adoption, so he is ~11 months old now. He is a great dog, completely house trained in no time at all, non-destructive, non-barker. He LOVES everybody, and just want to play and rest his head on your lap. He has energy and loves his walks, and runs. Unforeseen family circumstances have forced us to make a very tough decision. We really need to find a loving home for Cooper. He will make a great family dog for many years. He is healthy and vibrant, and is a ... (Read More)big lover.     Talk about a total gem. This is Brandy. She is a 11 year old Border Collie/Cattledog mix who needed a helping hand out of a shelter. She weighs a petite 25 pounds. Her person passed away and she kept vigil until she was dropped at a shelter. Now, she is looking to give that same amazing devotion to a new family. Brandy is a very pretty girl and she is a very nice girl. She is very devoted and is looking to make a special bond with someone. She appreciates getting lots of attention. She is a friendly girl and is ready to go anywhere her person goes, including out to lunch! Currently she is a fan of hanging out at Starbuck's with her foster ... (Read More)mom. She is polite in the car and is ready to go for a ride. Don't let her age fool you. This breed stays vibrant for a long time. She is plenty of dog to be a wonderful companion. She loves a good walk a few times a day and pulls on the leash since she is having such a good time. She is walking for 30 minutes a few times a day at the moment. Brandy is lovely with others. She is nice with other dogs and even good with cats. She is also polite in the house and is house trained. She will sit when asked, too. Brandi has received a clean bill of health and is in lovely shape. Brandi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. She is ready for her forever home in SoCal. Brandy tells us that she prefers a home with adults and, if there are kids, they are quieter and older. She is a thoughtful girl who prefers quieter activities.     Angel is a sweet momma who came to us as a stray with 8 3-day-old puppies. The rescue who initially took her adopted out all her puppies, but asked us to take her back, since she was chasing the pig. She gets along great with all the dogs here, but true to border collie personality - she can be JUST a tiny bit pushy every so often. She loves being with her people. She will follow you around all day, just smiling at you and begging for love. She is such a sweet dog!

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie knows to go to her crate for bed-time. She also knows sit. She is house trained and appreciates a ... (Read More)schedule that allows her to go out a bit more frequently than some other dogs. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. With regular medication and comfort in her environment, Nettie's seizures have been under control. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She would also like a home where she can be on the furniture, since she does like to act like a mountain goat from time to time. With a face like that, who minds? Nettie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is ready to meet potential adoptive homes in SoCal. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00427GRACE (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace is an extremely smart, loving, and athletic 2-3 year old, cattle dog and border collie mix with a real desire to work. She weighs 38 lbs., and is a moderate energy girl.%A0Grace is shy at first; but once you gain her trust, she is extremely affectionate and will dive into your arms, kiss your face, and then tuck her head under your chin and paw at you for more love. Being close to and loved by her person, is what Grace wants more than anything else. She doesn't play with most toys, but does enjoy playing tug of war with a rope toy.%A0Tug can be used a training reward and a way to build a special bond with her person. %A0 Grace's ... (Read More)fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, eager to please, and a fast learner, who loves her training sessions. She loves to trick-train and knows approximately 30 cues.%A0Some of her favorites include: rebounding off of walls, jumping over hurdles, spinning, and performing a figure-8 around her handler's legs.%A0She usually learns tricks within 10 repetitions, at which point, a hand signal can be introduced.%A0Within a few training sessions, the trick can be put on a verbal cue.%A0 Grace was given a herding aptitude test. The trainer said that with a patient handler, she could definitely be a good working herder. Grace loves to climb and balance on objects.%A0 %A0 When Grace's foster family first found her, she was very fearful. For the first few weeks, she army crawled throughout their house because she was afraid of the ceiling (it was likely her first time being inside).%A0She would freeze and then react if she saw a stranger (person or dog) over 400 ft. away.%A0She could not be in the same room with other dogs, and would even bark/react to dogs through a baby gate.%A0 %A0 In the few months that she has spent with her fosters, she has progressed a great deal. On leashed walks, she is able to walk within 30 ft. of other dogs and 15 ft. of strange humans, and still remain focused on her handler. If another dog barks at her, especially from behind a fence/barrier she will definitely bark back. She is alarmed by quick movements and wants to chase. She also reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. With more rewards based training, she can learn to remain calm during these types of distractions. %A0 Grace is basically a submissive dog, who has only started learning how to live with other creatures in the past few months. She is continuing to improve, but still has some issues being around other dogs, especially when the dogs are moving. She can be in the same room with other dogs, but she tries to herd them if they move around too much. For this reason, she would do best in a home with no other dogs, or a much older dog, or a home where she could be kept separate from other dogs for a while in order to provide a slow introduction. During most of the day, she is in the house, where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house. When Grace isn't training or loving her people, she hangs out quietly in her crate. She is always crated while her fosters are away. Her crate is her safe space, and should be a part of her forever home.%A0Because Grace is a world-class athlete, she cannot be left unattended in a backyard. She could easily climb over (or dig under) a 6 ft. fence. Grace is completely housebroken. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. Grace is usually a very quiet girl, who just wants to hang out with her people and work with them. The only times can be a bit barky is when she is working on new tricks, and when her people leave her.%A0She will bark for a few minutes when her people leave, but quickly quiets down. We believe that Grace would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. Grace is NOT recommended for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. Since Grace is just now learning to meet people without panicking, we do not recommend her for a home with children, who can make sudden unpredictable moves.%A0 In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, with incredible potential, who has had some extreme unknown trauma in her past. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Her ideal forever home should provide plenty of time for her to bond with her person. She needs TLC, patience, reassurance, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things. Quiet country life would be best. Busy neighborhoods/urban living/dog parks are NOT for her.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Grace, please first complete our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Go to the Adopt button near the top of the page, and scroll down for the online form. (Less)

Super sweet and lovable dog who loves to cuddle and give kisses. Adopted him from local shelter along with his brother at 2 months old. He is now 2 years old. Loves to play ball and go on walks. Plays well with his brother and was raised with our older chihuahua and our 2 young boys. However, he has never been properly socialized with other people or other dogs due to our busy schedule. Our chihuahua has always had an attitude problem and has recently become more and more aggressive towards Bolt and just can't risk her safety or Bolts. I can not keep her long, and as soon as the SPCA has room I will have to take her. She is really sweet, and we had really thought we'd find an owner by now. She had a collar but no tags or microchip. She is VERY friendly and just wants to play or lay with you all day. She is good in the car, speaks (howls) for treats and was trained or abused into avoiding the dinner table once food is placed on it. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
