Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sasha lived at our house for the last several months and we would keep her in a heartbeat if that didn't make for four dogs under our roof! Sasha is the most loving dog imaginable. She is sometimes cautious about meeting new people or animals, undoubtedly due to poor early socialization, but as soon as she gets to know them, they are her new best friends. She got along great with my dogs, male and female, and has been staying in a new home recently with three older males, who she also loves. She is very fond of toys for carrying around or fetching and has great reserves of energy for playing. She spent a day with a seven year old boy ... (Read More)recently and they entertained each other for hours playing soccer and fetch. Despite her boundless enthusiasm, she is able to turn it off when required. She is quite content sleeping in her crate or even taking the occasional break there. She has no toy or food aggression and is happy to share everything that is hers. Sasha's ideal home would be with someone who has a little previous experience with dogs that need a confident handler. She will look to her person or to her companion dog for reassurance that the world outside the home is not a scary place. She has been a good student at dog class and both of her foster moms think that she would do great in agility. Oh, and did I mention that this dog loves the water? No problem with her on a rainy day or at the beach! Sasha is spayed and current on her vaccinations. Redwood Pals will micro-chip her at or before adoption. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-13-00060Rocket (male)

Border Collie    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rocket is a border collie male, about 7-8 mos. old, weighing 25 lbs. He is an energetic, happy, good natured boy, who loves to give out kisses. He's an outgoing, sweetheart of a character, who is very friendly and excited to meet all people and all dogs. This pup is good with children, and seems a little more restrained with them, than with adults. Rocket has only been seen with one cat, and showed curiosity rather than fear or prey drive. He seemed at ease with it. However, his energy could be too much for some cats. He loves to play with people and other dogs and has a comical way of trying to initiate play, by putting his front ... (Read More)paws on your body and pushing you. He is big on playing with other dogs (& people), running and leaping through the air. Rocket is a curious, high energy and bold guy, so he'll need lots of exercise and attention, which will help keep him in check - and tire him out for the night. He is also able to calm down. Rocket likes to follow his person around and cuddle up with them, when he finally settles. Our boy seems to like all toys. He enjoys soft chew toys. When playing with some of his chew toys, he tosses them in the air and jumps up after them, like playing self-catch. Playing tug is a favorite game for Rocket, especially with his canine foster sister. He also loves balls, but is still figuring out fetch. He is a quick learner, but still needs continued work to learn basic manners and discipline. He is getting better at walking on leash, but will still zigzag to follow his nose. He is pretty much house broken, and almost there. As a young pup, he likes to chew on things. He is learning about what is ok and what is not for chewing. If he is scolded for something he shouldn't have, he will leave it alone. Rocket enjoys car rides and whether in a crate or buckled in the back, he mostly stands up to watch the world go by. In summary, Rocket is a high-energy boy, who will need lots of exercise and attention, to keep him in check - and tire him out for the night. He will make a great, fun companion for an active person or family, who have the time to work with him and channel his energies and busy brain. He would be a fantastic agility dog. Farley is super friendly and great with all people and all dogs. His foster calls him a 'lump of love.' He has a happy and submissive nature around bossy, dominant dogs. He will just roll over for them, and then happily get up and continue to play. Farley an energetic, athletic boy, who loves to run and play. Farley is extremely bright, observant and attentive. He is willing to do whatever his humans want him to do. We believe he was from a ... (Read More)farm/ranch and had never been on a leash, freely playing, before he ended up in a kill shelter.     Check out this angel! Cedric is an adorable, loving little guy. He was rescued from one of the highest kill shelters in California. All of the volunteers adored him, and did everything they could to find a rescue to save him. Who knows why Cedric is a little shy when you first meet him, but it doesn't take long before he warms up and learns to trust you. Cedric loves to go on walks and car rides. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

It's your Lucky day! Here she is, 12 months old, and bombproof! Yanked her out of Orange Cove (valley, rural), on advisement of rescue volunteer, Jolie, who sends great dogs. Lucky was a given. Right out of the gate (or crate), Lucky proved herself to be a beautiful girl inside as well as out. She was easy to integrate with the pack and now she's Miss Congeniality. Even my stuck up Border Collie Bonnie, loves her. Tanya (nanny dog) dotes on her. She plays like mad with Kia and Nate the youngsters. Lucky is helping keep everyone happy. First day on her pack walk, not even a thought of putting her on a leash. She comes when I call her, or to ... (Read More)my coaches whistle. She's on the larger side of most of the fosters here, probably about 48-50 lbs. In good shape, trim, but not skinny. Smooth easy to deal with coat. And so soft! Lucky is a completely submissive dog with even the smallest child. She's a very happy girl. Been treated well in her short time I imagine. Not timid, not over bearing. She is the perfect family dog. She's great in the car. Beautiful inside. Housebroken, uses the dog door and learned to eat from a self feeder with a flap door, although, she defers to the pack. No resource guarding issues here though. Not allowed. She likes her dog-loo for some solitude (munches on her beef hoof for some peace and quiet in there) but welcomes any dog that wants to see what she's up to. Lucky is a total sweetheart. Lucky is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and ready to go home! With you maybe? Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Angus and his brother, Elijah are the most adorable 9 month old littermates who are probably a mix of Cattle Dog and Border Collie. Angus also seems to have a fair amount of hound qualities. They pups are very devoted to each other, but also fight like brothers do. As littermates (google 'littermate syndrome') training has been slow but they do relatively well with simple commands such as sit, stay and come. Angus is the more mellow of the two brothers. While Elijah is busy guarding the roost, Angus will lounge around until rustled out of bed. The only thing that will get his attention VERY quickly is food. He is the true definition ... (Read More)of a 'chow hound'. Angus experiences his world with his nose, so we hope to find him a loving family/owner/trainer who can provide both more training and lots of room to roam and smell. He needs a fair amount of exercise, so ideally you will have a large yard for him to run & explore, and time each day to go on an off-leash hike or to the beach. He loves playing with other dogs and is very social. We are not sure he would do very well in an apartment left alone all day. Angus would be great sniffing for gophers or rodents but we doubt he would do very well as a guard dog-- he is too mellow for that. Once he gets to know his peeps, he is very cuddly and loving. If he weren't nearly 60 pounds, he would love to be a lap dog. If separated, Elijah and Angus are going to miss each other a lot, but keeping them together will require a very strong 'pack' leader willing to put the time and energy into training each of them independently so that each pup can reach his full potential. They have quite different skills and temperments that need to be encouraged. We cannot keep our beautiful puppies because I have an elderly mother moving in with us and, at over 50 pounds each, they could easily knock her over in their exuberance. So, please consider making one or both of our wonderful pups part of your family. If interested, please contact Jeanine @ 925-200-3857 (Less)

My, what big ears you have! It's Kia! Kia is a 4 month old red Heeler mix, Her intake sheet from the shelter states 'Border Collie mix' clearly, she's not. She's got some Staffordshire terrier and definitely high content of Australian Cattle dog. It's all Arbitrary. We do know, she's a really nice, well adjusted, outgoing and sweet young dog. From the Bakersfield SPCA. Kia hitched a ride here with her friend Honda, with transport volunteer Janice. She's a total pup, ready to go and ready for fun. Kia isn't only cute, she's well balanced and affectionate. She's housebroken, knows how to use the dog door... did we mention that she's CUTE and ... (Read More)SWEET as all get out? Kia is ready to help make one happy household whole! Rides great in the car. Perfect off leash and on. She's well mannered, loves kids and people in general.     She adores people, loves attention, and has a lot of love to give. She is playful (but not hyperactive) and is very calm if walked and played with regularly. Although Chloe LOVES babies and has always been great with our three small children, she gets nervous around hyper kids (boys in particular), so she is best suited for someone who doesn't have children in the home. She is a hound mix so she does 'talk' when she gets really excited but she doesn't bark often. She has lived in apartments in the city as well as homes with backyards and does great in both. She is fully potty trained and-since puppyhood-has never had an accident in the ... (Read More)house. She loves people-whenever we have visitors she is polite and welcomes everyone in our home. She doesn't chew on anything (other than her own toys) and doesn't dig or destroy our yard at all. She likes to play with most other dogs, but she really loves people more than other pets. Chloe is spayed and is current on all of her shots. She is a shorthaired dog so she requires very minimal grooming-no shearing or haircuts, just baths and nail trimming as needed. When Chloe was a puppy she had to have surgery on her knee from an injury-as she's gotten older she has developed arthritis in that one knee. We currently give her an inexpensive powder vitamin supplement once a day on her food as well as vet-prescribed glucosamine, which is about $60 for a 5-month-supply. This has managed her arthritis very well-she is able to walk and play regularly. Other than that, she hasn't had any health issues and she has maintained a very healthy weight of 60lbs her entire adult life. We are really hoping to find someone without children who has the time and energy to walk or play with Chloe regularly. (Less)

Molly gives chase to every bird she sees so she may be mixed with some kind of bird dog.     My name is Boo. On June 5th a Cat Rescue Lady saved my life. I was left tied to a fence for a long time in the hot sun. I was scared out of my wits by the time night came, because I can't hear. I thought I was going to die. The Cat Lady sat with me for hours and hours. Finally she just took my leash and we walked a long way which helped. Still I didn't let her touch me for 3 days. It's been almost a month now and I am a different dog. Everyone says they are amazed at my progress.. She can't keep me because she saves cats but she thought I needed saving too! So we're looking for a 'Forever Home' for me. The Cat Lady says I'm unbelievably ... (Read More)smart and getting over the abuse I suffered faster than anyone imagined. She says I'm so smart I can learn doggy sign language. I'm partially deaf but she says that's ok and I do hear certain sounds. The cat lady says I was probably exposed to really loud machinery when I was young. She says I am totally worth it. I let her rub my belly and even give me kisses. Three days ago I tried giving kisses back. I love walks and snuggles now and I like to play ball. I even drop the ball in the Cat Lady's hand so she can throw it. She says 'I'm a natural and very fast'. She thinks I'm about four years old. I weigh 43 pounds and I'm black and silver. The Cat Lady says I might be part Irish Wolfhound part Border Collie and part terrier. I am still very afraid of lots things so I would like a quiet home with someone who stays home a lot and works at home. I like to know where my person is. I'm a little scared when I'm alone but I'm doing way better. I used to cry. Now I wait. I think I need to be an only dog or with a dog that is very very gentle. I'm still really scared of dogs. The same goes for men, I think if there's a man, he needs to be a gentle man. I love women. I'm pretty sure I could be the best companion dog ever if I had someone to love that would love me too and understand that I have had a very rough life. I never had a yard before and I didn't know what grass was. I sure didn't want to step on it. I was beaten with a brush and I am scared of brushes. Someone tortured me with food and never fed me pet food. I am slowly learning that it's ok to eat and that food is good. If you would like a dog like me and have time to help me learn how to be happy I will help you be happy. Please call the Cat Lady and tell her! If you know someone who is just right for me please tell them to call her. Her name is Polly. Her number is 310-399-7788. Love Boo (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
