Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Chewy is about 2-3 yrs old. Border Collie mix, probably Aussie. She was in a home with Vader, broken fence, allowed to roam, owner didn't care to pick them up when a neighbor called to say she had them. So it was the shelter for them if they couldn't come in here. Bakersfield is no place to be homeless in the summer time (or any time). Welcome Chewey! So far, Chewey has proven herself a totally sweet girl. She's spayed and chipped, up to date on vaccinations. Chewey is great in the house, using the dog door. Sweet with people and great (dog) socially, as you cab see from her photos. And although she came in with Vader and she obviously ... (Read More)adores him, Chewey had no issue buddying up with Shadow as they are both part fish! She loves the water! What a great swimmer! She had a blast in the creek. Off leash almost immediately, Chewy is coming to the whistle, and learning her name. very well. She hops right in the van and rides like a champ. This girl is not only gorgeous, she has a beautiful soul. Updated photos: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1648905478658858.1073742177.1428374324045309&type=1&l=992bd2454d Chewey's adoption fee is $250 to cover her spay, current vaccinations, micro-chip registration and 45 days of health insurance. Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed

Mila is a loving dog who needs extra attention. She is laid back but loves to be active. Her background as a puppy was she was in and out of pound and a rescue group took her in. She used to be super afraid of everything...if you looked at her she would pee. Now she is fearless! :D Her confidence level is through the roof. She likes to chew on toys and bones. She likes to go for hikes, camping, swimming, wrestle with other dogs. She can say 'I Love you' for treats. She is an excellent dog. (She was showing a little food aggression towards our other dog, but I hand fed her and worked with her and she has since stopped. Fyi..My other dog is a ... (Read More)dominant little Papi and gets on Mila's nerves once in awhile..But she loves her. Just be aware for future reference. She never hurt the other dog, I just wanted to let the future owner know.) She is a good gopher hunter as well. She is very smart, but stubborn while training. She is submissive but likes to try and be the Alpha as well. Which is awesome seeing her be so confident like I said before when she was a puppy she was a scared submissive little thing. :D (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-28-00293Peggy Sue (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Peggy Sue is about 2.5 years old and she weighs 25lbs. We rescued her from a high kill shelter in Bakersfield, Ca. Peggy Sue very shut down and scared in the shelter environment and she remained frightened and shut down for weeks. With training she slowly came out of her shell. She is shy when she meets new people and it takes time for her to build trust but after only two months in a foster home she shows no signs of her old self in her foster home around dogs she knows. I'm confident that she will open up in the same way with her new family. She is naturally well-behaved: she does not jump up on people, she doesn't bark, she stays in her ... (Read More)crate quietly, but she is also potty trained and can be out of her crate when left home alone. She takes treats softly; she does not pull on the leash and her recall is perfect when she is bonded to you. She rarely repeats something if she has received a correction in the past. She really is as prefect as she sounds. She will need a slow transition into her new home as it takes her awhile to warm up to strangers, but when she does, you will see her often looking at you with adoration. The best situation for Peggy Sue would be a quiet, active home environment. Please call Becca to set up a meet and greet with Peggy Sue. 415-312-1565 (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Patches. She is a sweet, 1 year old Border Collie mix. She is a nice size, weighing about 35 pounds. Patches is living with a wonderful family and very much enjoys the other dogs and the kids. However, the family isn't able to keep too many dogs, so Patches is looking for her forever home. Miss Patches loves to follow her person around the house. Every time her person moves, she moves. She is also sweet with the kids. She appears to be good with kids of all ages. With strangers, she is a bit shy but does warm up and become friendly with them, too. She is friendly with small and large dogs. She has lived with both. She hasn't been ... (Read More)around cats, though, so we don't know how she would do. She is mostly an outside dog but comes in the house from time to time. When she does, she has been polite and hasn't had any accidents. It would be easy to train her to be an inside dog and behave appropriately. She is already part way there. She is even polite when given a bath. Patches has a very cute crooked tail that she was born with. You won't notice, though, since it is always wagging! Patches is looking for a wonderful, forever home. She would like to fully transition to being an inside dog. She would like to learn some basic obedience commands and also be active, doing something like hiking or jogging. Patches is not yet spayed but will be prior to adoption. She is up to date on vaccinations, and ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. She is being fostered in the Inland Empire. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to local rescues. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed

I'm a medium sized (~50lbs) Border Collie mix from sunny San Jose, CA. I'm your best friend indoors and have enough energy and love to go around. I love to cuddle up! I love to play ball, although my favorite part of that game is 'keep-away!' I am micro-chipped and up-to-date on all my shots. I am very obedient and housebroken, though when I get too excited or anxious I may lose focus, have an accident, or look for something to chew. I'm a smarty pants and know a handful of commands and would love to learn more! I am trained to use the potty in a set tanbark area of my yard! I must admit, however, that I do have anxiety and fear issues ... (Read More)that cause me a lot of trouble on walks, or when meeting new people. I make a great guard dog and will alert our family of noises and people coming to the door but also bark sometimes when I am nervous. I will quiet down once you are with me to calm me down, and my neighbors never complain. I am quiet at night and sleep well unless I hear a scary noise. I am fearful of dogs on leash but I get along great with the dog that I currently live with, so I may be a good fit for family with another dog that can match my love of rough and tumble play as well as cuddling up together for a good nap. I may bark at children on leash but I love the toddler that I currently live with and love giving kisses to kids I meet. I may be a good fit for a family with a child over 7 years old that won't get knocked over by my exited hugs and wrestles! And hey, a big fenced backyard certainly doesn't hurt! With the right attention, consistent structure, and regular exercise I will be your best friend and perfect companion. (Less)

When he came to he ran under a nearby home. I was contacted to help him.     8 month male Border Collie. Shadow was owner surrendered at Lancaster Animal Services, with his sister Nyla. These babies were frightened to death in the shelter pics. Turned into different dogs since they made their way north to CCHD Rescue. Second day here, we went on their first pack outing. I was cautious with Shadow, let him drag a leash. No more, ompletely trustworthy! Loading right up in the van without a word. Great off leash and on leash. Shadow like the water, but not a full on swimmer. Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Her name is Delilah. She is 8 years old, spayed. About 45 lbs. Up to date on all shots and in good health. Rabies certificate available. I give her heart worm medicine once a month. She is a Border Collie/Kelpie mix. She is playful, loves people, should probably be the only dog, no cats. Does not like dogs smaller than her. Another dog her size or bigger would be possible. A meeting would be required to see if they get along. She was raised with an older dog, but she will sometimes fight with dogs she doesn't know. If the other dog is big enough to fight back she will immediately give up and submit on her back. She loves to play, will ... (Read More)often use toys to entertain herself. Her absolute favorite activity is riding in the car. Doesn't require an inordinate amount of exercise. Wants to be involved in whatever I'm doing. She lives in the house. She sleeps on the bedroom floor or in her crate in the bedroom. I leave her crate open for her. She will go in her crate when told to go to bed. She is house broken, is crated when no one is home. She has had some training, will heel on command, sit, lay down, etc. Will always come when called, will not run away when loose outside. I have tried every avenue I can think of. I'm now at the point that time is running out. I'll be moving everything Friday or Saturday, 6/26 or 27. Please, please help. If I can't find a place for her I will have to put her down. (Less)

Ellie is a 3yr old sweetheart. Loves to run & exercise! Gets along great w/ other dogs. Tax deductible adoption fee includes spay, microchip, exam, all vaccines, deworming & flea treated. Ellie would do best in a home w/ a yard. After we pulled Ellie from the shelter, we noticed she was limping on her rear leg. After X-rays & consultation from the specialist, the only option was to amputate her leg due to a soft tissue mass invading her bone. She is now a 3 legged wonder but it doesn't slow her down!

I must admit, however, that I do have anxiety and fear issues that cause me a lot of trouble on walks, or when meeting new people. With the right attention, consistent structure, and regular exercise I will ... (Read More)be your best friend and perfect companion. Amelia has been with one owner from 2 mos old in a household with an older male dog and a young toddler. Rescue Me ID: 15-06-08-00466BRITTA (female)

Border Collie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Blind

Hi. My name is Britta and I am looking for a new home. I'm 10 years old and have been blind for 3 years. I suffer from some arthritis in my hips but can follow along on a leash at a slow walk. I'm not too active now because of these problems but I am very friendly and docile. I get along with other dogs and people. I have not gotten upset or had problems with people, children, and other dogs at home or in kennels in past, but I am a little more nervous when meeting unfamiliar dogs and people since losing my sight. As soon as I get to know them I am fine with them. I have no experience with cats. I am house trained and can be left alone for ... (Read More)long periods up to 8 hours but not longer due to needing to go out to relieve myself. I have had a very comfortable life with my owners at their old home in Illinois after they adopted me from a shelter 8 years ago. But they have retired now and are traveling between San Francisco and Boston where there daughters' families are located. I have been traveling with them but cannot take the long car trips and am afraid of flying. I am looking for a nice new owner that would appreciate a faithful dog's companionship and not mind my being relatively inactive and not tolerating traveling. I sleep much of day and can get around ok despite my loss of vision with verbal commands from the direction I need to go. I love the weather here in California. I am too old for cold climates. I like to spend time sleeping in sun or shade outside and feel the cool breezes in my fur. Please consider adopting me. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-28-00254Meg (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meg is a border collie mix and is about 14 months old. Reason for rehoming- I have been trying to find her a home since November 2014 and have had 8 interested parties but they all fell through. We can't provide the appropriate home environment for her energy/breed requirements and I can't keep her anymore because I am afraid that she will hurt my son and he is more important. This is basically my last ditch effort to keep her out of the shelter. We have had her since June of 2014 and she was adopted from the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and is microchipped. Meg is crate trained and spends most of ... (Read More)her time during the day outside. She has not had an accident in the house in months, but she isn't inside much. When she is inside, she is in the kitchen. If we leave for short periods she stays in the backyard, but if gone for more than an hour she is crated. Most days she is not left alone for long, just for school drop off and pick up. Our backyard is fenced and she has not gotten out on her own. Fence is wooden and about 6 ft tall. She sleeps inside in her crate. She does well on a leash but has not had much experience with walks. I have a medical issue that keeps me inside close to bathrooms and this is a part of why we were trying to rehome her in the first place, becasue we can't give her what she needs. I did not know when we adopted her that my issues would keep me housebound for so long (I have incontinence issues). Meg likes to play fetch with a ball and chase with my other dog. She is very fast and smart and would probably enjoy agility for fun. She is not given enough excercise. She gets bored and barks and digs holes. Not to escape, but for something to do. Meg has had no training but she knows 'sit' and 'leave it.' Meg lives with a 5 year old Boston terrier, a 4 year old child, an 8 month old baby, and two adults male and female. Meg gets along with Buster for most of the time but her energy level is much higher than his. She does bully him and they have gotten into scuffles that I have had to break up. Meg can be food aggessive so I have been feeding them seperately for months. My 4 year old is very rowdy. Outside Meg jumps on him and knocks him over or tries to herd him and nips at his ankles. The 4 year old will scream and hit or kick at her. Inside the house if Meg is in the kitchen there is a child gate between them and she will growl at him if he is waving a toy or something around. This morning she lunged at him through the gate and I am done. I'm not mad at this dog, I understand that we are the main cause for her issues but I can't keep her anymore with her acting that way towards my kid; he is more important to me. That said, she should not be around small kids. She ignores or licks the baby. She hasn't lived with cats but was afraid of them on our few walks. She is wary of strangers and will growl or bark. Barks a lot, digs, hates the car, whines to go out when she needs to pee, playful when I am outside, can be submissive wetter, fearful of new things (I tried taking her to the dog park and she snarled at the dogs and shut down. When no dogs around she is ok). She has been okay with the neigbors small dogs when we were all out in the alley, likes treats, chews up anything she can get a hold of, including harnesses off of her own body. She will hang out with my husband when he is working in the garage at night. She eats 3 cups of purina or costco dry food, two in the morning one in the evening. Going with Meg will be her kennel, her seresto flea collar which should be good until November, her kyjen backpack, leash, and some toys. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
