Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We adopted Cooper from local rescue shelter in August. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier border collier mix. They are very athletic and smart breed. He LOVES everybody, and just want to play and rest his head on your lap. He has energy and loves his walks, and runs. Unforeseen family circumstances have forced us to make a very tough decision. We really need to find a loving home for Cooper. He will make a great family dog for many years. He is healthy and vibrant, and is a ... (Read More)big lover. Need to re-home soon as possible, but before the end of January is our goal, otherwise we will be forced to return to shelter, which we DO NOT want to do. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00052ARYA *Courtesy Post* (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Arya is a 1 year old cattle dog and, we believe, smooth coat border collie mix, who weighs 43 lbs. She has a gorgeous shiny dark coat, almost like a baby seal. Everyone who has met Arya, has fallen in love with her, even non-dog people.%A0She is a great dog to have with you when dining outside. Arya is very friendly with people, and will sit quietly and watch the world go by. While we were outside at a restaurant, we saw her giving soft kisses to a toddler. This is the goodness that captured our hearts and soul as her foster parents. Arya is wonderful with both toddlers and older children as mentioned. She does not herd them, but enjoys ... (Read More)cuddling with them. When you gaze into her puppy eyes, you will see a sadness, from the abuse she suffered as a small pup. She was robbed of her puppyhood by the history of egregious abuse. Despite this, she remains a sweet, gentle soul. Arya has the text book cattle dog traits of being smart as a whip, very athletic, with a fairly strong drive, and willingness to please. She is a velcro dog who loves to be with her people. Arya is completely house trained, stays off furniture, rides nicely in cars, and knows how to use a doggie door. She loves watching TV, especially Sesame Street. Our girl is great when meeting new dogs. She attends daycare weekly at a beautiful kennel-free doggie ranch where all canine guest must pass a rigorous screening process. This has really helped her socialize with other dogs and learn how to fit into a pack. She is currently enrolled in Basic Obedience class. She learns commands very fast, within minutes or seconds. Arya would do well in a household with friendly, medium to large dogs, who are not seniors, have enough energy to interact with her, and will not be bowled over by her. In a multi-dog home, she can be competitive and wants to be the dominant dog. An example of this is when out for walks. If she is walking alone with you, she walks calmly and stays with you. However, if on a walk with other dogs, she will constantly try to race ahead and be in front. She is curious about cats when seen on walks, but loses interest as we walk forward. Arya does need about 1 or more hours of walking and/or active play or running to be happy and calm. A run or jog of 1.5 to 3 miles a day would provide her with the exercise she needs. If your schedule is busy, alternating a day with a run or other active exercise, with a day of just a shorter walk, would be ok for her, too, as long as you engage her in play on quieter days, such as tug-of-war, and give her a stuffed Kong to keep her occupied during down time.%A0 Arya's ideal home would be with people who have an active lifestyle and like to explore nature and the outdoors, and who have experience with and an understanding of the cattle dog nature. If you are interested in meeting Arya, please first complete our adoption form. At our website (hittgv.org), click on the Adopt button near the top of the page, to find the online Adoption Form.     Talk about a total gem. This is Brandy. She is a 11 year old Border Collie/Cattledog mix who needed a helping hand out of a shelter. She weighs a petite 25 pounds. Her person passed away and she kept vigil until she was dropped at a shelter. Now, she is looking to give that same amazing devotion to a new family. Brandy is a very pretty girl and she is a very nice girl. She is very devoted and is looking to make a special bond with someone. She appreciates getting lots of attention. She is a friendly girl and is ready to go anywhere her person goes, including out to lunch! Currently she is a fan of hanging out at Starbuck's with her foster ... (Read More)mom. She is polite in the car and is ready to go for a ride. Don't let her age fool you. This breed stays vibrant for a long time. She is plenty of dog to be a wonderful companion. She loves a good walk a few times a day and pulls on the leash since she is having such a good time. She is walking for 30 minutes a few times a day at the moment. Brandy is lovely with others. She is nice with other dogs and even good with cats. She is also polite in the house and is house trained. She will sit when asked, too. Brandi has received a clean bill of health and is in lovely shape. Brandi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. She is ready for her forever home in SoCal. Brandy tells us that she prefers a home with adults and, if there are kids, they are quieter and older. She is a thoughtful girl who prefers quieter activities. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

He is very good with other dogs and has a gift of getting them to play with him. He even loves cats and is very gentle with them. Djembe is so smart and can learn new tricks in minutes. She gets along great with all the dogs here, but true to border collie personality - she can be JUST a tiny bit pushy every so often. She loves being with her people. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-29-00316Duke (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered

About 18 mos. McNab maybe Kelpie mix. He was found covered in mud! Totally housebroken. Didn't figure out the dog door for a week. Just held it till someone let him out. Had plenty of opportunity to chew slippers and belts, but perfect and trustworthy in my home. No herding tendencies. Not mouthy, Like many herders, doesn't 'hold your hand'. Great with the pack integration. Here's what know about Duke: Readers digest version: Needs a savvy owner. Not socialized properly as a youngster, doesn't really understand appropriate behavior. A little insecure with new dogs. Stiffens and moves slowly, checking out new dogs. That goes away with ... (Read More)verbal correction from the pack leader. Great on pack walks. Comes to the whistle! Also walks well on leash. Gets along with cats. Great in the house. Here's the in depth explanation of Duke: If you're looking at Duke, you chose an interesting dog. Not a no brainer. Been working with him. He came here pretty much thinking he can do what he wants. He did already have great house manners. Not knowing how to use a dog door (unbeknownst to me) I left him in the house for probably 14 hours at least. But I already knew Duke was a saint in the house. What I did not realize, he didn't follow my dogs go in or out. Came home to Duke with legs crossed! No accidents or destruction. Let him out and he peed for 5 minutes. Taught him to use the dog door! So,One hurdle jumped. He can be left in and trusted, and now uses a dog door if you had one. Next; Great on leash, no reactivity to urban situations, dogs on leash, strollers , bikes, skateboards, solid. Great off leash (always in on motorized vehicle areas, please). Another hurdle cleared. What I see, is improper socialization, plus alpha male. He's fine with other alpha males in open environments, off leash or my yard, even in the van. But, at times, and I can see it before it happens, he meets another dog like himself, slow walk, stiffening of the body, tail's up, ears high as can be, trying to be bigger than he is, neck over the neck of the offender, and if you don't stop it verbally (which you can) he will give as good as he gets. I carry a stun baton, and the sound of it breaks up unexpected crap, I haven't had a problem but anyone that is interested in Duke, needs to be aware and able to make that decision. We generally don't kennel the dogs, they have to get along in one large yard. I had been muzzling Duke while in the general population, when isolated, take the muzzle off. He's realized the difference, the aim, and has changed his behavior. But his owner needs to know this and be prepared. He is not a killer, but he can fight if he's with a dysfunctionally socialized dog. Off leash, meeting new dogs, he's quite laid back and polite. I do meet other dogs on the acreage we hike, and he actually runs to me afraid of the new dogs, so I know this is just bravado or insecurity when he fronts with new pack members. My pack continually revolves. Newcomers every week if not daily. Submissive or smaller males, or females, he is very nice. He's also been proven trustworthy around cats... Duke is respectful with humans, but there's a limit. You have to be fair. This is not a dog to be bullied. I'm careful with new dogs, taking them by the collar, I leash them up until I know them. I can muzzle Duke, with zero resistance. And something I do with dogs that don't get get along, is ground the dog that starts it. Meaning put them on their side like another dog would do. In grounding Duke, I made sure to have him muzzled first! I learned to do that when he growled at me the first time I went to put him on his side. This is to establish the dominant figure. They see me as another dog, and I have to be the biggest baddest dog at all times. Duke tried to challenge that. But as I said, I had a muzzle on him, so I listened to, and watched his protest, until he relaxed, and then let him up, only when I said it was alright for him to get up. Sounds nuts if you're not familiar with dog behavior. But it's working and he's gotten better every day. He won't be adopted to anyone who isn't dog savvy enough to handle him. In his own home with a family or an owner, he's going to do great. He's learning basic do's and don'ts here. And I have had way worse dogs go on to great lives. This is simply full disclosure about a dog, that didn't get this early learning stuff like he should have. Now, if you'd like to talk further about this intelligent, handsome, and somewhat challenging guy, I'm happy to. This is all I can tell you about Duke. His saving grace, I must say, is his willingness to stick with me in the open, and his great manners indoors and out. he's not a barker, digger, not anxious, can be left alone, and all these things balance out the issues I have had to work with him on. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie knows to go to her crate for bed-time. She also knows sit. She is house trained and appreciates a ... (Read More)schedule that allows her to go out a bit more frequently than some other dogs. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. With regular medication and comfort in her environment, Nettie's seizures have been under control. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She would also like a home where she can be on the furniture, since she does like to act like a mountain goat from time to time. With a face like that, who minds? Nettie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is ready to meet potential adoptive homes in SoCal. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

7/28/16 Update: These 2 wonderful dogs have never had a place to call home. We are open to adopting them out separately with a trial period to make sure they are happy. Lois and Clark are best friends and have been through a lot together. They are a bonded pair and together they could make your family complete. They were reunited after having a week apart and when they saw each other they hugged and kiss. We could clearly see how much they loved each other. They are low maintenance, house trained, walk great on leash, love toys, and not high energy. Healthy, fixed, vaccinated and chipped. Clark (brown) is a 2 yr old pit mix. He is ... (Read More)very sweet & loving but shy at first. He is an inquisitive, bright boy. He just had training & did very well. An owner who continues calm assertiveness would be ideal. He does not do well with dogs who are dominant. He particularly loves playing with small, male dogs. He is submissive & good with all people and has found his soulmate in Lois. Lois is around 2 years old and about 50 pounds. She is the best kind of dog, a mystery mix! (Collie, Shepherd, Pit?) She is very sweet and loving, good with dogs and people. Not a barker. She is well on her way to being 100% house trained. In a pinch, she has used the pee pads. Not bad for a girl who hasn't had a place to call home. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization. Adoption process includes an adoption contract and home check. Adoption fee for dogs are $300 - 500 and for cats are $175. All of our animals are fixed, vaccinated, and chipped. I have been walking her with our labs and she does well however she has attacked one of our little dogs but gets along with the other. She is aggressive toward strangers and will bite. We have been working with her on social skills and has improved but must pay attention. She is house broke and will let you know when she needs to go out. With the right person she will do very well.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00427GRACE (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace is a 2-3 year old, 38 lb., cattle dog/border collie mix, with a low to moderate energy level. She's extremely sweet and affectionate once she feels she can trust you. More than anything, she wants to be loved and close to her person. She'll jump up to hug and give you sweet kisses. Currently, everything around her is new and overwhelming to her. Grace is very shy, and extremely cautious and nervous when meeting new people. Grace's fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, loves her training sessions, and is fun to train. As a loving, eager to please girl, she a fast ... (Read More)learner, who has come very far in her training over the last eight weeks. She knows her name, sit, down, touch, jump, hi five and shake. Her recall is also good. In one night her fosters taught her to crawl, and to roll to her side to settle. Grace's training mostly takes place in the house, where she is most comfortable. She would benefit from work with a one on one trainer, and brain games. Grace is our Eliza Doolittle. She was found as a terrified stray, who avoided all creatures. Besides being initially fearful of unknown people, she seems to have had no prior training, and no social skills and likely no past interactions with other dogs. She is very awkward and stiff, as if unsure about how to behave with another dog. She tends to rush over to other dogs and freezes up; and when they move, she will immediately try to herd or control their movements. Grace does not know how to play with other dogs and is not interested in fetch or toys at all. She has only recently learned to play tug with her fosters. For fun, she enjoys her chewing items and receiving attention from her humans. When you cuddle with her, Grace melts in your arms and is big on giving kisses, and rolls over to ask for belly rubs. If you pull your hands away while petting her, she will begin to burrow into your arms or lap. She wants to be a lap dog! During most of the day, she is in the house where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house and crate. She is able to entertain herself with interactive food toys and marrow bones. However, she wants TONS of attention before she'll self entertain or settle. As she is feeling more secure, she is now settling much more quickly. For exercise, her fosters take Grace to an enclosed field to run around. Grace has made great strides, and can walk or play in a park for up to 30 minutes. At first, she would melt down after 10-15 minutes, from the cars, noise, people and dogs. Grace is completely housebroken. She may hold it for hours, if she is someplace where she is not comfortable. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. When meeting new people, Grace is quite cautious and will usually hide behind her person. She will warm up to you, if you go slow and give her space. People first meeting her should ignore her or toss treats from a distance. Grace is very sensitive to prolonged eye contact from new people. She will growl to communicate that she feels uneasy, but nothing more. Since Grace has a tough time meeting people in general, we do not recommend her for a home with children. Quick movements get her hackles up and she wants to chase. She reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. We have a herding aptitude test scheduled for her. Grace walks fairly nicely on leash, until there is a trigger (seeing a cat, dogs walking on leash or barking behind fences). She will bark, pull, and lunge. Her fosters are working on this reactivity, and report that she is making good progress, with much less barking and pulling in these situations. We see Grace as basically a submissive dog. However, she is still socially awkward. Her fosters believe she will eventually be fine with other polite or disinterested, adult dogs, but to get there, all dog meetings must be positive experiences. Until she becomes more dog social, we don't recommend her in a home with other dogs, especially young energetic ones. In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, who has endured extreme unknown trauma. She needs plenty of TLC, patience, reassurance, time, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things, to learn how to be happy and confident. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Grace's fosters feel she would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. In the yard, she should not be left alone. If stressed, she may dig and attempt to escape. Grace's foster also does NOT recommend her for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. If you are interested in meeting Grace, please complete our adoption form at hittgv.org (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Coco's siblings were all adopted through CCHD Rescue, Molly, Margaret, Jimmy and Jake. Just under 4 years old, Coco is 1/2 Aussie 1/2 Border Collie. Please read what Lisa, caregiver to the humans that produced these dogs, and advocate for Coco and her siblings wrote about her: Born January 2013. - female - red (brown) and white. She is very petite at approximately 25 lbs. The runt of the litter. She is now spayed and in foster care. We're learning a lot about Coco. She had been confined to a 16 x 52 pen her whole life. Isolated most of the time. The observations from Kalyn: She's warming up to my dogs. Sleeps by my door and has not even ... (Read More)attempted to chase or bark at the cats. I don't have her kenneled or tethered, and I haven't seen any evidence of her trying to escape my yard. I think she's a lovely pup, just needs some more attention My only concern for an older person with her would be she is quite a trip hazard! She stays directly in front of my feet wherever I walk. But this could be worked out. She is very quiet dog. Doesn't whine or bark while in the house. She does beg for human food. Coco was curious about the baby but wasn't in her face like some could be. She is also laying down on command. Coco is doing well with my grandniece. Coco is a gorgeous dog, that had very little chance at life. No socialization until her owners caregiver, Lisa came on the scene, and advocated the entire family of dogs. All of which were fantastic, and Coco is the last to need re-homing. The dogs owners are not the most stable people in the world, breeding these Aussie / Border Collies, which are now all spayed and neutered and have homes, with the exception of Coco, the last one. These dogs were basically being hoarded. Coco now has a chance. Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament

Dio is an amazing dog who was found as a scared stray in Hemet. We estimate him to be about 4-5 years old. When Dio came to us, he had a huge bulge on his rear foot (which you can see in his picture, in addition to the bunny ears!). We have since had the mass tested (it was non-malignant) and removed, as well as 2 small low grade mast cell tumors. He is now happy, healthy, and doing great, and looking for his own family! He loves to be with people, and will smile away happily -- and what a great smile! Dio is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, and ready to go to his new home! For those who know this breed, you will know that this is an ideal age. He is full of action but has none of the puppy craziness that lasts in Cattledogs for the first few years. He is an affectionate guy who also loves to play. Squeaky toys are a big hit with him. Angus is ready for his forever home. Breed experience and a vet check are required to adopt Angus. (Less)

5 year old neutered male Queensland heeler mix that we are seeking a new home for. Looking for a loving home for this very smart, very loyal dog. Loves people but doesn't like our male jack Russell (this is why we are re-homing him). Would probably chase cats, so would be better in a home without cats or other dogs. Small children would not be a good match since he has a very strong herding instinct and would chase and likely knock them down. Needs lots of exexcise and gets anxious if not exercised enough.     Meet Jackson! This amazingly sweet approximately 13 year old Border Collie sadly lost his owner. After his owner passed away the next of kin couldn't afford to care for Jackson so he was released somewhere on the eastside of town, where he wandered in search of food. When I was contacted to rescue him he was injured, had a coat full of stickers and foxtails, he was grieving his loss and starving. After grooming, vet care and talking with an animal communicator we've really gotten Jackson to open up! He's now a happy senior border collie. Jackson does have some special needs, he requires and 50/50 mix of soft and hard food as he is missing ... (Read More)quite a few teeth, he's is hard of hearing and is losing his eyesight as well. None of that hinders his fetching skills though. If you'd like to make a senior Border Collie happy for his remaining days, send me an email to inquire about an adoption application.      This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Check out Turbo, a seemingly super mellow guy.     Backstory: Happy and his life long companion, a Beagle, both seniors were dumped at a shelter in LA county by their owners. A rescue came and took the Beagle, leaving Happy behind. We were told of this story and rescued him. Happy has been in foster care for 3 months and he still has moments where he looks very sad, still missing his best friend. Happy is great with humans and other dogs. he is NOT good with cats or small farm animals. Happy is a very affectionate and loving boy............unless you tell him to do something. He was apparently the alpha in his last home and took orders from nobody. His current foster has made ... (Read More)progress with him but feels somebody more assertive would be the best thing for him. We do have a trainer avaiable by phone to help with this issue, which is very fixable with a confident human alpha. When we first got Happy, he was so filthy and matted that he had to be shaved down but his coat has since grown out beautifully. He is a senior boy that deserves a warm bed and a loving home to spend his golden years. If you are interested in this boy, please fill out our adoption application: http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application Happy's adoption fee is 150 and all fees are used for future rescue efforts. I can not keep her long, and as soon as the SPCA has room I will have to take her. She is really sweet, and we had really thought we'd find an owner by now. She had a collar but no tags or microchip. She is VERY friendly and just wants to play or lay with you all day. She is good in the car, speaks (howls) for treats and was trained or abused into avoiding the dinner table once food is placed on it. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
