    N. male about 4 years old, up to date on his rabies. Originally a rescue dog, this BEAUTIFUL, SWEET and SHY boy belonged to my parents but my mother recently died. We need to find him a new loving home. Jet is most comfortable with calm adults in a peaceful environment. He is not a typical border collie. Although he has some energy and likes to play, he loves to lean on his human friends, and is somewhat like 'velcro', so he really appreciates humans that are home a lot and able to spend time with him and just be near him. He loves other dogs and is happiest when he has another dog around to show him the ropes. He also does well with cats. ... (Read More)His name is Jet, but he really doesn't like airplanes!     Sonja was a stray, found, abandoned, with a litter of 5 puppies. Pups are about 9 weeks now. Pulled from Bakersfield SPCA. No idea what dad was, one little female, mostly white, looks Border Collie. The others looks like mom, some were fluffy. The weird thing here is, Sonja looks so much like a Desert Dog (see https://www.facebook.com/HelpStopDesertDogDeathCamp ), she' looks to be the same mix... a bit of Border Collie, judging by the tip of her tail... whatever she is, the combination made one, beautiful dog! She's a fantastic mother. Sonja lets me do what I have to, to help her care for her brood. Sonja is a completely sweet girl. She's ... Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

He came named Lazy Bone? A Border Collie, named LAzy Bone... really? Working on an alternative! Lazy is not lazy! He's not crazy high energy either, totally reasonable energy wise. Easy guy. 2 yrs and 2 mos old. Lazy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and micr-chipped. Talk about a ball dog! He loves to play. Owner surrendered in Fresno, it was noted how rough the guy was that dumped him off. Lazy is well rid of that situation! I haven't seen Lazy around men, he's an absolute doll around the women I've seen him interact with. Lazy is very impresive in appearance. Very tall! And lean, great shape, he's only about 55- 60 lbs, Trots ... (Read More)like a pony! Very graceful. Poetry to watch him. I was a little concerned about a dog like him taking off and I would never be able to catch him, but a leap of faith later, and he was running down the dirt road, stopping to make sure I was following. Turned and ran after me if I diddn't. Second day out I didn't even consider leashing him up. he's awesome. Lazy is fantastic with the pack! Crammed in the back of the van with a lot of large loose dogs, on the way to our walking spot, not a peep out of them. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-28-00254Meg (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meg is a border collie mix and is about 14 months old. Reason for rehoming- I have been trying to find her a home since November 2014 and have had 8 interested parties but they all fell through. We can't provide the appropriate home environment for her energy/breed requirements and I can't keep her anymore because I am afraid that she will hurt my son and he is more important. This is basically my last ditch effort to keep her out of the shelter. We have had her since June of 2014 and she was adopted from the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and is microchipped. Meg is crate trained and spends most of ... (Read More)her time during the day outside. She has not had an accident in the house in months, but she isn't inside much. When she is inside, she is in the kitchen. If we leave for short periods she stays in the backyard, but if gone for more than an hour she is crated. Most days she is not left alone for long, just for school drop off and pick up. Our backyard is fenced and she has not gotten out on her own. Fence is wooden and about 6 ft tall. She sleeps inside in her crate. She does well on a leash but has not had much experience with walks. I have a medical issue that keeps me inside close to bathrooms and this is a part of why we were trying to rehome her in the first place, becasue we can't give her what she needs. I did not know when we adopted her that my issues would keep me housebound for so long (I have incontinence issues). Meg likes to play fetch with a ball and chase with my other dog. She is very fast and smart and would probably enjoy agility for fun. She is not given enough excercise. She gets bored and barks and digs holes. Not to escape, but for something to do. Meg has had no training but she knows 'sit' and 'leave it.' Meg lives with a 5 year old Boston terrier, a 4 year old child, an 8 month old baby, and two adults male and female. Meg gets along with Buster for most of the time but her energy level is much higher than his. She does bully him and they have gotten into scuffles that I have had to break up. Meg can be food aggessive so I have been feeding them seperately for months. My 4 year old is very rowdy. Outside Meg jumps on him and knocks him over or tries to herd him and nips at his ankles. The 4 year old will scream and hit or kick at her. Inside the house if Meg is in the kitchen there is a child gate between them and she will growl at him if he is waving a toy or something around. This morning she lunged at him through the gate and I am done. I'm not mad at this dog, I understand that we are the main cause for her issues but I can't keep her anymore with her acting that way towards my kid; he is more important to me. That said, she should not be around small kids. She ignores or licks the baby. She hasn't lived with cats but was afraid of them on our few walks. She is wary of strangers and will growl or bark. Barks a lot, digs, hates the car, whines to go out when she needs to pee, playful when I am outside, can be submissive wetter, fearful of new things (I tried taking her to the dog park and she snarled at the dogs and shut down. When no dogs around she is ok). She has been okay with the neigbors small dogs when we were all out in the alley, likes treats, chews up anything she can get a hold of, including harnesses off of her own body. She will hang out with my husband when he is working in the garage at night. She eats 3 cups of purina or costco dry food, two in the morning one in the evening. Going with Meg will be her kennel, her seresto flea collar which should be good until November, her kyjen backpack, leash, and some toys. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Astro was in rough shape when we rescued him from Stockton, CA Animal Services, but two months later, he is healed and ready for a home of his own. He was malnourished and had demodex--non-contagious and completely treatable-- but has just about completed treatment. He is now a healthy, happy dog. He is house-trained and crate-trained. He has a real herding dog temperament and his favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with his squeaky Kong toy. Once back in the house, Astro loves to snuggle. Because of his energy level, he would do best in a home where the kids are old enough to play fetch and provide some of the exercise and activity ... (Read More)Astro needs! (Less)

Meet Fozzy Bear. Fozzy came in to the Lancaster shelter as an owner surrender due to finances. A kennel attendant took it upon herself to work with Fozzy in order to help him get out of there. Her supervisor approached us to help this beautiful guy out. How could we refuse? Shelter identified him as an Akita mix. Well, maybe more of a Border Collie mix although Fozzy does have dog issues and seems to have a prey drive like an Akita. He is very trainable and loves people but will need help in adjusting to other dogs. Typical of Border Collies, he loves to jump. He needs a secure roofed kennel or constant supervision. He can be a little shy at first and then warms up to be very affectionate and ready for loving. Ty will need regular exercise, more than just a walk around the block or a romp in the yard but he isn't a high energy live wire. He is a full-grown adult not in the puppy pranks stage but still needing a guiding hand in obedience training, and like most shelter dogs, he will need a refresher on housetraining. Ty is dreaming of finding a warm and loving forever home! All he needs is a caring person or family to give him all the love and care (and treats!) he deserves! (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Meet Hope... she has some now. Left at Ramona Animal services, Hope is only about 7 months old. Little Australian Cattle Dog / Border Collie mix, definitely has working instinct, and knows not what to do with it. So she herds dogs, beautifully, but the pack does not appreciate that! Since she got here today, she's learned that's not appropriate behavior and she's having ball with the rest of the pack now. Hope had an accident when she was younger, a broken foot. It was allowed to heal, poorly. She gets around fine. She actually is at an advantage as it is her rear leg. She was seen by my awesome vet, last Weds. We have 3 options, 1. Leave ... (Read More)it, she uses it to balance while standing sitting and lying down. And it causes no pain for her and will not in the future. 2. Amputate above the foot, get her a prosthesis. I got quotes on both. 3. Amputate completely, a more expensive surgery. She showed me an interesting side, on a walk with a prospective adoptive family, Hope was giving me trouble on leash, and I realized, she kept looking back at the couple little stragglers in our group. It wasn't until all of us, were in formation and walking as a group, that Hope relaxed into a nice walk. She wanted her flock all together! Especially the kids. Hope should be a family with young children, she's going to be the best nanny! Now Hope is chilling here with the pack. Living like it's home. Goes on daily off leash pack walks. and runs like the wind. She loves to go on walks. On or off leash. Great with the other dogs. House broken and using my dog door. Perfect indoor manners. No worries when she's inside. Rides beautifully in a vehicle. Hope is beautiful. Soft shiny coat and classic Border Collie/ Queensland. Very intelligent little thing. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
