Rescue Me ID: 17-05-22-00253Indy (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Indy is a very active boy. He is about three-years-old and is loyal, intelligent, attentive and treat-motivated. He goes for daily walks and runs in Redwood City and loves to go exploring with his owners. Indy prefers to stay inside with minimal stimulations while his owners are at work and school. He is very well house-trained, doesn't chew on items he shouldn't chew on and sleeps most of the day provided that he has a soft bed to lie on. He will also hang out in his crate with the door open/closed during the day or for nap time. He sleeps quietly through the night. Indy is good on a leash, responsive to recall and knows basic commands ... (Read More)including 'Go to bed'. Daniel adopted Indy from a shelter in Twin Falls, Idaho when Indy was about 6 months old. He was rescued running the streets of Twin Falls and most likely had poor initial socialization before he was found. Indy received four behavior training sessions in December 2015 and a behavior evaluation at UC Davis three weeks ago. He is fearful and can be aggressively protective at times. I can provide all evaluations and training materials. Indy is a herding breed or guardian breed mix and would do best in a home that has experience with these types of breeds and that understands the exercise, training, and socialization that these dogs require. He is extremely interested in cats/rabbits/squirrels and would do best in a one animal house. A quieter home with one or two people would be ideal for Indy, as he can be nervous around new people at first but once he warms up to you he will love you forever. Indy is up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and has had a recent physical exam. I will provide all veterinary records and vaccine certificates as well as leash, collar, harness, headcollar, kennel, dog bowls, food storage container, assorted toys and a familiar bed. I also have 6 months of flea medication and heartworm medication and 2-3 week's worth of food. Indy is looking for his own safe haven to call his forever home. He also lives for cuddles on the couch! He is a fantastic companion. For more information, please email Daniel at sheeter@gmail.com Indy is living in Redwood City. (Less)

Shatzi: 1 year old Border Collie mix, from Riverside County. Currently in Huntington Beach but will be making her way to Paso Robles if she doesn't get adopted first. She's little, 40lbs, Mcnab type BC. Obviously gorgeous girl! Came in very shy, scared, had not been on a leash ever, allowed Raeanne to put a collar and leash on her, and then they moved very slowly, Next morning she even walked a little way before panicking. Smart girl but needs someone understanding and patient to show her the ropes. No aggression at all, just very shy. Likes to be brushed. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Riverside shelter pegged Tucker as 2 years old but seems more like 1 year to 1 year and half. 50lbs. He was abandoned on a property. Found him tied up in the back when someone started cleaning the property out. Obviously he's a mix, and he really looks like the smallest Swiss Mountain Dog (Entlebucher Mountain Dog). Maybe mountain Dog and Border Collie... we see many of them. He was shy initially, is very sweet, allowed Raeanne to put a collar and leash on him easily, and walking really well on the leash, already housetrained and crate trained. Listens really well. He has a broken lower canine. But overall, very nice guy! He's ... (Read More)currently in Huntington Beach but will be making his way to Paso Robles soon - if he's here that long! Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Brimley has been a best friend to me for 10 years. I have had him since he was a tiny 6 week old puppy. We have had many adventures together exploring and hiking. He really is a great companion. My life has now greatly changed since the birth of my twins. We have done everything to include Brimley into our pack since the day we brought the twins home from the hospital but three months later he is showing signs of aggression toward the babies. This is what I was afraid of as I hear this can be a common behavior with these types of dogs. I am looking for a new home for Brimley and will be very sad to say goodbye to him but I also feel he will ... (Read More)be happier in a quieter environment without young ones around. I am grateful for the time I have had with him and feel he can be a great companion to someone else now. He is extremely healthy and still has a lot of life left in him. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Nora is a 7 month old Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Pitt mix. She is playful and loves cuddling. She is also a rescue and needs help getting socialized. Nora was abused as a young puppy and neglected. When she is scared she barks very fiercely. This is something that is getting better with the small amount of training I have been able to give her, but she needs someone who can dedicate more training and time to her. She also chases cars. Nora loves to play and get plenty of exercise. Nora is a truly wonderful puppy, and will become a wonderful dog if she can get the right attention. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-29-00325Shelly (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Shelly was adopted from Castaic Animal Shelter at 10 months old, a little over 1 year ago by loving parents. Since the adoption we have found out some great things about Shelly: she is a cuddle bug, loves to be pet and cuddled with, she sits before her treats, she is now kennel trained, she is house/potty trained, she is great about letting you know when she needs to go to the bathroom, she will stand by the door to indicate that she needs to be let out, she loves to play fetch with her Kong squeaker ball, she loves grass and going on walks, she has been a wonderful addition to our lives. We have also learned little triggers that Shelly ... (Read More)has based on her life before adoption: she does not like walking past other dogs, she is protective of her parents, she has snapped at other dogs at the dog park sometimes just because she is tired, she sometimes gets a little protective of her chew bone, she does not liked to be cornered, so vet trips are not existent unless she is sedated When she is comfortable, Shelly is absolutely the sweetest girl in the world. We have tried really hard to teach her trust and love and patience. She has improved remarkably since adopting her. We are trying to re-home Shelly because we are unaware of her tolerance of the new addition to the family (a baby). She has snapped at my 5 year old nephew before and would not want to chance it with a newborn. She should be the only dog in the household, she needs regular walks because of her active breed and again, she is a cuddle bug and loves to spend time with those she knows (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-22-00095Addy (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Addy is one year old. And always a loved dog. She's not been in the shelter. Her owner is very ill and has no way to care for or insure her future. Addy appears to be a young McNab and Pharoah Hound mix. She is tall, with a long neck. Very regal and agile! Addy can leap vertically in the air, and does it to chase butterflies, but, she has never even tried to jump my 5 ft fence. Addy is fantastic with people, very friendly and outgoing. And loves to play with other dogs. I heard she will chase cats though. But she loves the pack life. Addy has become a great swimmer and loves the water. She will bring me back sticks I throw in the water. ... (Read More)She's a lot of fun! Really cute video shows how she drinks from a spigot. She is smart! Addy is great off leash and comes to my metal coaches whistle. She can be very independent. And it was challenging at times, to get her in the van if she didn't think she was ready to go! But now, it's very routine, and she leaps by me into the van and we're off without having to touch anyone. Addy actually has a come a long way riding in a vehicle, she hated it when she first got here. No experience. And she's an old hand at it now! She is good on a leash. She's a prancer, very graceful and elegant when she walks. Head up high, easy to walk, she's so tall. She knows how to use the dog door, and she seems pretty good in the house... although she gathered both of my slippers together in her dog bed asap! So I would watch that. Again, Addy was afraid of car rides when she arrived. She wouldn't even climb out of her transport vehicle when I first met her, had to lift her out. She is doing fine in my van now, jumps in and out. Addy is a well balanced girl. She's not herding dogs or people, she just loves to play, I mean LOVES to play. She will be kept busy with a hose and hard spray, she loves it. But it makes it hard to fill the waterers! She dances around when I have the water on. In the creek, she wasn't too sure of herself at first, but next thing I knew, she was bouncing and jumping and splashing like a maniac, she had so much fun! I think she was diving for things she saw at the bottom of the clear creek. And didn't understand this crazy stuff she dunked her muzzle in to get whatever it was she just had to get. The pack walks are awesome, she sleeps like a baby rock when we get home. I looked on the floor of the van on the way back, wish I could have taken a photo... she and Abbot were on the floor of the van looking like jigsaw puzzle pieces, locked together asleep. It was adorable. She gets downright cozy with other dogs. Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Meet Fonzy Bear! This friendly guy is a darling mutt who is most likely a Great Dane/Border Collie cross but...your guess is as good as ours! We are ideally looking to place this giant goofball in a rural area so he has tons of space to run and play. He tends to get overexcited when meeting new dogs-that paired with his size makes him not quite built for dog-park life. That being said, he loves other dogs and with a proper introduction, he does totally fine with most dogs! He loves to romp, play and go on hikes with his doggy pack but ultimately we envision this guy on a large plot of land with a doggy best friend to explore and play ... (Read More)with. He loves people and is all wiggle and cuddles but definitely bonds closely with his humans. When new people enter the home, he does alert but is quick to warm up. He is a smart dog who is food motivated and loves to learn! His current foster mom reports that he is as an easy-going dog in the house and has good manners. He is great at play fetch, has basic commands, is fully house trained and has no issues being left for hours at a time. He is good with children but due to his size/strength, we are looking to place him in a family with kids 12 and older. If you're looking to add a country bumpkin to your home who has a million dollar smile, is addicted to belly rubs and has goof-ball personality, Bear is your boy! He is an awesome copilot and fun to have around. His foster mom said she would keep him in a second if she could! He is adoptable through the Milo Foundation in Point Richmond. www.milofoundation.org (Less)

UPDATE: This boy must go to an 'active' home. A walk once a day won't be enough. He must be engaged in some type of work, obedience, rally, flyball, 2 mile runs 5 days a week, etc. We have rescued him from a situation where he was frustrated from lack of proper engagement. We won't put him back in the same situation. It's just not fair. Thank you. This is a 12-14 month old male Border Collie, neutered, approximately 50-60lbs. This darling boy has over 20 tricks he can perform, obedience work, but definitely a high drive dog that needs to work. We are looking for an active household that can keep this boy engaged. His prior home ... (Read More)simply was not a match and Andy would act out with his owner. Trainer is happy to discuss Andy's behavior and what would work best for him. She has trained this boy from puppyhood. Currently in foster with his trainer. There are two other males around 6 years old who will be needing homes as well. One has service dog training, the other a lovely tricolor male who is being retired from the show ring. (Less)

Kylo is a sweet laid back boy, but always ready to play with the other pups. Would do best having a dog friend show him the ropes in life. Weights 23lbs and 16 inches from the floor to the top of her shoulder. almost 6 months old. Adoption fee is $186 includes neuter, micro chip, 3 shots, kennel cough vac and rabies. In general, we will not adopt a puppy or kitten to a family with a young child in the home. Not only could it be physically dangerous for the animal, but also for the child.     IMPORTANT NOTE: This is being posted as a courtesy for the people who currently have Arya. For more information or questions, please contact Nalyne at (925) 456-4879, or email nalyne@mac.com Adoption range - Alameda, Marin, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma County only. Arya is a 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix, with a moderate to high energy level, and weighs 43 lbs. Arya is a great youngster who has many wonderful characteristics and charm. Arya does well in doggie daycare and kennel-free boarding with other dogs. She loves to be with her people and is very gentle with children. She is potty trained, ... (Read More)stays off furniture, rides nicely in cars, uses a doggie door, is well behaved when dining outdoors, and loves watching TV, especially Sesame Street and Bolt. She has the potential to be a great companion for those who are willing to invest the time and resources to raise her properly. She requires someone who can provide love, structure and positive reinforcement training. She is doing well in her basic obedience and Nose Works. She would make a great agility dog. She is in foster care with 2 elderly Belgium Shepherds. She has too much puppy energy for one of them, who is a special needs dog. We love Arya dearly as she is a sweet, loving, and gentle natured pup. We want to give her the chance to find a home that can shower her with love and the activities that she needs to be happy and balanced. She is reactive to cats when walking on leash. She is good with and plays appropriately with other dogs, but she is not comfortable at dog parks. She has been bitten by rowdy dogs in dog parks. Off leash dog friendly trails like Fort Funston and Regional Park trails have been better options. Her recall is still a work in progress which needs to be worked on by her new parent(s). Arya is a joy to be with, but she is NOT a turn-key dog. She has textbook Australian Cattle Dog characteristics of being super smart, very athletic, and sometimes has a mind of her own. She wants to be your companion and partner, and needs to have her brain occupied throughout much of the day. For this reason, she would do best with people who work from home or can otherwise have her with them much of the day. Arya is looking for a forever home that will provide structure, training, dedication and love for a much deserving soul who will be totally devoted to her people. Arya's ideal home would be with people who have an active lifestyle and like to explore nature and the outdoors. Arya is spayed, microchipped, on Simparica and Heartgard. She is up to date on all vaccinations. Her adoption fee is $300 (Will be donated to HITTGV). If you are interested in meeting Arya, please first complete the HITTGV adoption form, by going to hittgv.org and click on the Adopt button near the top of the page, to find the online Adoption Form.     Talk about a total gem. This is Brandy. She is a 11 year old Border Collie/Cattledog mix who needed a helping hand out of a shelter. She weighs a petite 25 pounds. Her person passed away and she kept vigil until she was dropped at a shelter. Now, she is looking to give that same amazing devotion to a new family. Brandy is a very pretty girl and she is a very nice girl. She is very devoted and is looking to make a special bond with someone. She appreciates getting lots of attention. She is a friendly girl and is ready to go anywhere her person goes, including out to lunch! Currently she is a fan of hanging out at Starbuck's with her foster ... (Read More)mom. She is polite in the car and is ready to go for a ride. Don't let her age fool you. This breed stays vibrant for a long time. She is plenty of dog to be a wonderful companion. She loves a good walk a few times a day and pulls on the leash since she is having such a good time. She is walking for 30 minutes a few times a day at the moment. Brandy is lovely with others. She is nice with other dogs and even good with cats. She is also polite in the house and is house trained. She will sit when asked, too. Brandi has received a clean bill of health and is in lovely shape. Brandi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. She is ready for her forever home in SoCal. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-28-00430Nettie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie knows to go to her crate for bed-time. She also knows sit. She is house trained and appreciates a ... (Read More)schedule that allows her to go out a bit more frequently than some other dogs. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. With regular medication and comfort in her environment, Nettie's seizures have been under control. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She would also like a home where she can be on the furniture, since she does like to act like a mountain goat from time to time. With a face like that, who minds? Nettie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is ready to meet potential adoptive homes in SoCal. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00427GRACE (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace is an extremely smart, loving, and athletic 2-3 year old, cattle dog and border collie mix with a real desire to work. She weighs 38 lbs., and is a moderate energy girl.%A0Grace is shy at first; but once you gain her trust, she is extremely affectionate and will dive into your arms, kiss your face, and then tuck her head under your chin and paw at you for more love. Being close to and loved by her person, is what Grace wants more than anything else. She doesn't play with most toys, but does enjoy playing tug of war with a rope toy.%A0Tug can be used a training reward and a way to build a special bond with her person. %A0 Grace's ... (Read More)fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, eager to please, and a fast learner, who loves her training sessions. She loves to trick-train and knows approximately 30 cues.%A0Some of her favorites include: rebounding off of walls, jumping over hurdles, spinning, and performing a figure-8 around her handler's legs.%A0She usually learns tricks within 10 repetitions, at which point, a hand signal can be introduced.%A0Within a few training sessions, the trick can be put on a verbal cue.%A0 Grace was given a herding aptitude test. The trainer said that with a patient handler, she could definitely be a good working herder. Grace loves to climb and balance on objects.%A0 %A0 When Grace's foster family first found her, she was very fearful. For the first few weeks, she army crawled throughout their house because she was afraid of the ceiling (it was likely her first time being inside).%A0She would freeze and then react if she saw a stranger (person or dog) over 400 ft. away.%A0She could not be in the same room with other dogs, and would even bark/react to dogs through a baby gate.%A0 %A0 In the few months that she has spent with her fosters, she has progressed a great deal. On leashed walks, she is able to walk within 30 ft. of other dogs and 15 ft. of strange humans, and still remain focused on her handler. If another dog barks at her, especially from behind a fence/barrier she will definitely bark back. She is alarmed by quick movements and wants to chase. She also reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. With more rewards based training, she can learn to remain calm during these types of distractions. %A0 Grace is basically a submissive dog, who has only started learning how to live with other creatures in the past few months. She is continuing to improve, but still has some issues being around other dogs, especially when the dogs are moving. She can be in the same room with other dogs, but she tries to herd them if they move around too much. For this reason, she would do best in a home with no other dogs, or a much older dog, or a home where she could be kept separate from other dogs for a while in order to provide a slow introduction. During most of the day, she is in the house, where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house. When Grace isn't training or loving her people, she hangs out quietly in her crate. She is always crated while her fosters are away. Her crate is her safe space, and should be a part of her forever home.%A0Because Grace is a world-class athlete, she cannot be left unattended in a backyard. She could easily climb over (or dig under) a 6 ft. fence. Grace is completely housebroken. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. Grace is usually a very quiet girl, who just wants to hang out with her people and work with them. The only times can be a bit barky is when she is working on new tricks, and when her people leave her.%A0She will bark for a few minutes when her people leave, but quickly quiets down. We believe that Grace would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. Grace is NOT recommended for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. Since Grace is just now learning to meet people without panicking, we do not recommend her for a home with children, who can make sudden unpredictable moves.%A0 In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, with incredible potential, who has had some extreme unknown trauma in her past. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Her ideal forever home should provide plenty of time for her to bond with her person. She needs TLC, patience, reassurance, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things. Quiet country life would be best. Busy neighborhoods/urban living/dog parks are NOT for her.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Grace, please first complete our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Go to the Adopt button near the top of the page, and scroll down for the online form. (Less)

We have since had the mass tested (it was non-malignant) and removed, as well as 2 small low grade mast cell tumors. He is now happy, healthy, and doing great, and looking for his own family!     Meet Hank, a handsome, 7 year old Cattledog mix. He is a fun, active guy looking for a home where he can be an active partner. For those who know this breed, you will know that this is an ideal age. He is full of action but has none of the puppy craziness that lasts in Cattledogs for the first few years. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in California
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
