Rescue Me ID: 17-09-22-00100Blitzen (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Blitzen is a male puppy currently fostered in Tampa, FL (Hillsborough County). He was born December 16, 2016. Blitzen is playful and affectionate. He may be cautious with new people and unfamiliar environments, but he is a loving, active puppy. He loves his baby pool, likes to chase a tennis ball (although he's still learning to bring it back!), and enjoys playing with his foster mom's other dogs. He is appropriate in his play with other dogs, although as a big, goofy puppy he can be a little too enthusiastic for dogs that do not enjoy the company of big puppies. His mother is a smooth coat border collie mix and father is unknown, but from ... (Read More)the 'lab mix' look of the puppies, it looks like he may have been a lab or lab mix. One of Blitzen's littermates received DNA results indicating a mix of border collie, American Staffordshire terrier, Shetland sheepdog (sheltie), chow, and retriever mix. Blitzen will probably be 40 to 50 pounds when full grown. His mom was pregnant when she was pulled from a shelter, and 10 healthy puppies were born in the foster home. Blitzen should do well with older children (approximately 10 years old and older) and other dogs. He has not been tested with cats or young children. He is friendly but large and enthusiastic. Blitzen is housebroken, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, and microchipped. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Harvey is fostered in Port Charlotte, FL (Charlotte County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Harvey is a 9-month-old border collie mix who will be large when fully grown, as he is already big. He has performance potential but would make a good dog for an active person or family as well. He has average energy for his breed, and has about an average temperament. He walks very nicely on leash and is housebroken and crate trained. He will require a home with a fenced yard of at least 5 feet as he is a car chaser. He is available for meet-and-greets near Port Charlotte or in St. Pete, FL (Pinellas County). Harvey is ... Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Introducing Paisley! This beautiful, young, probable mix of border collie and spaniel is even tempered and playful. Paisley is young, estimating her age at around 6 months old based on her teeth. Paisley enjoys the company of other young dogs who respect her space and don't try to nip at her. She will give chase to a cat so a home with a cat may not be the best for her, unless the resident cat is dog savvy. Paisley enjoys spending time with her humans and loves to cuddle. She is reliably housetrained, but accidents may occur while she adjusts to a new home. Paisley is healthy and will be spayed shortly. She is about 33 pounds ... Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Emit is a gentle, submissive and obedient little fella. He is easy to train and enjoys being with his people. SouthBARK is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working hard to rescue unwanted dogs from kill shelters and the streets along the Gulf Coast of Northwest Florida and South Alabama. Because we do not have a facility and we are all volunteers, all monies raised can go directly to where it is needed most- the dogs' care. From intake through adoption, all SouthBARK dogs and puppies are seen by one of our preferred veterinarians for dewormings, vaccinations, diagnostic testing, medical treatments, microchips and spay/neuter. While we ... (Read More)understand there are ways to do things cheaper, it is our desire to provide excellent medical care to our rescued animals. The adoption fee is $200 for adults and $250 for puppies under 6 months. All cats and kittens are $75. All cats, dogs and puppies are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and are spayed/neuteted. http://form.jotform.us/form/50296064689163? Part of that process is a veterinary reference check. All dogs and cats in the household must be up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and dogs must be on heartworm prevention . If you do not have a pet and thus have no veterinarian, please list a personal reference who does not live with you. Once the vet reference check is complete, we will make contact with you to discuss the rest of the adoption process which will include a home visit where a team member will meet each member of the family and check your home and yard for safety and security purposes. Our adoption fee is $200 for adults and $250 for puppies under 6 months, which includes spay/neuter, microchip, shots up to what is appropriate for age, and treatment for any medical condition or injury preventing adoption. Loves all people, he's a jumpy dog so I don't suggest young toddlers. He Needs an active family! Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Allie is fostered along with her sister Bess in Parrish, FL (Manatee County). Allie is an about 7-year-old girl of 22.5 lbs. The vet thinks she and her sister are border collie mixes, possibly with Australian cattle dog. They are lowriders and quite petite. Allie is a cuddly little girl who loves to be near her human as much as possible and is glued to her sister Bess's side at all times. She has herding drive and will herd kids and other dogs. She is content to sit on your lap (or in your seat if you get up) but also loves to run around and play with the other dogs. She loves to play catch and tug as well as search for toys, but can become ... (Read More)snarky with her sister and the other dogs in her foster home if she doesn't get the ball enough. Her foster family limits ball play to just a few minutes each time. She does get a bit whiny when her human leaves the room, but her foster family is working on reassurance. Allie knows her basic commands (sit, stay, potty, up, down, crate, eat), but forgets them quickly if there is a lizard in sight. Allie does well with the two larger female cur mixes in her foster home. She is learning to share her humans and not be such an attention hog. She has been introduced on leash to goats, horses and ponies. She was curious, sniffed and followed them with no aggression, and within a couple minutes of each visit was bored and back to chasing after lizards. She warms up to kids quickly and would do fine with them. She also seems to do fine around cats. Her foster family envisions an active home for her where she can go out on the town, hiking, exploring etc. She does well with elderly folks and does not jump up. She does well on leash in public places. Her foster mom says it is obvious someone loved these girls very much and put in the time to work with them. Allie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, heartworm negative and microchipped. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bess is fostered along with her sister Allie in Parrish, FL (Manatee County). Bess is an about 7-year-old girl of 24.5 lbs. The vet thinks she and her sister are border collie mixes, possibly with Australian cattle dog. They are low riders and quite petite. Bess is very cuddly and prefers to sit on you rather than next to you. Her foster family is working on teaching boundaries. She loves to be near her human or any human as much as possible and is glued to her sister Allie's side at all times. She is content to sit on your lap or near you while she naps and snores. She also loves to run around and play with the other dogs but is just as ... (Read More)happy to sit and watch them run around. She enjoys playing catch and tug as well as search for toys and is usually the first to catch or find the toy. Her foster family has to limit ball play in case things get too heated between the sisters. Bess isn't whiny when her human leaves the room, but she will follow you and wait for you to come back. She knows her basic commands (sit, stay, potty, up, down, crate, eat) and is quick to comply, but all bets are off if there is a lizard in sight. She does well with the two larger female cur mixes in her foster home - in the evening you can find the three of them curled up together on the rug. She has been introduced on leash to goats, horses and ponies. She wasn't as curious as her sister, just sat and looked at them. Upon evaluation with children she seems quite frightened by kids in the 7-8 year range, so we are recommending no one under the age of 12 for her forever home. She gets stressed around cats so we do not recommend them for her home. She does well with elderly folks and does not jump up on them. She does well on leash in public places. Her foster mom says it is obvious someone loved these girls very much and put in the time to work with them. Bess is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, heartworm negative and microchipped. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Saavik is fostered in Bradenton, FL (Manatee County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters. Saavik is a Vulcan wonder pup of about 6-7 months of age. She is 26.5 lbs and said to be a smooth border collie mix - at first we thought she was a border x whippet, but we recently came across an Ibizan hound she STRONGLY resembles. She will probably be around 45 lbs when fully grown and filled out. Please do not inquire if you are looking for a traditional family dog or a service dog, and please read her bio before inquiring. This dog is built to play, learn and perform. She is engaged and eager to please. She has great toy, ... (Read More)ball and tug drive. She is learning to retrieve disc rollers. She has an affinity for water and we will be evaluating her for dock diving this weekend. She needs a home that will keep her busy or she will drive you up the wall. Running around a backyard or going for daily walks will not be enough for this dog. She needs to be learning, moving, thinking and working. We would like to see her go to a home with dog sports experience, though active homes without it will be considered. Saavik has been cat-tested and does tend to herd them, so we would suggest no cats for her home, and older kids only as she is gangly and high energy, and could knock little ones over. We would certainly make exceptions for dog trainers with kids who know how to handle dogs like this, as she has no qualms around kids. Saavik is extremely affectionate and quite cuddly when she does settle down. She rides well in a car and we are working on leash walking. The bottom line is she is a dog with great potential and we will not adopt her to an average pet home. We have several dogs in our rescue who would be suitable for that. Saavik is driven, energetic, biddable and fun. She absolutely needs an active home with someone who will work with her every day. Saavik is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on all age-appropriate vaccines and preventives. She is mostly housebroken and totally crate trained. (Less)

Max is an all-around good guy - smart, sweet, and kind to all creatures and people. He is shy at first. He can jump very high and has nice energy, but not over-the-top. Max is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, and heartworm negative. This guy is ready for his forever home!

Jake is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Jake is currently fostered in Morriston, FL (Levy County). Jake is a 45 lb, about 2-year-old border collie mix. He has two blue eyes! He wandered onto his foster mom's property in late 2015 and she has taken great care of him. We feel he is kind of bored living on the farm with his foster mom stretched thin working, caring for other dogs and livestock, and that he deserves a chance at a home where he will get more one-on-one attention and ideally be able to participate in dog sports classes. He would love to go lure coursing or agility. ... (Read More)Jake is very sweet and loving with people. He is not kid-tested, but we do not anticipate issues. He does great with other dogs and is on the submissive side. Jake is neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives. (Less)

June is fostered in Miramar, FL (Broward County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! June is a sweet girl of around 6 months old. She will need a companion animal in her new home. She is still unsure of the world and people in it. She loves kids and welcomes human snuggles. She will be shy at first when she is adopted, and her adopter should be patient and soft until she learns to trust. She is hand shy and will need positive reinforcement. June loves to play tug, with tennis balls and to chew antlers. She loves wrestling with other pups. She is kid- and cat-tested and approved. June will not be adopted to an ... Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Billy and Sally were pulled from a hoarding situation in Texas and went into boarding to await a rescue to come get them. Unfortunately that rescue backed out and Billy and Sally, who were simply named Two and Three at the time, stayed in boarding a lot longer than they should have. ASF stepped up, and now they live in Crestview, Florida, where they are learning to trust people and be the good dogs they could have been all along. Because the boarding facility did very little handling and interaction with them, Billy and Sally were terrified of everything when they came into our home. After living here for several months, they have come a ... (Read More)long way, but still need some help that would be best provided in a home with a family that can provide them one-on-one interaction. Since living here, they've learned to love going for off-leash walks and runs. They have good recall and will come back into the yard with everyone else. They love to play with each other and with other dogs. They are bonded but no longer co-dependent. We would love to have these two rehomed together. It would just be fun! They'll lick our hands and sometimes the backs of our legs when we're not looking. They smile at us, and wag their tails. They get excited and happy when we come home. They are very happy here and probably would have no problems living the rest of their lives this way, but I am hoping a family out there is willing to take them in and continue their 'lessons' where they aren't part of a huge group of dogs, as they are here. Billy and Sally are about a year old (as of May 2017) and only weigh 30 pounds or so. They are likely mini-Aussies or maybe very, very small Border Collies. I would love to talk to anyone who is interested in helping these dogs move forward. I can explain more about their background, what we have done with them, and what more needs to be done. It's a project that would pay off in a big way because even just getting them to this point has been a very uplifting experience for us. Someone out there surely would love to bring these little cuties into their lives! If you think that Billy and Sally would fit your home please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application. Their adoption fee is $400 and is for both dogs as we would like to keep them together (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Florida
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
