Rescue Me ID: 17-05-12-00145Dash (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dash needs a long term foster (or adopter) NOW. He was saved from death row almost a week ago and there has been no interest at all from anyone. His emergency short-term foster can't keep him and he needs a home by the weekend. Dash is 10 years old and very sweet. He still has energy for a senior and does have some separation anxiety issues so someone home often is ideal. He's a bit too interested in kitties. He is fully vetted and healthy and currently located in Champaign area but can likely be transported. PLEASE consider adding Dash to your home as this is urgent. He was already dumped once by his family who had him since a puppy and ... (Read More)I refuse to let him become homeless again. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-25-00285Shadow (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

*CHICAGO HEIGHTS* This gorgeous girl is Shadow, a 5 year old Retriever/Border Collie mix that was surrendered by her family an entire YEAR ago and has been stuck at a shelter ever since. She is very, very sweet and surprisingly very active for her size! She behaves nicely on a leash and has gotten so much better with her manners. In her last home, she became protective of the male owner. We would recommend she go to a quiet household with people who understand that she will need to be kept well socialized to avoid any more guarding issues. Many dogs with similar issues do better once they have structure and training. Due to her tendency to ... (Read More)guard people/toys/food, we would recommend that she be the only dog in the household. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00275Sheena (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Blind, Malnourished

Sheena is a 15-year-old, very frail and thin, female black and white shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian as a hospice situation. This senior lady was dropped off at Chicago Animal Control with a younger Dachshund sibling. They were separated when a rescue took the Dachshund but not the senior shepherd. Luckily Sheena was taken in by the Famous Fido Rescue. She has proven to be just fine with other dogs as well as cats. Poor Sheena has had two bouts of pancreatitis since she's arrived in rescue. Rescue staff and volunteers have nursed her back from each illness and now she eats mostly boiled chicken and rice, although she also loves ... (Read More)cheese. Her arthritis slows her down. She is visually impaired and easily startled so she may bite if surprised or frightened, so she's best in a home with tolerant dog-lovers without children. Border Collie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rock is a playful, intense and intelligent, 11 or 12-year-old, male Border Collie looking for a loving guardian. Rock came into rescue with his ribs showing due to neglect. His front left leg bows but we don't know if he was born that way or whether it broke and healed like that on its own. In either case, it doesn't appear to bother him. Rock lives to be loved ad play ball. He's fine with other dogs, but has his limits '| he'll snap when he's had enough. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued dogs of Famous Fido Rescue. He is a healthy senior, up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped. To meet and possibly adopt ... Animal ID: 37Sable (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

CHECK OUT THIS BEAUTIFUL GIRL!!! Sable is a very unusually colored dog. She is quite beautiful. The best way to describe her is a border collie with a sable shepherd coat. She showed up at a farm for a few months and once the horses were moved she started wandering so the farm owners sent her to the pound. Sweet Sable gets along well with other dogs and cats. She also reportedly gets along fine with children and horses. She is a very high energy dog and will need a large FENCED yard to run. We would love it if she also had a friend to play with in her new yard. We think she would be the perfect candidate for agility training! Although Sable ... (Read More)is heartworm positive she will soon be done with her heartworm treatment and ready to go to her forever home. If you are interested in Sable, be sure to email Christine@Howlin4help.com to request an application. Sable is approximately 2 years old. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-20-00507Minnie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

DOB 3/1/15 After seeing Minnie's shelter picture, we knew she needed out ASAP! She was so thin at only 25 lbs, and now after a lot of TLC from her foster, she is 40 lbs. Upon arriving on transport, she greeted everyone with tail wagging and kisses, she knew she was now safe. We think she might be Border Collie/Pit mix and about 1 yr old. After arriving at her foster home, she got to learn what being a puppy was all about, learning how to play and what a dog toy is. She has blossomed into a beautiful, happy, affectionate, active pup, who loves to go on walks. Minnie is not a fan of the crate, but doesn't need one since she does great ... (Read More)without one. Cuddling up with her foster family at bed time, is one of her favorite things. Since she was an outside dog, she had to learn about housebreaking. She enjoys, is playful with and friendly with other dogs. Now that she has been shown what life should be like, she is looking for her forever family to continue showing her what love is. If interested in meeting Minnie or for more information please go to www.alwaysroom4morepaws.com to read about our adoption process. Here you will also find the application to fill out and send back. *Breed and age are a guess. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Illinois
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
