|Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00535Sammy (male)|
All Sammy wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for him forever! Sammy was picked up as a stay in very bad condition and going to be put down the next day due to being older and how bad he looked. He was a skinny 38 pounds, covered in fleas, had almost no coat, is missing part of his ear and the end of his tail, and was not wanting to eat just cowering in the kennel terrified of all the loud sounds at the shelter. He is shy of strangers, better in a home quite home not because he's bad but because he would want to hide if it were very noisy or had lots of people coming and going. He adjusted to being here very quickly once he knew we weren't going to hurt him. He didn't have any trouble with being put with any of the dogs even tiny dogs. He was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great with whatever was asked of him as long as we were slow and gave him time to adjust. He loves to be pet, but won't come up to you if your an intimidating type of person. I believe he has had a really rough past and all he wants to do is stay away from anything negative. He has never acted out in anyway simply melts even if your doing something like trimming his nails or giving him a bath. He is a very, very sweet dog and one of my favorites. Sammy is current on vaccinations, neutered, was treated for heartwroms and is microchipped. He is on heartworm preventative. He's good with any dogs but will lay by and guard the food bowl. He was so starved when we got him he was eating anything, (like shingles off the dog house, a stack of drywall and dirt. Now that he is chubby and knows theres food, plus no doubt is past any deficiencies which can cause pika he never eats anything strange. He is not at all destructive with his blankets and loves a soft place to lay. He really doesn't know any commands but he does come when called and he would love to learn there are other great people out there who won't hurt him besides us. He is guessed to be 6 to 8 years old and weighs a chubby 61 pounds now. He never potties in his indoor kennel but I don't know if he's housebroken. Sammy is a lovely quiet and sweet boy who deserves a wonderful home and not to spend the rest of his life in a kennel. Adoption fee is negotiable to the right home. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)

|Animal ID: 2858Izzy (female)|
zzy' is a social, energetic, beautiful puppy, who loves to play and be loved on. She is good with the other dogs that like to play hard and then crash and rest. She is ok with the cats in her foster home, but would be best without them as she is a bit too inquisitive towards them. She is 6 mos. of age, born 06-06-2014, and weighs 35 to 38 #'s. She is doing great with house training, as long as you let her out often. A basic companion dog class is highly recommended, as Izzy is an intelligent and eager to earn girl. She will be your BFF at class and also learn what is expected of her. Izzy would be an awesome agility dog and this would keep her mentally and physically stimulated. HELP will also reimburse $50.00 of your class fee if you complete a class within 4 mos. of adoption. A fenced in yard to run and play in, plus a family where someone is home more than not is best for Izzy. Since she has a bit of herding breed in her children over 5 is requested. Izzy is crate trained, sleeps all night quietly in her foster mom's room, and is really a sweet loving girl. She is gentle with people, and likes everyone she has met. Walks are a favorite of hers, and she is enjoying the experience of seeing new things. Izzy has learned sit, come, 'no', and drop already, and is working on responding quicker too. After all, she is still a puppy! She would love a family that loves her and will give her a 4-Ever home this Christmas season! Woof! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 14-08-31-00529Hobbes (male)|
Hobbes is an extremely sweet, high-energy, cuddly and loving, 29-pound, 18-month-old, male Rat Terrier/Border Collie-Mix looking for a loving guardian. When you first meet adorable little Hobbes, you hear a growl and you take a step back. He does the same thing to dogs when he first meets them. The funny thing is, he really loves everyone. He is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone. Sadly, he was found stray in the Englewood neighborhood where children were beating him with sticks. Police officers intervened and brought the dog to Chicago Animal Care and Control. When his original family neglected to claim him, he was transferred to Rain Dog Rescue. Despite this horrible start in life, Hobbes is a social creature and loves playing with other dogs and getting human affection. Hobbes is looking for a loving and active dog-loving home with a canine sibling to play with. Hobbes does well at the dog park - enjoying not only all the dogs, but people too! Hobbes loves going on long walks and is currently working with a trainer to become less reactive on leash. He is housebroken, crate-trained and knows the commands sit, stay and down and takes treats gently from your fingers. Hobbes is very healthy, de-wormed, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly heartworm preventative. His adoption fee of $200 benefits Raindog Rescue. To meet and possibly adopt Hobbes, please fill out an adoption application at http://raindogrescue.org/application and follow up by contacting Raindog Rescue at email@example.com or 773-770-5115. |Rescue Me ID: 14-08-11-00578Buddy (male)|
Buddy was rescued with his mother and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. there was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father. Rocky looks like a longer coated shepherd collie mix and is black and tan. He is very sweet, and very shy with strangers. They came from a terrible situation. All 5 dogs rescued from the location are terrified of children and run and hide. He is very submissive with teens and adults. He loves attention but is still learning people won't hurt him at random. He has learned to walk on a leash fairly well, is crate trained. About 8 to 10 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. Mom is very submissive and super sweet, will also be available when spayed! microchipped and UTD vaccinations. He is great with a wide range of dogs and has no interest in cats. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption. |Rescue Me ID: 14-04-04-00549Honey (female)|
Honey is a very beautiful, sweet, energetic and fun six-year-old, 30-pound, female, blonde and white Border Collie-mix looking for a loving guardian. Honey is a friendly, wiggly, goofy puppy who is full of tail wags and kisses. She loves to play with other dogs and she's even good with the dog-friendly cats in her foster home. She does like to do a little herding of people, dogs and cats, in a fun way! And, she jumps up on people, so she needs some training and is probably best without young children in the home. Honey already knows how to sit on command and is doing great with her housebreaking and crate-training. She's is currently overcoming her fear of eliminating in front of people, so she's not accustomed to urinating on leash yet. Honey is healthy, spayed, micro-chipped and vaccinated for rabies, distemper and bordetella. To meet and possibly adopt her, please contact Ursula at Ursulaspets2u@aol.com or 312-315-9748. Her adoption fee of $250 benefits rescued pets. She is currently living in a foster home in Chicago. She is looking for a home with a fenced in yard with a secure six-foot high fence to keep her safe. (Less)

|PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Illinois|
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
