Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic)

Dex is 8 months old and his mange is almost completely cleared up. He is fun-loving and will make a great dog for an active family. Dex was found dumped at the park. He was there two days in a row playing with the children and no one took him home. He was most likely dumped because he had demodectic mange on his face, which is easy enough to treat, but just took time to clear.

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-14-00533Bizzy (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bizzy is a fun, snugly, playful, and lovable, five-month-old, 21-pound, black and white male Border Collie/Lab-mix looking for a loving guardian. Bizzy has two speeds '| calm, snugly and sleepy, and fun and zoomy when he plays with other dogs! Since I've been fostering him, he spends his day snuggling against my leg while I work on the computer, chewing his bones and Himalayan chews, or bouncing around the yard with my other dogs. Bizzy makes a bit of noise at times when initially crated, so he might not be the best companion for someone in an apartment or condo with easily annoyed neighbors. But he eventually calms down. He is all ... (Read More)puppy and while doing beautifully with his housebreaking, he has the occasional accident if he doesn't go outside often enough. He also tends to counter-surf, or finds something fun to chew on like my shoes or notebook. At night, Bizzy sleeps the whole night through cuddled in bed with the rest of the pack. He is fabulous with dogs who are tolerant of puppies, and fine with cats - perhaps a little fearful of them, as he should be. Bizzy was originally turned in as part of an unwanted litter of puppies in rural Jackson County, Illinois. He's an amazingly happy, sweet and well-socialized boy who already knows to sit for a treat and walks nicely on leash. With a little patience, training, daily exercise and love, he will make a fabulous companion. Bizzy is healthy, de-wormed, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and micro-chipped. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact me directly at sheri@petraits.com or 773-777-2891. He is being fostered in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. His adoption fee of $300 benefits rescued pets. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-11-00652Chewy (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chewy is super cute and housebroken. He was picked up at large three times and his owners have not come to get him this third time. We've waited well past the seven days and have left messages where he is. We can only assume they aren't going to come get him this time. As full as the shelter is, we need to find a new home for Chewy. He is heartworm negative and ready to get neutered and into his new home. We plan to get him neutered Friday, but his adopter could get him before then with an approved application and take him to that neuter appointment.

Please email for photo the photo uploading tool for the website is not working, or our internet isn't. This girl was in a very high kill animal shelter and was going to be put down due to space. She appears to be a collie, golden, shepherd mix and is gold with a black saddle and long collie coat. She learned to walk on a leash in a couple days, smart and willing to please, although still gets very excited and pulls on the leash some. She acted like she had never been in a crate or on a leash before, now she is great at both. Crate trained, spayed, heart worm negative and current on vaccinations. Now that she is with us she has become quite a friendly little girl, although just a bit shy, but oh, so sweet! We love her here and want her to go to the perfect family. She seems to know she was rescued and is now waiting for 'her' family to come get her. Is that you?

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mom was rescued from a terrible situation, and was already expecting puppies when we got her. Her puppies have been adopted, she has been spayed and found to be heart worm positive. She has been on heartworm preventative since she has arrived with us. She seems to only be about 1.5 to at most 2 years old and this is probably her second litter of puppies. Sweetie looks like a collie shepherd mix, and has the personality of a sweet shy collie. Weighs about 40 pounds, is very submissive and sweet with people, scared of small children she runs and hides but has never acted defensive or aggressive just hides and even if cornered only hides her ... (Read More)face and holds very still no matter what happens. She is fine with cats that don't run, if they run she will chase them. She is quiet, housebroken, crate trained and walks well on a leash, microchipped and UTD vaccinations. A current or past vet you have used for pets phone number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. Rescue Me ID: 14-04-15-00376Nadia (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nadia appears to be a border collie mix and maybe black mouth cur? which is common in the area she is from. She has a smooth coat, is about 23 pounds and 4 months old. She was at a high kill shelter and had been adopted but returned to the shelter so her time was up even though she is just a puppy. She didn't know anything after spending so much time in the shelter, but she is crate crated and goes to the door when she needs out to potty. A particularly smart puppy! She learned to walk on the leash very quickly and learned to stop and wait immediately yet had obviously not been taught any limitations on anything. She was very skinny, even ... (Read More)though the shelter appears to feed them well. Due to feeling starved she was food aggressive with the other dogs, (not with people). She now gets all she wants to eat and is filling in nicely. She is now with several bigger dogs and has learned all kinds of normal dog manners. She needs an active home and firm leader to keep up with her training. She just loves to play with the same age puppies and older dogs. Maybe to rough for small dogs. Vet phone number to call for a reference, and contract required to adopt. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-04-00549Honey (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Honey is a very beautiful, sweet, energetic and fun six-year-old, 30-pound, female, blonde and white Border Collie-mix looking for a loving guardian. Honey is a friendly, wiggly, goofy puppy who is full of tail wags and kisses. She loves to play with other dogs and she's even good with the dog-friendly cats in her foster home. She does like to do a little herding of people, dogs and cats, in a fun way! And, she jumps up on people, so she needs some training and is probably best without young children in the home. Honey already knows how to sit on command and is doing great with her housebreaking and crate-training. She's is currently ... (Read More)overcoming her fear of eliminating in front of people, so she's not accustomed to urinating on leash yet. Honey is healthy, spayed, micro-chipped and vaccinated for rabies, distemper and bordetella. To meet and possibly adopt her, please contact Ursula at Ursulaspets2u@aol.com or 312-315-9748. Her adoption fee of $250 benefits rescued pets. She is currently living in a foster home in Chicago. She is looking for a home with a fenced in yard with a secure six-foot high fence to keep her safe. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-13-00108Sammy (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This dog is exceptionally intelligent! Sammy was at a high kill shelter and out of time. Weighs about 45 pounds, about 1 year old, just a big puppy, and is SO much more handsome in person! He's a very dark seal or blue and white, not actually a black and white dog. The volunteers begged us to take him in since he was one of their favorites from the week before and his adopter didn't show up on the only day to pull from that shelter so they held him over the next week to give him some extra time, and then his time was really up, we pulled Zeus and Sammy at the same time, both their favorite dogs. He is energetic when doing something. He ... (Read More)traveled great in the vehicle for a long distance to get here and to and from the vets, he loves people. He has been neutered, is heart worm negative, healthy, and UTD on all vaccinations. He is crate trained, and does excellent on a leash. I wish we had more time to spend with teaching him because he learned the basic pattern here in just days. Very smart and wants to please SO badly! He is athletic and would be perfect for an agility dog or maybe flyball or something like that, or jogging or playing with in the back yard. He can jump a normal height fence so going out with him to potty or using a 6 foot or covered kennel to potty in is needed. He does bark if just left outside in a kennel, but now quiets when told. He has come such a long way from when he first arrived! He is quiet in a crate, when with you or doing something. He looks like a working border collie, with pointer, or heeler mix. He acts like a border collie. He is now good with most other dogs. At first he just had no idea how to play with them. He is indifferent to cats that rub on him but will chase them if they run. Contract and vet reference required to adopt. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Illinois
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
