Rescue Me ID: 13-10-27-00180Banner (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Hip Dysplasia,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Banner is a beautiful and loving dog with a lot of potential. I am sure that in the hands of the right owner she will be a fabulous dog! Banner has a lot of energy. She loves to run, play fetch, swim, hike, roll around in anything, play tug, etc. Unfortunately, without proper outlets this energy manifests itself in a lot of nervous energy and severe separation anxiety. This fearful/anxious energy also means she has very poor social skills and trouble with other dogs. Banner is fairly dominant as well and this means she has trouble sharing toys with other dogs, or with children and she is protective of me. When toys are not involved, the ... (Read More)concern with Banner and kids is that she can be a bit of a bull in a china shop and plow through anything and everything when she has her focus on something. After 5 years of trying, it is just time to admit that Banner and I are not the right match for each other. Working full time, being out of the house sometimes 9-10 hours a day, and having an 8 month old that takes up all my time and attention now, I'm just not able to provide her with the exercise, calm-assertive leadership or consistency that she needs. I will miss my Banner-boo, but I know that if I can find the right setting it will be so much better for her. Please contact me if you are interested in a difficult, yet loving, 70+ pound lapdog with a ton of potential to be appropriately rehabilitated! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Iowa
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
