Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We would like you to meet Patriot's newest guest. This is Fluffy. She is almost a year old and we believe she may have some Border Collie in him. The person who surrendered her said she was a Siberian Husky but as you can clearly see that is not the case. She is an awesome little guy. VERY friendly. Just wants to play and be loved. Until today when she got to us she has never had any shots. She has also not been spayed yet but will be prior to going to her new home. She will also be micro-chipped. She has no experience with other animals according to her surrender form. She is reported to be housebroken. She was a house dog. It is reported ... (Read More)that she does not like being left alone but so often that is just training. It is reported by the prior owner that she will chase squirrels and cats. No history of getting one. She is not leash trained but we will start working on that and her first time out she did very well. The only command it appears she knows is sit. She needs a home that will truly love her and care for her. She is a little insecure but with TLC that will change. (Less)

I am Cowboy and I am at Patriot's for Pets - and not by choice. I will be 10 years old on October 31st and have lived my entire life with one owner. You see my dad died and my mom had to move into town and could not take me with her. I am registered with the American Border Collie Association and a copy of my registration and pedigree will go with me when I get adopted - if you really care about that kind of stuff. I am used to living on an acreage and sleeping inside at night. I am housebroken and don't cause any trouble. I am not fond of little kids as I don't like them messing with me and I will warn them if they get rough - I have ... (Read More)never bit anyone - but please don't make me live with little kids. I am great with men - I tolerate women and I bark at kids. I DO NOT like cats. I have never been around another dog so if you have another dog my age we can give it a try. I need someplace I can play, as I am still pretty active, and a warm place to sleep at night. I would be a perfect companion for a senior man who wants companionship without the hassles of a puppy. I still have lots of years of love to give the right person. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Onyx is a 6yr old Lab mix She is very sweet, this photo was taken at our recent fundraiser with some of our volunteers. Onyx has been put on the 'possible PTS list' because she is developing a bad cage anxiety and shes hurting herself. She wasnt like this when she first came here, and you cant blame her at all... she has spent her first 6 years of life free range in a home with a family and then at no fault of hers (owner surrender due to divorce) dumped off at the rescue. she is NOT ok with living in a cage!! she wants a loving family to love her as such. As a rescue I have to give her a time limit because she is hurting herself. Please ... (Read More)help us find Onyx a loving home fast!! She would love a large yard to run and play in, she gets along with most dogs but she is the dominate one. she HATES cats and will kill chickens. Onyx will NOT do well as an out door farm dog as she wants to be able to come inside and be one of the family. If you can give this beautiful girl a loving home please contact us for an adoption application. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Iowa
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
