Rescue Me ID: 17-02-03-00253Gracie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Deaf

Gracie is a really sweet young pup, about 9-10 months old. We live in the country and she has the run of the complete property and never leaves. She will try to jump on you only because she loves people. We have had her since a young 5 week old puppy but did not realize she was deaf till she was about 6 months old. This is the reason we need to find a new home for her since she is deaf and I'm afraid she will get run over by a vehicle since she is not fenced in. We can only have an outside dog and fencing is not an option. I recently had major surgery and have not been able to work on training her. She is quite smart but needs someone ... (Read More)who has the time to work with her. She has never hurt any of our three cats but sometimes will chase them because she wants to play. She has never been around any other dogs. She loves kids but you need to be careful around small children because she can knock them down only because she is so big. Never bites or nips and seldom barks. Loves to chew on toys and sticks. I have taught her with hand commands to sit and shake my hand. Gracie will ride on the golf cart all around with you. If my husband is outside working, cutting trees, trimming weeds or anything else Gracie is right by his side. As soon as she sees the 4x4 ATV moving she is in a full run to catch up and follow. She will spend the whole time with him. I hate to see her go but need to find a good home outside. I'm not sure if she would like to be an indoors dog. She loves the cold and winter, loves to run and slide when there is ice, and sleeps in the garage at night with the cats. (Less)

Bleu is a beautiful mutt, we guessed on breed. We think she is approx. 6 yrs old. She cannot be around cats and definitely has a prey drive. She is great around people and kids. VERY LOVABLE! She currently lives with a male dog, but still tries to be the dominant one. We would prefer she go to a home with a submissive male or no dogs. Apply to meet Bleu at www.adoptdiamonds.org

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Shelby is awesome with the dogs and the dogs seem to know that she is going to be good with them. Sundance gave Shelby kisses. I was so jealous. Hey, he never gave me kisses! lol Seriously, I was so happy to see him connecting to someone with such obvious affection! Wonderful! We are working on leash training. He is doing great with using the doggie door to go outside to potty. Sundance is really warming up and likes spending time in the office. We would to find Sundance a home but even a temporary home would be great right now. Sundance is about 8 months old now. He is a border collie mix. Sundance weighs about 22 pounds. His ...     Hi, my name is Herky. I will be six-years-old on April 25. I'm an Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Blue Healer. I am a loyal dog. I will protect/guard my home and my family. I am neutered and current with all of my vaccination. I need a home without children or children above the age of 12 and large dogs. I love small dogs and cats. I like to play with them, but will not harm them. I am protective over my food and bones. I know the basic commands. I love to be outside and run around, but I do spend my days and nights inside. Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Fearful/Anxious

Jax is a border collie/collie mix with a lot of energy. He loves to be outside and loves belly rubs. He is somewhat trained in regards to bathroom, eating, fetch, hand shake etc. Jax suffers from major anxiety and is not fond of little kids and strangers. He is protective and shows a lot of kennel aggression. He is best suited for a family with no children. He has been assessed and has been said that he is very trainable but needs someone who has the time to do it. He will most likely never get over the anxiety towards children.

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-02-00519Tripp (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Tripp. He will be 4 months old on 1/9/17. He is a very energetic puppy. A DNA test was done on him and he is 37.5% Border Collie, 13.5% Boxer and 13.5% Heeler - the balance is 'mixed' enough to not be distinctive. Very smart puppy but desperately needs a high energy home to get cracking on teaching him his basic manners. He does know 'sit' but thinks it should always be accompanied by a treat. He is great with other dogs and plays rough. He is going to be a good sized boy when he is done growing. He might be a little too high of energy for a cat. Kids above 8 would probably be best because of his energy level and the fact he is ... (Read More)still a very mouthy puppy. What you see in the picture for his ears is the way they are all the time. That isn't a pose for the picture - that is how they look all the time. Makes him a very distinct character. Tripp's adoption fee is $225.00. He is neutered, current on his shots and has been micro-chipped. If you are interested in Tripp please complete an adoption application on our website at www.patriotsforpets.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-08-31-00247Samuel (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Samuel. He has been adopted by us, twice, and both times returned for being destructive. Apparently he has separation anxiety and when no one is around he destroys all kinds of things. His latest home thinks he should be an only dog but we disagree - he got along well with their dog except at feeding time. We believe he needs a high energy playmate. He is 4 going on one and has all of the energy of a puppy. He will eat the tray in a kennel, he will bend metal in a crate and he will drool excessively if left in a kennel for too long. None of this is occurring at the shelter. He is fine in his kennel here. He isn't destructive ... (Read More)with his toys or his blanket here. He is an escape artist, however, he can get over a 6 foot chain link fence faster than you can snap your fingers. Sam behaves very well when someone is home with him - it's only when he is left alone that the problems surface. We won't even go into the list of things that have been reported that he has destroyed. He needs a home where someone is home 95% of the time. We see no reason short periods of time in a kennel will be harmful even though he doesn't care for it. If kenneling him is done slowly we believe he can be worked out of his separation anxiety. This will take LOTS of time and certainly won't be happening overnight. If there is another dog in the house it needs to be a dog bigger than him - so something over 35 pounds would be idea. He can be an only dog but may require more attention and much more exercise We will let any potential adopter read the letter from the prior adopter - it is a full page with only 3 sentences of positive - the balance is all about his bad behavior. He is housebroken but will require supervision when outside as he will escape if at all possible. Samuel will be a challenge for any adopter. This will not be a situation where he will settle in easily with no issues. We will be looking for that 'special' someone to adopt him. He has issues but doesn't deserve to be put down or live his life in the shelter. Samuel is a pretty small kid at about 33 pounds. His breed is anyone's guess. He looks a little Cocker in the face but that is all we see for a Cocker. He may have some Border Collie in him. It doesn't make much difference what he is - the one thing we know for sure is that he ALWAYS has a smile on his face. He does great with kids - except chewing up anything left unattended on the floor. If you are the special home that Samuel needs (or if you know of someone who is) please get in touch with us. Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Missy is a very special girl, she is extremely nervous of new people and can take sometime for her to trust. Once she trust her person, she is a cuddle bug. She has been through and Obedience and Agility class. She really enjoys having a job to do. She would do better in a home with a single person with no contact with children (kids scare her the most). She loves to go for walk or just hang with her person.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Iowa
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
