Border Collie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

very sweet and well behaved border collie. He was at one time potty trained but that has been allowed to lax a little bit as he has been outside in a kennel for years now. He has a lot of energy and will run away if loose. Needs a good home where he can get lots of exercise (a fenced yard or be a house dog with lots of walks). He also craves lots of love and attention, but he is not excessively needy. He is a fantastic companion but for the last several years he has lived a lonely existence confined to a kennel with little attention.

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-08-00420Kallie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We would like you to meet Kallie. She is a seven month old Border Collie/Lab mix. She is more the size of the lab. She is housebroken. She is a little too high of an energy dog for very small children - would be great with older kids. She does like to bark when she is left in the yard alone. Her prior owner used a shock collar on her to stop the barking so she does have a raw spot on her neck that is healing up. A country home might be best for her as living in town with her barking at the neighbors doesn't work.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Iowa
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
