Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are calling this guy Cutie. He is about a year and a half old. He is a lab mix (probably mixed with Border Collie). He is drop dead beautiful but is apparently a hand full. TONS of energy - all play, play, play. We were stunned when we were informed this baby has been in five homes in the past two weeks. People just keep dumping him on the free pet sites. We have to ask if anyone ever does research before they get a dog as to the characteristics of the breed(s). Labs are all puppy for at least two years - border collies are high energy for most of their lives. Add those two together and what do you get - basically a lab on steroids. But ... (Read More)come on, five homes in two weeks - this poor baby doesn't know if he is coming or going. This boy needs a job. He needs to do something that will keep him occupied. We can all join together and find this guy a REAL forever home. He is SUPER friendly - just all puppy. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-16-00412Fluffy (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We would like you to meet Patriot's newest guest. This is Fluffy. She is almost a year old and we believe she may have some Border Collie in him. The person who surrendered her said she was a Siberian Husky but as you can clearly see that is not the case. She is an awesome little guy. VERY friendly. Just wants to play and be loved. Until today when she got to us she has never had any shots. She has also not been spayed yet but will be prior to going to her new home. She will also be micro-chipped. She has no experience with other animals according to her surrender form. She is reported to be housebroken. She was a house dog. It is reported ... (Read More)that she does not like being left alone but so often that is just training. It is reported by the prior owner that she will chase squirrels and cats. No history of getting one. She is not leash trained but we will start working on that and her first time out she did very well. The only command it appears she knows is sit. She needs a home that will truly love her and care for her. She is a little insecure but with TLC that will change. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Iowa
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
