Rescue Me ID: 17-03-29-00154Baxter (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baxter was found running through the streets of College Park, Maryland. He was found wearing a harness, but no tags or microchip. He has since been to the College Park Animal Hospital for an exam, shots, and was neutered. He tested positive for Lyme Disease and is currently on antibiotics. He is about 1 year old. He is a love! He cuddles and snuggles. Loves to play with toys. Has a lot of energy - loves to go on walks. I am fostering him for the City of College Park. I would keep him in heartbeat, but I already have a cattle dog and live in an apartment. I think he would be equally great with a family, couple or single person. A ... (Read More)fenced in yard would probably be best for him. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-13-00065Griffon (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

GRIFFON'S 'MUST HAVES' 1. physical fenced yard where he will have room to run around and explore. He can jump fairly high so it should be at least 4 foot tall. 2. young, playful buddy in the house. Griffon gets along with most dogs that he encounters but with his energy level, he can overwhelm some dogs. Size and gender do not matter...he will play with any dog. 3. a family/person willing to walk/run him at least twice a day for at least 1.5 to 2 miles each time. He would be a great runner's dog. 4. older children (10+) or no children in the house. When Griffon gets really excited, he will jump up and on people and he will ... (Read More)use his mouth when playing. He is also a door dasher and can open doors if they are not locked. If he gets out of the house, he will run (no loyalty yet). Application link is: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/E53LXc4bsw6r997fuK4 Griffon is being fostered in the Northwestern Virginia area until he finds his permanent home. Griffon is a 14 to 16 month old puppy that is medium sized in the 35 pound range. He is a strong, muscular springy dog that is high energy and very playful. Mix is unknown but he is tri-colored - black, white and a caramel brown. He has coarse hair in some areas like a terrier, and really soft, thick fur in other areas like a Border Collie or Collie. His temperament is very Border Collie like and he is house-broken and crate-trained. He currently needs to be crated when no one is home and at night or he will chew on inappropriate things. Griffon does need A LOT of exercise though. He gets miles every day spread out over 2 to 3 walks/runs. He also gets play and yard time in between with the three other large dogs in the house. He needs another playful dog in the house and definitely a physical fenced yard. He is a very friendly boy and loves to cuddle but when he gets going, he is very high energy. He loves playing 'chase' with other dogs. Griffon is not good with kitties. He will need more work on leash skills and basic obedience. He is up to date on vaccinations (combo and Rabies), is micro-chipped, neutered and on monthly heart worm aand flea/tick preventatives. He is heart worm negative. Griffon's adoption fee will be $350 which will go towards his vetting costs and transport costs to get him to the USA (which together are more than the $350 adoption fee). If you would like more pictures/information or videos, please email me through this site. I am looking to place Griffon within a 3 hour radius of Washington, DC. We also have volunteers in Southern PA, Pittsburgh area, New Jersey, North Carolina (some parts) and Southern Virginia. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-04-00552Sierra (female)

Border Collie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Adorable ten year old border collie dog, Sierra who I love very much but requires immediate and emergency rehoming. I have three other dogs--a lab mix and two blue heelers from my wife who brought the dogs into the house via marriage. Sierra cannot be around other dogs. She is a smart and loyal dog. Love car rides very much. Very curious and loves looking outside the window during rides. Totally house broken. Well trained in the house (knows to stay off furniture-will learn quickly which rooms to enter and which rooms not to enter). Loyal. Loves going for runs in the yard. Gets along with people well. Ideally would go to a single ... (Read More)pet home with a large fenced yard for runs (we currently live on a half-acre electric fence property and she loves running around the property). Very independent. Will call your attention if she wants to go outside or back inside. Easy to take care of but simply cannot be around other dogs. For our other dogs safety, we need emergency placement somewhere else. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Maryland
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
