Animal ID: 7398Melodie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Melodie. I just moved to Baltimore MD after the great humans of OPH picked me up in South Carolina! I am about a 9 month old lab/border collie/grey hound mix (vet guesses) about 45lbs, who is fixed & up to date on shots. Unfortunately I have a cast on my leg & will probably have it 1-3 more weeks (11/9) very exciting news since I've been in it 2 months! The vet says I am healing very nicely and we are coming to the home stretch!! Once the cast is off, I have to continue to strengthen my leg, so I will only be allowed to walk on a leash (no off-leash activity/no running for a few weeks). How did I do that, you ask... well, you see, ... (Read More)I was enjoying the nice weather on my fosters deck & I saw our neighbor in the yard and I got so excited to have a human to play with that I started running and jumping around the deck, then I jumped so high I went over the rail and took a 15ft fall onto the yard. But I'm a tough cookie and all I got was a broken paw! - Don't worry I'm still a happy-go-lucky pup, & it's the cutest thing ever to see me hop on 3 legs! - I am still very much a puppy and love my play time and am almost always on the go! My foster mom says I'm the sweetest dog she's ever seen, but I keep her on her toes! I LOVE my people & follow them everywhere I can, and I miss them when they're gone. (It takes a few minutes for me to settle in the crate once they leave). - I'm still allowed to walk and play. I love other dogs and always want to play! I'm not supposed to run (because I need to give time for my paw to heal, but once I'm healed I would make an awesome running buddy and will need some way to get my puppy energy out! - I met a cat a few times at the vet & was excited to meet a new friend! - I take some time to adjust to new environments but I finally got the potty training down! I know what 'go potty' means & whine when I need to go out - but I rely on my humans and keeping me on a schedule helps! - I'm working on Sit, Down, Paw, stay! I recently learned to sit & stay before getting the 'okay' to move out the door before a walk, and am learning not to pull on a leash! I am also learning not to jump on humans, but I just get so excited! I am very food motivated! I came all this way to find an awesome family to be a part of. Someone who can play with me, cuddle, and take care of my leg until I'm ready to walk on 4 legs again. Could that be you? If you are interested in adopting Melodie, please apply today! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Maryland
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
