Rescue Me ID: 15-03-12-00177Miss Barnacle (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Looking for a glimpse of sun and sand? Introducing Miss Barnacle! She traveled all the way from Turks and Caicos with IPAW staff to Minnesota to find her forever home! Barnacle or "Barney" is a 2 year old potcake, aka an island mutt. We found Barnacle on the beach in front of our hotel. We asked around and nobody seemed to own her. TCSPCA was hosting a spay and neuter clinic that week so we took her in and found she had been previously spayed but she did test positive for heart worm. The crew with IPAW and TCSPCA fell in love with her and decided she needed to come back to the States with us and find a good home. She is receiving ... (Read More)treatment for her heart worm along with mange. Surprisingly, this island girl does not mind the cold. She enjoys exploring in the backyard and going for walks. She is house-trained and kennel trained! Her housemates have taught her how to play with toys - she really loves tug of war and anything squeaky. She does well with other dogs, but she cannot be housed with other dominant female dogs. She adores cats and loves all people. You can see how she wiggled into her foster mom's heart! She will be available for adoption after finishing her treatments! If you are interested in this animal, please go to our website at AOHrescue.org and complete the dog adoption application. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Minnesota
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
