Animal ID: 14-0576Tex (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Tex one handsome young fella looking for a new home. Tex was given away at a bar and then turned into the shelter. He's not too worried about it either as he's just a pup and looking for someone to love. Tex is clearly learning new things and he's a bit submissive and shy as he wants someone else to take the lead. When it comes to dogs he's also a bit of a shy guy but does very well in the play arena. Cats are too interesting for him. Tex is easy and gentle so kids are a thumbs up for this family man. Tex is a medium sized dog with moderate energy. He loves his person and enjoys the outdoors hiking and going wherever it is that you want ... (Read More)to go. He's a follower and not much of a leader but he would love to take the hand of someone to show him what life is really about. Tex is working on his commands and knows how to sit. He walks easy on a leash. If you love a subtly shy kind guy than come meet Tex! (Less)

Animal ID: 14-Wags Wags (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wags is a 2 yr old female Border Collie/Blue Heeler cross. She is super fast, loves to chase, and very intelligent. Wags is also house trained, crate trained, and does well with basic obedience. She is looking for a very special new owner who is familiar with the particular needs of a herding dog. She gets along with some dogs as well. Wags was bred from working cattle dogs and spent her formative first few months with the cattle and very little human interaction. She can be fearful and slightly reactive to strangers and is not a good fit for a household with young children as she has bitten in reaction to too rough of play when she felt ... (Read More)trapped. Wags has been working on her issues with professional trainers with positive results and needs someone willing and able to continue that work. She is definitely a herder who currently has no positive outlet for her instinct. Wags is unemployed and desperately needs a job. Wags also is prone to urinary tract infections so is on a strict diet. She is spayed, current on all vaccinations, and weighs about 34 lbs. In spite of her poor start in life and all the other things working against her, Wags is sweet and enjoys lap time. It is easy to see why her breed is often referred to as a 'velcro' dog as she is very loyal and loving with her people. She is protective of her home most often times. I think she would thrive with someone who wanted to do agility with her or as a running partner or just about any thing that keeps her engaged mentally and/or physically. More than anything Wags love to play games. She's always ready for a game of retrieving. Watch how quick and agile Wags is in her video. Without a doubt she's a loveable girl with her inner circle! Thank you for considering Wags. Wags has limited time to find a home before she will be put down. I can be reached at 461-4384 or Email Loreen@onewest.net. (Less)

Animal ID: 14-ZoeyZoey (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Blind

Zoey is an 8 month old special needs puppy that was rescued from the Fort Belnap Reservation along with her brothers and sisters as they were involved in a cruelty drug bust case. Zoey does have some mild to deficits with her mobility. Her disabilities don't prevent her from being an active dog as she can hike, play and run. Not entirely certain if this occurred from physical abuse or a drug induced environment. Luckily Zoey has the most happy, friendly spirit that is filled with pure innocence. Zoey was adopted and returned for not being potty trained however, she has been left for hours at a time with no consistency. Zoey has some ... (Read More)cerebellum issues that cause her footing to be a bit off. She also has some troubles with depth perception and may have some blindness in one eye but I'm not seeing the blindness at this point. Zoey is considered to be moderate to high energy. She gets along very well with people. She's an absolute superstar in the play arena as she has become an overnight hit at the shelter due to her amazing dog social skills. She has lived with cats but did chase them but never hurting them. You could say she is very playful in a fun way. She has capacity to learn and knows how to sit on command. Zoey will need to find a very special home due to her health issues as they are not fully known. Looking for someone that is interested in a special needs dog. Zoey will be relocating to Herding Dogs of Wyoming in April. You may contact this posting or Joan at Herding Dogs. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Montana
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Montana if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
