Animal ID: 1171Rupert (male)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rupert is a Border Collie with a lot of love to give currently being fostered in southern NJ. He is estimated to be about 3 years old. 'Rue' is a high energy dog and gets along with cats, most dogs, and other animals, including goats and chickens. Although he can play a little rough sometimes. Loud noises such as thunder or traffic can get him worked up, so a calm and quiet rural/suburban home would be best suited for him. He is good with people but due to his high energy level, a home with young children isn't recommended. Rue is currently undergoing heartworm treatment but is expected to have a clean bill of health soon. If you think ... Rescue Me ID: 17-05-07-00091Ace (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ace is a 55lb. well behaved, energetic dog that loves playing fetch, and staying active. He's been with our family since he was a puppy (age 5 now) and has been a good fit up until the arrival of our now 18 month old son. He listens well but his 'herding' instinct has kicked in with our son who is also very active and in constant motion. Since we want the best for Ace, he really needs to be in an environment with Adults (or older kids)and some space to run around. He has never been very affectionate but is a good companion for someone looking for a pretty low maintenance pet and likes to throw tennis balls! He gets along with most other ... (Read More)dogs as long as they are not very dominant. In fact, our mother and her Bichon/Spaniel mix (age 8) lived with us (Ace) for the past four years and they were great together. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in New Jersey
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in New Jersey if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
