This beautiful girl lived her entire life tied to a tree in NC until she was rescued (along with her puppies). Rescue Me ID: 17-04-09-00058Roscoe (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Hello! Posting for my friend Roscoe, a 6 year old shelter rescue in New York's Hudson Valley. Looking for someone who is herding breed savvy! He is a fast learner, very food motivated & responsive to positive reinforcement (with firm boundaries!). This sweet boy has come leaps and bounds from the bitey puppy he was when he first came home with me--but has recently shown mild to medium resource guarding following a stressful move/change in my career (no longer a dog walker!) Although resource guarding is especially common in Cattle Dogs (and there hasn't been a recent bite stronger than him touching his teeth to my new partner's hand), I ... (Read More)believe he will do much better in a home that can fully exhaust his brain + body. Roscoe has lived in houses harmoniously with cats, dogs & children. With a proper introduction + high value treats out of the way, he does well with socialized dogs. He does want to be dominant over young puppies and some larger dogs. Roscoe likes children! He has been trained to not jump, give kisses, sit and wait for them to offer treats, etc. He also really likes cats, but gives them space. That being said, I think he would thrive in a house as the only pet or one shared with felines. He is a very cuddly dog & knows how to relax when the day is done. I would not say he has separation anxiety, nor has he ever been destructive. Feel free to contact me with any questions! I know Roscoe will bring a better suited home just as much joy as he has brought me these past 5 years. (Less)

You'll have to ask them all about their great adventures when you meet these two bonded beauties. Of course they are super attached to one another- as best friends should be. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-22-00289Harley (female)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Next time you see her, Harley will be accepting the gold medal in agility at the summer Olympics! Harley is incredibly fast and limber, and has been showing us just how good she is at many basic agility skills. Coupled with her gorgeous looks, Harley is quite the addition for a family looking for an active dog. We originally met Harley back in Ohio, where we then pulled her into our shelter from a shelter up there. She was quickly adopted from our shelter, but due to extenuating circumstances she was returned to us a few months ago. Being in a kennel environment is unnatural for any dog, but especially for one that had been adopted out so ... (Read More)recently. Harley also prefers to not be around other dogs (0r cats!) so the kennel is particularly stressful for her. Since her return, we have been trying to enrich her day-to-day by incorporating some agility training and she is excelling at it. Harley is incredibly playful and friendly, so the more chances she gets to strut her stuff, the better! Harley is looking to loop her way into your heart-please fill out an online application below if you are interested in adopting! (Less)

ZERO IS A COURTESY POST WITH ONE OF OUR SISTER RESCUES This is Zero. This little hunk has missed out on the life he deserves thus far, but all that has now changed. He still bears some residuals from his previously life, as he had severe flea dermatitis and you see where his hair along his back is still growing back in, but he's a happy and lovable boy and so adorable that you smile every time you see him. Even this video doesn't look like him to me, he's that much cuter in person. He's good with other dogs and loves people. He's only about 35lbs and just sheer perfection. He is good with other dogs and cats and loves to play catch. He ... (Read More)is crate trained, neutered, and UTD on vaccines. He is currently being fostered in Middletown, NY. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in New York
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
