Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Fay! Fay has been in foster care with Paws for Life since October 2016. But don't let those months fool you, she is just now going up for adoption. When she was rescued from the local shelter she had the worst case of demodectic mange her foster mom had ever seen. She had lost nearly all of her hair and her skin was infected and itchy. With lots of love and care she is once again the dog she should be, happy and healthy. Her skin no longer itches and she thrives on the attention of her foster family. Fay is estimated at 10 years old but don't think that she is going to be a complete couch potato. Fay is approximately 50-55lbs and the ... (Read More)vet's best guess on her breed was a husky/border collie mix. Ms Fay loves to go out in the fenced in yard with all of her foster brothers and sisters. While she may not be as athletic as the younger pooches, she will still play 'chase the husky' around the yard for a while. Once she is all worn out, she is known to bark at the back door to let her foster family know that she wants back inside to snuggle and get love. This sweet older lady is house and crate trained. She knows the command 'sit' but is easily distracted so she does not always perform on command. Fay is very food motivated and really enjoys her breakfast and dinner. She is currently fed in her crate because she exhibited some very minor food aggression when she was first rescued. However, now she can eat in her crate with the door open and other dogs milling around and not have any issues at all. Fay also is very cat friendly. She ignores them when they run by her and tolerates it when the kittens rub up against her. There are also 4 small children in her foster home and she is fabulous with all of them (ages newborn-5yrs). Occasionally, she will bump into one of the children but it is purely accidental. Fay is all up to date on her vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. The mange that she had was treated with Bravecto which is a flea/tick prevention, and it is highly recommended that she remain on this for the rest of her life (unless advised by a vet) to prevent any relapse. Fay is looking for her forever home to live out her life and if you think that could be you please apply at http://pawsforlifenc.org/pet-adoptions/dog-adoptions/ her adoption fee is $225. If you have any questions about Fay, you can contact her foster at jessica@pawsforlifenc.org (Less)

Hi there! My name is Duncan. I'm currently single and looking for my forever family. I heard that putting a profile online is a good way to meet the 'right one' so here I go! I'm a 1 year old Lab/Border Collie Mix. My foster mommy says that if I was one of the 7 dwarfs it would be 'Happy' with a little bit of 'Dopey' mixed in and that my theme song should be 'Don't worry, be happy'. That's because she says I've never met a stranger be it dog, cat or people and my tail is constantly going! She says I love everyone and its true...well except for those people that let me end up at the shelter. I know! Can you imagine me in a shelter?? So a ... (Read More)little bit more about me: I weigh 60 pounds right now and have some big ol' feet to grow into so I'll be a good size dog when I grow up. Probably around 60-70 pounds is my foster mommy's guess. I walk really well on a leash and am learning to potty only outside but haven't quite gotten the hang of that yet. I know 'sit' and am crate trained. I may cry for a minute or two but that's just to see if you'll give in and let me out. My foster mommy says don't fall for it...oops! I shouldn't have told you that! I love to play with toys of all kinds like Kongs, tennis balls, squeaky toys...bring it on! I also have a ton of fun playing with my lab foster brother and sister. I even like to hang with the cats sometimes. I'm still a puppy and a bit mouthy since I'm in the middle of teething, so even though I really like kids, I should probably go to a home with older kids. I also have a lot of energy, so if you're an active person I'd be a great companion for long walks and maybe when I'm older we could try some running. You just need to let my bones develop first. I'm neutered, microchipped and up to date on all my shots. So that means I'm ready to go!! Are you looking for a SUPER CUTE very loving fellow to fill in that whole in your life? Well here I am. You just need to put in an application. You can go to fchsnc.org and just put my name down. My adoption fee is $225 and I'm worth every penny and them some! Tail wags and puppy kisses! Duncan (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-09-00201Elsa (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

**Meet Elsa! She is currently in foster w/ college students in an apartment. the bike video is recent...they hike w/ her, love her & wish they could adopt. https://youtu.be/CkWln9fMYAk Elsa is a 2 1/2-year old, 45-pound Boxer/Border Collie/Lab mix who was rescued from a kill shelter by Love Mutts Rescue, Raleigh, NC. 'I love when you take me outside! Ah, are you putting your shoes on? You're leaving? I'll sit by the door to say goodbye. Let me just lick you a few times; .and back to the couch.' Elsa is simply just happy to be alive and next to somebody! She can get excited around other animals... She fetches, knows all her basic commands ... (Read More)(and some pretty interesting ones), and is such a love bug.Elsa is INCREDIBLY affectionate. She's great in the car too!! She truly is amazing and will make an absolutely wonderful, loyal best friend for you. She's the perfect dog to come home to! Totally good in the house, NO crate needed. She would rather spend time next to you than do anything else in the world. Please consider a adopting Elsa! She'll win your heart immediately. She should have a fenced yard, unless her forever family is willing to play, walk, and exercise her regularly. She is high energy, but settles in so calmly in an apartment and cannot be in a home with cats or other animals. ********************************************************************************* http://www.dogingtonpost.com/the-12-dogs-of-christmas-meet-elsa-in-rescue-for-over-400-days/ *************************** Elsa has been with Love Mutts for 2 years! That's too long, but we aren't giving up on finding her the perfect home. This awesome dog adores people, is excellent with children, is incredibly intelligent and obedient, makes a great running partner, knows several commands, loves to play fetch (she ALWAYS brings the ball right back to you!) and just wants to please. Unfortunately she also is extremely picky of her dog friends and chases smaller animals with intent to catch them, so her ideal home and family will be where she is an only pet. She was fostered on a small farm in Wake Forest where there are several dogs, horses, chickens, ducks and cats. She played with confident, larger dogs just fine. Insecure and smaller dogs, not so well. She wants to chase the cats, chickens, ducks, however we have taught her to watch, enjoy them, from behind the fence, instead of bark at them. Her maturity & training have rounded out this very affectionate girl. Elsa is almost 3 years old, spayed, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm negative and is ready for a family of her own. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in North Carolina
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
