Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Gordon is looking for a forever family that will give him the love and companionship he craves. He is a one year old, neutered male, Border Collie mix. He is 40-45 pounds, crate trained, mostly housebroken, comes when called, and walks well on a leash. This sweet boy loves walks, playing with squeaky toys, and romping around with the resident dogs. He would do best in a family that can provide him with daily exercise and mental stimulation as he is very bright and enjoys learning new things. Gordon is current with vaccinations and fostered in Harrisburg, PA. PA Caring for K-9's is an all breed dog rescue. Most of our dogs are rescued from ... (Read More)high kill shelters in the South. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-05-00431Emma (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Emma Emma's time is running out. She was rescued by a Good Samaritan who could not keep her in their home. In a little under two weeks, this smart and engaging 1 1/2 old female learned sit, stay, come, down, and off. Like all young ones, especially independent thinking smart females, she has selective hearing but for the most part will mind those commands. Because of her herding border mix, she would be a perfect fit for someone with a large fenced in yard and and/or a runner. Her blood and stool samples show her negative for over and parasites and diseases like Lyme disease and Bordetella. Emma can be a bit punchy due to a lack of a ... (Read More)firm handler who knows and understands cattle dog / border collie smarts. She is a pity mix but need someone who is willing to foster for a few months or a strong handler. Emma is only 35 pounds. She has been in a kennel for two weeks now. In general she has had no difficulty with the three women and handlers whoever enjoyed her. she has and has had the opportunity to enjoy the company of several males in a fairly large enclosure. She had no problems with them, however she has not been tried with any females. Though she has not had any problems with dog compatibility, if given the choice she would rather be in the office with the humans. In the opinion of someone with 20 years experience in the rescue of pit and pit mixes, she is positive that Emma's confirmation and personality is that of one of the herding breeds probably border collie. She also has either staffy or pit genes. Shelters have said they would put her down if she was brought to them. Is there anyone out there who's willing to put in a couple of months training and work into this girl to give her one last shot? (Less)

It's hard to fit Emma into the given categories about compatibility. She has generally been okay in the kennel where she is boarding while awaiting rescue. She has been okay in a large enclosed exercise area. She has only been tried with males. Emma can exhibit mouthy behavior at times especially when stressed or surprised. She is very bright and engaging. In 11 days, she learned and is fairly consistent with sit, stay, come, down, off, and wait.     I need to find a new home for Maggie as I just found out that my 17 month old granddaughter is allergic to dogs. I am sad to let her go as she has been a good and loyal pet. Maggie is 7 years old & has been spayed and is current with all of her shots. She would do well on a working farm or someone with a large fenced yard who is experienced with this breed. She is very smart & her favorite past time is catching a frizbee or catching a ball and returning it to you. Maggie would do well with older children but no babies/toddlers nor other pets.

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I have a Border Collie Mix 3 year old Jacky in need of FARM to work and roam, or someone experienced/interested in this particular breed can take him in probably taking him to do agility training. He is EXTREMELY smart and has learnt all the tricks quickly. He knows all the openings/exits from doors/windows around my house. He is very playful and loves to stay outside as long as he wants, rain or snow. He even knows how to escape around you. He knows what you are doing/thinking and responds very well. Thus Jacky is easily bored in my house and getting frustrated if nothing for him to do. He is best to be an only dog, working dog in the farm, ... (Read More)or with someone who is knowledgeable with this mixed breed. Jacky is of MEDIUM energy level, not as high energy as typical Border Collies, after some exercises and play, he stays calm and loves to lie down next to you to keep you company while watching TV, doing homework on computer etc. He will definitely make a great companion for someone special, particularly as an only dog. In the past few months, we did contact several Border Collie Rescue groups, it seemed that they considered that Jacky is fully black, instead of typical black and white, thus we were not able to get Jacky exposed through their rescue networks. Please let me know if you or someone is looking for such type of dog to be a walking/working companion. TIA (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-19-00297Millie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Meet Millie! This petite 1-2 yr old mutt (maybe border collie, small terrier type mix?) unceremoniously found herself at a local shelter. Shelter life did not agree with this sweet girl, and the noise and smells of such a place made her extra nervous and a little grumpy, and she nipped a vet tech. Who could blame her, its a scary place! Now that Millie has been sprung by Dog Town she is slowly getting her bearings and coming out of her shell. She has proven to be super smart dog who loves to learn and is already mastering training our staff and volunteers to use the clicker and give her lots of treats. When approached slowly and given ... (Read More)time to get to know someone she is affectionate and sweet and soon seeks you out for even more attention. She is one of those dogs with so much potential, that just needs someone to give her a little time. The rewards will be immense! Millie would be best in a home without very young kids, or those who understand she will need time to decompress and learn to trust someone. She does well with other dogs and would be fine as either an only dog, or with a canine buddy (or a few!). Millie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and ready to go home. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Pennsylvania
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
