Animal ID: TrixieTrixie (female)
Trixie is an emotional special needs girl. Physically she's healthy as far as we know. Mentally, something happened in her past that made her fearful. She can't be pushed into new experiences quickly. When she panics, she barks, so it's easy to tell when she's freaking out and needs to back off. She enjoys time outs in the bedroom alone when the world becomes too overwhelming. She also enjoys being near her human, cuddling in bed, and getting belly rubs. She rides well in the car after the first few miles. (She'll pace and then we tell her to go to bed and she lays down.) She walks well on a Halti style head harness, but needs more training to walk on a loose leash without that harness. She is housebroken and does not need to be crated as she does not have destructive behaviors. She does need a room or spot that's 'her bed' where you can tell her to go when she needs her space. In her foster home, we tell her to 'go to bed' and she goes up on the love seat in our bedroom. If you're an introvert, you'll probably understand her better than most people. ---------------------------------------------------------- She'd do best with someone who lives a calm, quiet lifestyle perhaps out in the country. She is not good with cats and will chase wildlife. Fenced yard mandatory (4' high) as she occasionally needs to zoom around the yard to burn off stress. ---------------------------------------------------------- You'll know if you're right for Trixie. You'll know because you'll have had a shy or abused dog in the past and you've helped them overcome it. You'll know because you're the type that never gives up. You'll know because you've taken positive-motivation training classes. You'll know because you're a gentle leader who can keep your cool in stressful situations. You'll know because you don't expect a dog to be perfect. In fact, you like to give a home to a dog that most people will pass by. You'll know because you're ok with modifying your life somewhat if that's what it takes to make a dog feel safe. With dogs like this, it's not about what's right for you. It's about what's right for them...and you totally understand what that means. We're looking for someone who's into positive motivation training and who knows how to be a confident leader to a fearful dog. ---------------------------------------------------------- Trixie is not suitable for first time adopters, casual adopters who are looking for an easy/social dog, families with children, or large/dominant/in-your-face dogs. She would do best as the only dog or with a dog that's smaller than her and very submissive/gentle. She gets along great with the small dogs in her foster home who are under 20 lb and submissive. ---------------------------------------------------------- Trixie is fostered in Blakeslee PA 18610. She weighs 42 lb and is estimated to be around 4 years old. If you live in or near the Lehigh Valley/Phillipsburg NJ area, our trainer is offering free classes to Trixie's adopters. Adoption fee ($212) includes spay, 4DX test, vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment. ADOPTION APPLICATION: http://form.jotform.us/form/41555257797165 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-22-00049Emma (female)
It's hard to fit Emma into the given categories about compatibility. She has generally been okay in the kennel where she is boarding while awaiting rescue. She has been okay in a large enclosed exercise area. She has only been tried with males. Emma can exhibit mouthy behavior at times especially when stressed or surprised. She is very bright and engaging. In 11 days, she learned and is fairly consistent with sit, stay, come, down, off, and wait. She has had her rabies vaccination, is negative for parasites, lime disease per stool and blood exam. Smart loving 1 1/2 yo Staffordshire female. With help from patient, assertively loving, constant adults this 'diamond in the rough' pup could be a great furbaby member of a family. Have been told by a person with 20 yrs experience w/ pits/pit mixes Emma most likely has some herding genes & is better with more room to exercise and/ or a runner. buddy to exercise with. mart loving 1 1/2 yo Staffordshire female. |Rescue Me ID: 15-02-07-00292jacky (male)|
I have a Border Collie Mix 3 year old Jacky in need of FARM to work and roam, or someone experienced/interested in this particular breed can take him in probably taking him to do agility training. He is EXTREMELY smart and has learnt all the tricks quickly. He knows all the openings/exits from doors/windows around my house. He is very playful and loves to stay outside as long as he wants, rain or snow. He even knows how to escape around you. He knows what you are doing/thinking and responds very well. Thus Jacky is easily bored in my house and getting frustrated if nothing for him to do. He is best to be an only dog, working dog in the farm, or with someone who is knowledgeable with this mixed breed. Jacky is of MEDIUM energy level, not as high energy as typical Border Collies, after some exercises and play, he stays calm and loves to lie down next to you to keep you company while watching TV, doing homework on computer etc. He will definitely make a great companion for someone special, particularly as an only dog. In the past few months, we did contact several Border Collie Rescue groups, it seemed that they considered that Jacky is fully black, instead of typical black and white, thus we were not able to get Jacky exposed through their rescue networks. Please let me know if you or someone is looking for such type of dog to be a walking/working companion. TIA (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-19-00297Millie (female)
Meet Millie! This petite 1-2 yr old mutt (maybe border collie, small terrier type mix?) unceremoniously found herself at a local shelter. Shelter life did not agree with this sweet girl, and the noise and smells of such a place made her extra nervous and a little grumpy, and she nipped a vet tech. Who could blame her, its a scary place! Now that Millie has been sprung by Dog Town she is slowly getting her bearings and coming out of her shell. She has proven to be super smart dog who loves to learn and is already mastering training our staff and volunteers to use the clicker and give her lots of treats. When approached slowly and given time to get to know someone she is affectionate and sweet and soon seeks you out for even more attention. She is one of those dogs with so much potential, that just needs someone to give her a little time. The rewards will be immense! Millie would be best in a home without very young kids, or those who understand she will need time to decompress and learn to trust someone. She does well with other dogs and would be fine as either an only dog, or with a canine buddy (or a few!). Millie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and ready to go home. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Pennsylvania
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
