Rescue Me ID: 16-07-09-00210Cowboy (male)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 5/18/16 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Weight: 63 lb Height: Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? yes What kind of home would be best for me? Cowboy is loyal and loving. He would excel in a home where he could be active and by his peoples side regularly. A fenced in yard with room to run would be wonderful. He will attach very quickly to his new home. Cowboy ideally wants to be the one and only pet in your home. He is a handsome boy who wants all of your love and attention - can you blame him? He is fine with dogs in general, but prefers more ... (Read More)submissive, laid back dogs. Cowboy just doesn't like sharing his people and stuff (including food) with another dog. He could potentially be ok with another dog given time, patience, and addressing his behavior properly, but we think he would ultimately do best as a single doggie. He loves loves loves people! He just loves to play and is a big strong boy, so we're advising he go to a home with children 10 and older. What is my personality like? Cowboy is very laid back. He does not pull while on leash but walks beside and does the natural herding dog thing by looking up to see what you want him to go next. Not interested in toys or balls. Comes for the most part when called, will sit for a treat. He is learning to lay down on command. Loves to be loved on! He is very eager to please. How I act when I first meet new people: Sweet and friendly House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: 4 years Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.     This dog was severely malnourished at the time she came into my care. She had upset stomach and a great deal of digestive difficulty. In the three months since she came into my home, she has picked up about fifteen lbs, improved in her overall health and disposition, and really shows a sweet and loving personality. She is very affectionate, loves to take walks, and is friendly with other animals, cats and kittens included. Shadow has not been tested for EPI, but she is currently on a grain free diet, and should be continued on grain free foods. In addition, she requires enzyme replacement therapy to help with her digestive problems. ... (Read More)These treatments have helped her a great deal. Enzyme therapy can be expensive, so please explore EPI, caring for an EPI dog, and visit EnzymeDianne.com for an idea on pricing these treatments. This dog will require special care for life and needs a good home with a family who can afford to give her the best life she can live. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-30-00495Dakota3 (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

We saved Dakota from a high kill shelter as she was running out of time. We were told she had possible kidney stones and was urinating blood and needed out ASAP per shelter vets documentation, with surgery needed to remove the stones. She was utd on shots, spayed and good with other dogs per shelter, which we have since discovered she certainly is protective of her humand and isn't really friendly towards other animals. We immediately took her to the vet and upon examination, and x-rays he told us he couldn't justify doing surgery, because he did not feel or see any stones. Dakota has begun her heart worm treatment and is doing great with ... (Read More)her foster. Dakota will continue on her heart worm treatment, and will be spayed very soon. She is listed as Border/Collie/Lab. Chocolate, born 3/23/2013. She was an Owner surrender at a high kill shelter. She is available for adoption but must complete her heartworm treatment & spay surgery. She probably would be better in a home by herself, or with just one other dog. Previous owner said on intake sheet, she likes children (probably older children, not unsteady toddlers), dogs, cats and livestock, but we believe she would need re-introduced to other animals prior to adoption. Her breed is very protective and needs a strong human leader in the household. Download an application at our website: wwwcarolinahelpingpawsrescue.org (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in South Carolina
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in South Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
