Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Jewel has had a rough life as a 4 eyed, seven year old kelpie mix, no one has ever wanted to adopt her & she's been waiting for a year for a home!. It really unfair that such a rare & exotic dog is being passed over because of her looks. Jewel is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, house & kennel trained & has excellent house manners. She is good with dogs & kids but we aren't sure about cats as her foster home doesn't have any. If you would like to add Jewel to your family forever please fill out an application at http://form.jotform.us/form/40468849602159. **disclaimer** this was a joke picture, if you would like to see the ...     Valentine's Day is fast approaching -- have you found your Valentine yet? If not, check out Rollo! He promises to be your Valentine every day of the year! Rollo is a sweet and lovable 1-year-old mixed breed who's looking for a new home. His family is moving into a home with a much smaller backyard, and they think it would be better for Rollo to find a new home. Rollo is really quite the dapper boy - just look at his gorgeous coat! He's a big boy of about 70 lbs, but that just means there's plenty more love to go around! Being a young dog of about a year old, Rollo has lots of energy and loves to run and play outside. He also loves going for ... (Read More)walks! Rollo is happy to share your love and attention with other dogs or kids - he's great with both. Cats, on the other hand, not so much. Rollo already knows basic commands like sit, stay and come, and he's housebroken as well. He also loves food, so you could teach him much more! Rollo is a super friendly boy, when he meets you, he won't be shy! Instead, he'll run right up to you and say hello! And if you take him home with you, he'll be your best friend forever! So what do you say? Could Rollo be the Valentine of your dreams? If so, please email us and we'll put you in contact with his current family, so you can arrange to meet him! We have more pictures of this handsome boy as well! (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Winston: 2.5 yr; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Smooth Short Haired Coat; Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. How fantastic is life when you find that right partner who loves to take walks, play with toys inside while your cooking or working from home who loves dogs and kitties!? Well that's our boy Winston young at heart and soul of an angel. His past remains somewhat of a mystery and Winston would appreciate that as well as he is flourishing from when life was good as a young pup turning into an adult. Winston does best in an apartment/condo setting and he does enjoy his balcony time%81S His foster mom and ... (Read More)I feel he will do best with either a young retried person/couple, someone that works from home, a couple or 2 roommates who have either another confident/playful companion dog similar in size, 30 lbs medium size dog, or kitties that love to play with dogs. He doesn't need or want a yard he loves his leash time and rolling around on the grass on walks playing with the ball/toys inside. What we do know is that Winston was a lost soul loose in Alief Houston just darting between a few streets wondering what happened to him and where did his people go. It took a team of kind Samaritans one month to earn his trust and follow them into a large fenced area so he could be rescued! Yes trust for Winston is HUGE, and it does take him a little time to warm up. All of his fear behaviors (jumping back, lowering to the ground, darting to offset the humans next move) he has turned into positive fun playful pawz with eye contact and he sniffs to understand, of course we give him time and room to learn about new people. He is house trained, enjoys car rides and snuggles, does great on a leash, can settle in for a few longer work days but other days he may need a walk in between, fully vaccinated/neutered and micro chipped. ***We are looking for a centrally located to Houston adopter, easy enough for us to drive for a final home visit if it's a match as we must see this dog in his potential environment*** Winston's adoption donation is $275, application to fill out/please share with us how Winston would fit in your life and there is a home visit if we feel a strong match (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Shep Sex: Male 1 yr; Activity Level: Active Companion; Aussie/Border Collie; Coat: Bi B/W Split Face Rough Coat; Weight: 46 lbs. Who is this striking young man-well it's Mr Shep sillies%81S Yes another beautiful soul inside/outside was a stray in this large city of ours and very well taken care of by his wonderful finder. Of course we could help with Shep he's an amazing dog, more than likely was in the wrong home for his needs. How fantastic is it that Shep's foster home has a highly trained confident female poodle-exactly what he was looking for a missing piece to his new journey! He loves to take walks in the neighborhood; trail ... (Read More)walks with hills we find this is so important for young dogs to build great muscle tone; loves learning fun obedience tricks; plays with toys and ball and learned how to bring back to his foster as well as he can enjoy tug games with his foster dog; can be trusted on a long line leash for trail walks and he just listens and learns so easily. He can get a little overwhelmed with too much stimulation ie more than 2 children in a home, a dog park when busy, doggie classes at a pet store or in a large group. Shep crates nicely; sleeps loose on the floor of his fosters bed, eats loose with his foster dog for meal times; settles with a bone outside enjoying some down time; is getting more comfortable with car rides; with ample exercise he can settle in for an 8 hr work day best crated as he is still a puppy and likes to chew some%81S; disregards kitties; handles house cleaning time by moving to a comfy couch or his dog bed and if scared his foster talks him through the situation. It has been very important to educate Shep on anything that could be scary/unknown and he works right through it. We feel that Shep is a great first time herding dog that is highly trainable and will do best in a home that hopefully has a confident fun dog to share with or having a consistent group of regular doggie play/walk buddies; he would do well with an active hands on person who wants to totally connect with a pup expand Shep's horizons; a home with children no younger than 6 maximum 2 children in the home; a young/active retired couple/person. Not an apartment dog Shep will need a good size yard with a fence a rural living situation may also suit him well. Shep's adoption donation is $275, he is fully vaccinated and microchipped on heart worm/flea protection. Please tell us a little bit about yourself, there is an application to fill out and a home visit if applicable we WOULD LOVE to see Shep in his forever home drivable distance is preferred and if out of state you must come to TX and visit with Shep we won't transport this dog.     Hi! My name is Nyah - that means 'purpose'. And my purpose is to learn that humans are OK and find a wonderful home to grow up in. I was born under a house and that's where I lived my whole life until I went to a city shelter. No one was adopting me because I was just so shy. I wanted to go home but I didn't know how to tell the people that looked at me. So I was rescued and am living in a foster home to learn all the great things in the world - like love and treats and fun! I LOVE all dogs and when I am with them, I am happy and love to play with toys. So, a home with another dog that likes to run and play would be awesome! They ...     Buster is a male around 8-9 months old. He is mostly black with the white markings of a border collie. He is so sweet and very smart and very loving. He weights around 45 lbs and I think he'll probably gain another 10 or so pounds. He has had all his shots, is neutered and chipped. He is house trained and crate trained. He loves exploring in the yard, going on walks and then coming inside and hanging out with family. He was rescued out of the city pound in Waco and now needs his perfect home. He is special and deserves a loving home.

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-17-00173Bella (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

We found Bella when she was six weeks old and have had almost eight years. Her mother was pure bred border collie and the father was suspected to be German shorthair pointer mix. She is mostly white with redish tan patches. Her ears always get a lot of attention because she is capable of moving them in all directions. She is incredibly smart and did pick up on training commands and hand signals quickly. She is food driven when it comes it training and she loves stuffed ducks that make a real duck sound to retrieve. At dog parks and doggie daycare she is generally pleasant in her interactions with other dogs. She does have a bad habit of ... (Read More)jumping up on people when she firsts meets them. She was raised around cats so she expects that all cats are her friends. We have maintained her check ups and vaccines with the same veterinarian since the day we found her. She has had yearly teeth cleaning for the past three years. One molar has been pulled and another had a root canal because she cracked it chewing on a rock. She does not like to have her nails trimmed by us, but the vet tech never had an issue. She is fearful of thunder, fireworks, and other loud noises like constant hammering. The thunder shirt helped a little. But she still wanted to crawl in our laps and hide. We would prefer her to go to a home or rescue that can work on rehabbing her behavior. She needs a lot of activity. Someone who runs, hunts, or participates in dog competitions would probably enjoy her energy level and drive to please. She has done well on informal obstacle courses, she also likes to catch frisbees and balls from the air. The main issue we are having is that she is now showing signs of aggression towards the children. We have a three year old and one year old twins. We are unable to give her the time and attention she needs. Unfortunately we have failed her in this way and she has not adjusted well to the decrease in activity and spends most of her day separated from the family. She has in the past several years gone from muzzle punching our oldest when he was almost two years old, to growling at the twins through the baby gates, and most recently she nipped the arm of our boy twin. No skin was broken, and we understand it was a warning nip because he was too close to her food dish. But it has become apparent that she is unhappy and developing behaviors that need to be stopped immediately for her sake. As much as we wish we could keep her we do not have the time, energy, or finances to give her what she needs. And I would like to find her a home that she can get what she needs. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-10-00438Herminio (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I'm Herminio, I have a big name to match my big personality housed in a little 30 pound frame. To be honest, I like to think I am 10 pounds and find places to cuddle to reflect that notion. I tend to sit on top of the other dogs on the couch or in the dog beds as I really think I can squeeze in there with them and fit just right. I love Mom's lap, or her head or anywhere I can be hanging out with my humans. Mom says I suffer from a chronic condition-wagging smile emoticon My joy extends to the very tip of my tail, happy me! I love soft blankets to make a nest, antlers and tug toys. I really like all four dogs in the house but Mom says I have ... (Read More)a toddler's philosophy on sharing toys- what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too. Is that a problem? Apparently, I have to work on that. I love to go on walks and have excellent leash manners. I am also 100% accident free in the house, yay for me! I will work for food! I love food and will do anything you ask to get it. I mastered that 'sit' thing in under 10 minutes and will run into my crate for treats. Mom is so happy because I use my inside voice all of the time, not one bark. I am a confident and sweet boy, big crowds, thunder, construction...no worries. Cats....they are another story, I am a little scared of those guys. Please don't tell the big dogs, it's a secret. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

This guy has my respect. I pulled him from a high kill shelter in San Antonio, Texas. He was very emaciated and had a rear leg with a bone sticking out and broken in several places. Someone had abused him. But Scooter was still happy and loved to be held and his spirits had not been broken. He has been a trooper from day one, never making a sound even though he was in a lot of pain. His leg was so bad; the vet considered amputation but decided to watch the bones heal. And heal they did until he grew. Scooter now needs to have that back leg amputated before his adoption. His complete medical records and x-rays will come with him at the ... (Read More)time of adoption. Someone else named him early on but his name Scooter so deserves, he is a SCOOTER. He only barks when he is talking to you. He bounces around still like a puppy and just a very happy guy. He gets along with everyone. He runs and plays with his foster brothers and sisters and he is just a sweet dog. Scooter is 1 years old now; I got him when he was 2 months old. He weighs 47 pounds and has reached his adult height & weight. He has a beautiful black wavy coat and he does not shed. His best friend is Bradley, a bigger white border collie who only has 3 legs. Bradley was hit by a car but when he came to my house and Scooter was so small, Bradley treated Scooter as if he were his child. He cleaned him, cuddled with him and just watched over him like a mother would. It would be nice if they could go to a home together because Bradley is completely deaf and Scooter is his ears. Bradley is extremely friendly, loves to play, chases the ball and gets along with everyone. He loves his toys and belly rubs, Bradley is very gentle.     This crazy little boy Logan is a special one for me. His mother belonged to a family who could no longer care for them so I fed them and took care of them but they stayed with the family. Then the family tired of them and didn't want them around anymore. I got his mother spayed, his sister spayed and adopted into a wonderful home. When we reached the clinic for his surgery Logan just lost it. He was so afraid; the clinic asks me to bring him back at a later time. Well that trip spooked Logan and he would not let me touch him ever again. He ran to me when I showed up to feed him, he knew the sound of my car and he knew his name. Since ... (Read More)he was not neutered, he traveled the streets to get with any female in heat. I'm sure Logan has several kids out there :) One night Logan was experiencing some pleasure with one of his girlfriends (Ruby, also for adoption) when he was attacked by 2 vicious stray pit bulls who wanted Ruby for themselves. Logan had his testicles pulled right out by those pit bulls. So now Logan had no problem with me touching him and putting him in the car, he needed my help. His surgery went well, just a normal neutering as it turned out. He had some bite wounds on his legs but they healed well. Unfortunately Logan has heartworms and will need to have the 2 day treatment at the vet's office to get rid of them. After than Logan will be heartworm free and available for adoption. We are trying to raise funds for his surgery $400. Please consider donating towards his Heartworm treatment, no amount is too small we would very much appreciate it. You can donate on our website or directly to Callaghan Road Animal Hospital to Roxy's K-9 Rescue/Logan's Heartworm Treatment. (210) 647-1101 And of course if you would like to adopt Logan once his treatment is complete, please email me. Logan would love to have a home of his own so he can be spoiled even more. Logan came into my home as if he had always lived here, he loves some love. He is quiet, plays very well with my personal dogs and he LOVES his bed. I just laugh at him and tell him, he could have been living inside the life of luxury 2 years ago if he hadn't decided against being fixed!!!! I loved his entire family from the time I met them. His mother was extremely sweet and calm and he is just like her. Heartworms in NOT a death sentence, the dogs go on to live, happy, active, healthy lives.     Miss Poppy is a firecracker. She hops and bounces and just has fun playing in the wind. Always happy and loves to kiss & play, very adventurous, explorer and nosey!!! Poppy is 12 weeks old and born in my home. I rescued her mother while she was pregnant and she gave birth to a litter of 7 a week later. Poppy's mother (Ruby) and father (Logan) both can be seen on our website: roxysk9rescue.org Poppy is the only one left of her litter not adopted :( She is a typical puppy, she is doing well on her potty training but not completely there. She is crate trained and will scream to be let out to potty. She runs up & down the stairs, full ... (Read More)of energy. Poppy is not hyper, she is just happy and loves to play with kids and other foster dogs. She can be a bit independent but she still likes to be held and given some love. So she is content playing with her toys or chew rawhides and she is happy to play with you and cuddle with you but she is not under your feet all the time. She comes running as soon as I lose sight of her and call her name. You can see more pictures of Poppy on our website: roxysk9rescue.org (Less)

Border Collie    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Deaf

This is a very special guy who I felt compelled to save. I normally walk the kennels of a high kill shelter in San Antonio Texas and forward the pictures to the rescue groups of dogs that really need to be saved. Well I joked that this guy was so tired of being on the streets that he wouldn't wake up to talk to me. The next day I notice he had street rash on him from obviously being hit by a car and he was limping. So I felt since I was making fun of him I would save his life. I took him immediately to our vet only to learn that his leg has been crushed beyond repair and needed to be amputated. So Bradley is a tripod guy who has a ... (Read More)special place in my heart. He is a special guy, the vet informed me that he wasn't ignoring me, he was completely deaf. The day I picked him up from our vet's office he immediately made friends with his foster brothers and sisters, even stealing their toys in the first 2 minutes and trying to hop away on 3 legs! He took a special interest in Scooter who also had a leg injury but was 2 months old and very small. Bradley acted as if he were Scooter's mother or father, he cleaned him every day, would push him to the food bowl to eat first, play with him and when it would get cold outside and they were out there playing, Bradley would wrap his body around Scooter and make Scooter stay there and keep warm. He loves Scooter and Scooter serves as Bradley's' hearing dog. Bradley is a 2 year's old long haired Border Collie but he doesn't seem to shed, I've been watching closely. He is extremely friendly, loves playing with toys, playing fetch, tug of war and wrestling like a champ! He has no disability with only 3 legs. He climbs the stairs well. He would love to go on longer walks but that is the only thing, he tires easily of hopping. His deafness is also not a disability, he seems to be able to sense the presence of people, animals or anything in or yard or the neighbors yard that is not suppose to be there. Oh my, he loves his belly and head rubs. He just loves to be loves and always has a smile on his face. He is crate and potty trained and will lay by you very comfortable and content. He has no special needs or medications that he needs to be on. His medical records and x-rays will come with him at the time of adoption. Bradley weighs 53 pounds, he looks bigger than he actually is and his coat is very soft and smooth. And he likes baths. It would be wonderful if Bradley and Scooter were adopted together. Scooter is also posted our own website & you can see other pictures of BRADLEY. www.roxysk9rescue.org (Less)

We took both in with our own three dogs and have tried to find homes for them. Lady has her shots and tags and was spayed in September 2015. Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Foxy is a sweet approx 2 yr old Border Collie mix who was dumped on the mean streets of Houston's South Side. She ended up with a raging case of sarcoptic mange and heartworms. We rescued her, are treating both conditions, (mange is completely gone) and found that she is the absolute sweetest dog! She is house trained, fully vetted and microchipped. She is a quiet yet watchful little dog, very protectful of her home and family (i.e. barking at passersby, etc.) Weighs about 40 lbs and shouldn't get much bigger. She is a long haired dog, her fur fell out when she got sarcoptic mange but mange is cleared it has grown back nicely. (her fur is ... (Read More)even LONGER now than in this photo...) She has a beautiful thick, long, wavy black brindle coat. She is a dainty girl and loves cuddles. She is still learning the leash and getting the hang of domestic pethood, and is still wary of strangers but warms up pretty quickly. While she DOES get along with other dogs, she is slow with the meeting/accepting process at first. She tends to play a tad rough and is likely an alpha. She may become more social in the future as her personality blossoms. I would also put a child stipulation on Foxy of 10+, simply because she is uncomfortable with people in her face. She needs to have some experience with children or different experiences before I would lift that stipulation, but she is really getting more and more affectionate with people more and more each day. I believe she was mistreated by people when she was living on the streets :( Our online adoption application: https://fs22.formsite.com/SSSD/form2/index.html Foxy is also in need of a long-term foster (i.e., until she gets adopted) please contact us to inquire. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brie: 10 Months; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Active Companion; B/W Rough Coated Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Were you looking for a pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than ... (Read More)just playing in the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Texas
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
