Rescue Me ID: 15-07-03-00213Karlie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed

Karlie is an extremely sweet dog, but doesn't get along with our older Border Collie very well. She is great with our 8 and 10 year old girls as well as my husband and myself. We got her back in January wanting a younger dog (but not a puppy) to help keep our other dog going. We knew Katie, the dog we already had, would be protective a first- but hoped she would come around. Neither of the dogs have taken a liking to each other 6 months later. The lady we got Karlie from says she is a Border Collie mix, but I honestly don't know what she is. She seems to have a lot of things going on there. If we don't find her a good home in the next week ... (Read More)or two we are going to have to take her to our local shelter. I really hate to do that but we have been trying to find a home for a few weeks now with no luck. She is really sweet and her and our youngest daughter have really bonded, so we are really sad to have to get rid of her. But it is a must. Katie was here first and just can't seem to get along with this new addition. (Less)

Animal ID: 15947Lucy (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Sweet Lucy #15947 bonded immediately with the GAP girls today. She loves to give kisses, and the girls described her as 'motherly' to the other little dogs, although she appears to be only between one to two years old herself. She loves to give kisses, and definitely deserves lots of TLC after what she has been through in her young life. Lucy was found in an abandoned house with no water or electricity. She came into the shelter with a little Dachshund, Shadie, who was found in the same house. Lucy appears to be a border collie mix and weighs around 40 pounds. She is a gorgeous dog, and has border collie type hair and is the size of a ... (Read More)border collie. She also appears to be house-trained, and is one smart girl! Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Jasmine is a sweet, calm and gentle dog; the kind of dog that too often gets overlooked at the shelter. In fact, she was only minutes away from being taken to the back for euthanasia when her gentle spirit caught my eye and we were able to tag her for rescue and save her life. When I picked her up at the shelter after the spay surgery, the clinic staff said she was the sweetest dog they had seen that day. Definitely a life worth saving! Once home, we could tell that humans had treated her unkindly in the past. However, she has moved on from that and now warmly greets not only us but also strangers. She does not have a mean bone in her body. ... (Read More)She is so kind and gentle with our young children and elderly toy dogs. She is doing great with housetraining, no accidents thus far. Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Picked up by Animal Control, Marilyn and her five puppies were hanging out in a kennel and trying to figure out what exactly they had to do to get out of there. Marilyn was shy and her pups were so small, there was no way they could do well on their own, so they had to rely on someone to save them. One of our staff just happened to be there and saw Marilyn's sweet face and her fluffy pups. Into the car they went! Now the pups have doubled in size and are ready to start finding their own homes, while Marilyn is ready to be a single woman and not just a mom- five kids has been rough but she toughed it out and is ready to get a family of her ... (Read More)own too! Of all the pups in the litter, Jeane is the first pup to come running when you walk up, and she'll be the first to crawl in any open lap she can find. She loves affection and will do anything she can to get attention. She can be a mischievous pup in that sense because when you leave her alone she'll crawl over, under, or around whatever she has to do get to you! Jeane loves to rough and tumble with her siblings. If they're playing King of the Hill, she's going to give it her best shot and will win some of the time. She hasn't started working on her house training just yet but she's a smart girl and will pick it up. She's just going to need a family who will help her learn a schedule. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed

Foxy is a sweet 16-24 month old Chow x Border Collie mix who was dumped on the mean streets of Houston's South Side. She ended up with a raging case of sarcoptic mange and heartworms. We rescued her, are treating both conditions, and found that she is the absolute sweetest dog! She is house trained, will be fully vetted and microchipped at the time of adoption. We believe she may already be spayed as we have had our sights on her for over 9 months and she has never gone into heat. She is a quiet yet watchful little dog. Weighs about 35 lbs and shouldn't get much bigger. She is a long haired dog, her fur fell out when she got sarcoptic mange ... (Read More)but mange is cleared it is growing back nicely. She has a beautiful black brindle coat. She is a dainty girl and loves cuddles. She is still learning the leash and getting the hang of domestic pethood, so she will need a little patience.     Hi! My name is Arnie. I came to Texas Collie and Sheltie Rescue by way of a shelter. They were told I was a Collie mix and were kind enough to take me in. But, I have to be honest I'm more of a Border Collie mix. Just a young boy of about a year'| full of energy and playfulness. But I am a special boy. I have a hereditary disease called color dilution alopecia. Don't be scared! It just means I have a little bit less hair in some places than I do I do in others. The up side is I am a very friendly guy who loves attention and more importantly tummy rubs! Those are my absolute favorite! Other dogs and humans like me. So no problems ... (Read More)there. I'm also house-trained and crate-trained. And I've been working on learning how to sit. I would love to be the only dog in your family getting all the attention, but if you have an in-house pup I would like that too. I'm available to meet once you fill out an application at www.texascollierescue.org. Give me the chance and I will be your constant and faithful companion! Hope to hear from you soon! Arnie Arnie is a sweet, sweet boy that just wants to be loved and petted. He does have color dilution alopecia which is also called color mutant alopecia. It does not affect all of the hair on his body. It is a hereditary disease of which there is no cure. His hair is sparse in some places on his torso and his head. He is young and full of energy and would need to be kept active. But, he loves attention and probably has had very little of it so far in his young life. Please give this boy a chance. He deserves a loving forever home. (Less)

We have a stray with 4 puppies that has taken residence at our office. We are trying to determine what to do with them. We really don't want them to go to a kill shelter, which seem to be the only places that will pick up. she is aggressive when around the puppies (understandable), which are under our stairs at the office, so she is barking at everyone that walks in. When she wanders away and you see her on the street, she is very sweet. We are looking for suggestions to find a place to take/rescue these pups and mom.

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-15-00009Bailey (male)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bailey: 4 yrs; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Rough Coat Border Collie; Weight: 49 lbs. An email was sent out 'Free Border Collie Please Take Him', thankfully the owners of his half-brother had enough faith in themselves and their BC to dive in head first and save Bailey. He is on to his next journey in life and has become a confident pup no longer allowed to run loose on a golf course with his mind all a blur-now he does tricks, loves taking walks especially trail walks, plays with toys inside and enjoys as much attention from all the people he meets. What we know about Bailey is that he was missing that human ... (Read More)interaction at some point in his life his male owner took his own life and things must have been very shaky before. He is quite comfortable having all of the attention paid to him but has learned to wait and work for things in the home so he earns the love and affection. Bailey waits for his meals now, knows sit and down, plays hide and seek with his people, likes learning about squeaky toys and ball play inside the home; has learned the 'look at me' for focus inside the home and on leash. All of the tricks he is learning has helped build his confidence that he can also transfer when he is on leash. Bailey is available for Foster to Adopt/Adoptive home as he does enjoy his daily walks, he does not need jogging or anything extensive but would enjoy being with his person doing so. He is best suited in a home as an only dog however he has one BC friend in this rescue group, his integration in a home with another dog would be best suited for a nonchalant companion that share the affection of their owners and would like to play a little with him maybe just snuggle on the bed. He is still healing from some nervousness of the new and exposing him on walks to different places is really helping him. Bailey has such a unique physique with his long legs and longer back and we see huge strides in his muscle and physique by adding a raw diet of meat and veggies to his kibble. Bailey would do great on a ranch interacting with his human, a suburb would work out swell for him, we think he would also enjoy road trips and camping. Having a fence is mandatory for Bailey, children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; an excited human partner to share his life with and continue on his recovery path; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch) would be great for him. Bailey's fully vetted, crate and house trained walks nicely on the leash. His adoption donation is $275 there is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-14-00621Winston (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Winston: 2.5 yr; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Smooth Short Haired Coat; Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Winston was a lost soul loose in Alief Houston just darting between a few streets wondering what happened to him and where did his people go. It took a team of kind Samaritans one month to earn his trust and follow them into a large fenced area so he could be rescued! Yes trust for Winston is HUGE, he does best in an apartment or condo, he prefers this living to a large house and yard. This young boy has a story that has left behind scaring on his hind legs most likely from a stake in the ground and ... (Read More)rope as he was a growing pup he must have twisted himself so badly creating these scares. Winston is now a very healthy strong boy who acts like a puppy that doesn't want to be an outside dog anymore he is actually quite happy tossing toys in the air in his fosters apartment and coming over for a kiss while she is studying; cuddling up with his BC foster sibling; his daily walks and even some light jogging; and has learned how to relax for car rides. He has totally overcome fears of when his foster mom or roommate lift their feet they are not going to kick him or push him and the same is true for any reaching of their arms or body movement. Winston has only been in Austin TX foster care for just a few months, he really has enjoyed the trust and teaching of touch and human movements from his foster; he no longer tries to flea on the leash and can walk gently now; likes to play with dogs; he can be nervous/fearful with new people and is continuing to be introduced to strangers who come to visit and take him for a walks as well. Overall this boy is gently moving forward in life awaiting his Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home. Winston is looking for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home that can continue this trust in the home and with people. We are uncertain of his recall for a doggie park and will be starting to evaluate that and train for fun and safety. An ideal home for Winston is an apartment or condo; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); children 8 and up that are gentle and appreciate a soft pup; daily walks and toy time inside the home and he is a happy pup! He is house trained, leash trained, prefers the floor to a crate. Winston's adoption donation is $275, there is an application to fill out and home visit if applicable. (Less)

Border Collie    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mindi: 1 yr; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Companion; Tri Colored Gold Rough Coat Border Collie; Weight 40 lbs. Lovely Mindi was found running on a very busy state Hwy in Houston TX and thankfully she stopped long enough to be rescued. She has an interesting history originally belonging to a rancher whom she followed everywhere but she would also run on the unfenced property and visit other neighbors and then was adopted to a man who owned a junk yard as a guard dog. Mindi has no guarding or barking in her nature not even when her other foster Border Collie's sense a deer near their property she is just a casual gal who LOVES the outdoors, ... (Read More)discovering that she does like a few toys (soccer ball/Frisbee/tug toys) with her foster mom's engaging nature brining this out in her, enjoys her casual walks and likes to be inside joining her foster siblings and her family. Now don't expect any tricks from Mindi except her favorite roll over belly rub and hugs she has even leaped onto her foster mom's lap after a fun day running with her foster pack. Mindi can be an only dog or with a stimulating pup partner she has learned so much more in life and in herself. We have found that she will do best in a home where someone works from home or is home most of the day as she LOVES to be outside and being cooped up inside won't work for this beautiful Border Collie. Mindi would be up for some light hiking, daily walks even large pack walks she enjoys, she is a little reserved with new people but she loves everyone she meets you really can't ask for a better dog. She must have a fenced in property and children that are gentle preferably over 8, she can live in an interactive suburban home or a ranch setting as long as she has her treasured time with her humans. Mindi's adoption donation is $275, she is fully vetted, house trained and does not need a crate of course there is an application to adopt and home visit if applicable. (Less)

He loves to play, and is very curious about cats, but backs off as soon as the cat comes toward him. He is crate-trained, and well on his way to being potty trained.     Snoopy is a 3yo border collie x blue heeler mix. He LOVES people, and very much wants to please his handler. He always has a smile on his face, and loves playing with his toys. He definitely comes from working dog lineage, as he has a VERY high herding drive. Without better training, I would not recommend him for a home with livestock. He tolerates my other dogs of all shapes and sizes, but he would be most happy not having to share his person with another dog. He is treat motivated, and has a very soft mouth. We takes treats very gently from your hand. He is extremely quiet, I have only heard him bark on one occasion, we have been ... (Read More)fostering him for almost three months. I bring him to work with me during the day, and he is very mellow. He has a medium energy level for a working dog, and LOVES his daily walks. He weighs about 35lbs, and is just a really great dog. He needs an owner that understands the intelligence and the non stop thinking that the working breeds are known for. This dog is a wonderful dog, but like all working breeds, he needs a strong leader that will set boundaries for him. His favorite thing in life is pleasing his handler. He learns VERY quickly.     Hi folks.. my foster mommy calls me issy which is short for isadora tutu. My first people took me to the pound and my foster mommy came and picked me up. My foster mommy says I am a very good girl because I know to potty outside...she always brushes me and that makes me very happy. Almost as happy as belly rubs. I sit when she tells me and that earns me treats. My foster mommy is sad because she thinks people don't like black dogs! She thinks I am beautiful ... (Read More)and tells me so. I will never have puppies because my rescue and foster mommy want me to be healthy and happy. They also gave me shots to make sure I am healthy. I love other dogs. I love cats too... sometimes kids come play with me and I can catch balls but I keep them. I can learn though. I love my foster mommy and the other foster kids at her house but I really would love to have my own family. Would you love me? I would love you.. I have lots of kisses to give...     We need to rehome our two year old Borador (Border Collie/Lab) sisters. They turned 2 years old in March of this year. Their father was a full blood Border Collie and their mom was a full blood black Labrador. They are incredibly sweet and smart dogs, but we are no longer able to keep them with us. They weigh approximately 60 pounds each. They are both completely house trained and crate trained. They currently have a dog run where they know to use the bathroom, and do not go in the house or the yard. They are both spayed. Their names are Fiona (also answers to Fee) and Scarlet. They have been around young children since they were 5 ... (Read More)weeks old and love kids. They will snuggle as well as play with kids. They love to go on walks, play fetch, and go swimming at the dog park or lake. They get along with each other and the other dogs they've been around at the dog parks and friends' homes. We are asking for a $40 rehoming/adoption fee that will cover the dogs, their large kennel (they sleep together and have plenty of room to move around in the kennel), their large dog bed, leashes, collars, dog bowls, toys. We must find them a new home by June 20th. We prefer to keep them together, but if you are interested in one of them feel free to contact us. Please let me know if you have any questions. (Less)

Felix is working on his potty training but he is just a baby! His foster does not think he will be very big when fully grown. He is weighing in at 9 pounds right now.     1-2 year old sheltie mix (maybe border mix?) Very affectionate, but also very high energy. He needs lots of running room, lots of attention, and some vetting. He was found dumped in the southeast area of Montgomery County. We don't want to have to take him to the shelter, but he's too aggressive (not mean, but playful) with my 3 small dogs. I am fostering him, but can't keep him much longer as my old, blind shih tzu (and my little girl shih tzu), have begun hiding from him.

JJ is 3-5 years old 70 pounds, completely house trained, very gentle and loving. Gets along with other dogs after being properly introduced and older kids. She is a little skittish around strangers but warms up when she gets to know you. Loves to go for walks, be brushed and just hang out at your feet if you're having a chill day. Will come and ask nicely for love. Is very patient and kind. Not an outgoing and super social dog, prefers to be with her people at home or on a walk. Probably wouldn't do well at the dog park. she's being fostered in Denton Texas near Ft Worth.

Pictures taken 5/18/15. Addison was found dumped on our road on 4/18/15 starving, missing hair on her face, legs, and parts of her body, and weighing 13.2 pounds. I had no place to put her, so a neighbor let me put her in a fenced area she has at her house. I went down every 3 days or so to put Nu Stock on her, and in one month she had all her hair back. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and now weighs 24.8 pounds. I brought her to my house on 5/18/15. She loves to play with the other dogs here, and loves attention from people.     For adoption information, please contact Stephanie Bacchi, Bullard, TX, 903/343-4364, or e-mail stephbny1@aol.com. Mollie is a courtesy posting, first posted on 1/7/14, and re-posted on 3/27/15. The mother of this puppy and two siblings was picked up by Smith County Animal Control, and was pulled out before getting euthanized. Mollie was adopted for about 10 months, and then she was returned around November 2014, due to the family moving. Mollie is spayed, current on vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, and is house trained. She is all White with some cream colored markings. Mollie is an inside dog, goes outside to potty and have ... (Read More)supervised play time, and must go to a home that will provide the same environment she is used to. Mollie needs a home that will be willing to continue to work on her manners and help set boundaries, and a home where she will be either an only dog or another dog her size as she can be rather rambunctious and likes to play a lot (She has been around dogs and cats, and will chase the cats as well, but hasn't hurt them.), so she may not be good around small children due to her energy level, but is good around older children. Mollie will chase goats/livestock on a fence line at first, but once she gets used to them being there, she will leave them alone (we have 2 miniature goats here). She loves her people, wants to be right there beside them, and will crawl up in your lap if given the chance. She is an active dog, so please keep that in mind when considering Mollie. There will be a home check done, and an adoption application to be filled out with a vet reference that will be checked. Mollie was born October 31, 2014, and weighs 49.5 pounds. (Less)

Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction (Less)

ARNT has had Patch and his mom since early April 2014. They were surrendered by their owner because they kept escaping from the yard and she could not afford to secure the fence so that they would not continue to escape. We believe him to be a border collie-corgi or dachshund mix, about 2 years old and weighs approximately 28 lbs. Patch was an outside dog and we have not had a chance to test his 'house training skills' however he does very well in a crate. Once the questionnaire is reviewed and looks like a good match, we can schedule a meet and greet for you to interact with him on a personal level.re able to locate their owner. Both dogs were micro chipped and we were able to locate their owner. She surrendered them to us because they kept escaping from the yard and chased the neighbors chickens and was fearful they are the ones who took them and dropped them off where we found them and might do it again. Patch is current on vaccinations, neutered and is now on monthly heart worm prevention. He stays in an outdoor kennel along with Princess on a lady's property who lives on the road where we picked them up so we have not had a chanced to test his 'house training skills'. He is super sweet as well as cute and one of his favorite things to do is roll around in the grass. We learned that there were children in his former home so know he is good with kids as well as adults. He is a moderate barker but not an aggressive one. His adoption fee is $150 which is a lot less than the money we have invested for his heart worm treatment and vaccinations. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Texas
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
