I had never been in a house before and was pretty deprived of food and love before CARE rescued me.I am loving my foster home. I am crate trained, house broken and very smart! My foster mom says I know right from wrong and have very nice manners for a young guy. I love riding in the car and ... Rescue Me ID: 15-02-27-00129Colin (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Surrendered to Animal Care Services, Colin didn't have a chance to get to know his family. They were allergic and couldn't have him around, so he'd been living outside and so they brought him in. We couldn't take our eyes off of this silly and playful pup, so off to SNIPSA he went. A little shy at first, Colin warmed up pretty quickly, especially when the kids of his foster family showed up. Now it's just a matter of finding the home that will keep him forever! At first glance Colin is not only a handsome guy, but he's also quiet. He'll sit in the back of his kennel as if life were just so unfair. Then suddenly a toy appears and out of ... (Read More)nowhere there's Colin! He loves to play and will chase toys and run around until his legs can't take it anymore. He's working on his house training and crate training, but doesn't seem to mind his crate too much. He's also got the leash thing down and loves to go for walks although sometimes really loud sounds can scare him a little. Colin is going to be a bigger guy when he's fully grown so he'll need a little space where he can burn off all of his energy, but for an active family or a family who has a buddy for him, Colin will be an awesome new family member! If you'd like to meet this goofy guy, fill out your application for Colin today! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-24-00327Ebony (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

**COURTESY POST** Pretty, silky Ebony is one of two remaining foster dogs from a litter of nine born October 5, 2011, to a sweet black Lab found extremely pregnant; her mom was adopted within months of weaning her pups. We believe Ebony's daddy is probably a border collie. Ebony weighs around 65-70 pounds, and is very playful and active; of all her litter-mates, she most looks like her mother. She enjoys tug-a-war and chasing her playmates around the yard in a game of tag; if skirmishes break out in the pack, Ebony steps in as peacekeeper. She does have storm anxiety and needs to be close to her humans as storms approach; she calms next to ... (Read More)you. She also loves to snuggle during quiet times, too. Ebony is leash and crate trained, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, heartworm free, and microchipped. She also does well with children; small children and large dogs typically don't match well. Ebony will do best with the company of another dog in a home with a secure fenced yard. Is your family and home the right match for this sweet girl? If you are interested in providing a loving home to this pet please complete the L.A.P. application http://www.laprescue.org/adoption-application.html or email us at LapRescue@gmail.com Local area adoptions only. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

My girlfriend and I are looking for a good home for our awesome dog. He is just over a year old and NOT fixed. He is a very high energy dog so fixing him would probably be a good thing, however, we both don't have time nor the space for him anymore and need some time without him to figure out a good thing for him. What we would really like: While we get our situation figured out and continue on, we want to be able to see him from time to time and check in on him and potentially get him back a few months down the road. This is of course an IDEAL situation and we can speak about it when we meet and as time goes on. We would love to see him ... (Read More)somewhere with a good sized yard, maybe even a house with another dog for companionship. He does need some solid attention and play-time/exercise. Could be a good dog for the Spring/Summer for kids. He is a very sweet dog and only wants to play and have fun. Can be mischievous at times, but all pets can be of course. Doesn't bite or scratch, barks when he feels threatened but warms up to everyone very well. Loves to be outdoors and falls asleep quickly when inside. Tends to be extra calm around children and younger kids, he seems to be curious to their size and height compared to him. As stated, I would like to have the option to get him again and be able to check in on him. He is our first dog together and we think of him as our child and want the best for him. He truly is a great dog and pet and friend and we will certainly miss him. Time is of the essence, we need to find something by March 1st so if interested please contact me ASAP and we can set up a meeting this week. Thank you for your interest and time. (Less)

Brie: 10 Months; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Active Companion; B/W Rough Coated Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 34 lbs. Were you looking for a herder that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than just ... (Read More)playing in the yard and she deserves it! She is just like any other herder that loves balls, strong desire to retrieve and run and herd her pack mates, swim even at quiet hours at the dog park, jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat, loves to ride in the car however her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we cross the street before-hand and may make a U-turn in a drive way for tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time as we moved along the walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done' all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a slight distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment for her. Brie can handle some activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her' and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being possibly injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation of trust and understanding, sounds they experienced inside the home and outside, fears and movement to unknown variables in the world. Brie and her sister did move to my house at 4 months of age. . This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors to enjoy her wonderful family and nature; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with and enjoy. Brie's adoption donation is $250. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction.     Storm is a year and a half old Border Collie that I took in as a foster until the dog rescue could take him. He was adopted out but was brought back because his needs were more then they could handle and the adoption organization is not wanting him and not helping. He is not aggressive toward my four other dogs...two cocker spaniels one male and one female, and two male border collies but he does play rough and needs to be supervised. He is treat motivated and has learned to sit, stay, down, shake, play dead, say hi,look back and bows. He is food aggressive so I feed him by himself..once he is done he has no problem. He can get to possessive ... (Read More)of a toy with other dogs so I play with him alone when there is a toy involved. I have not started him in agility but I do believe he would be awesome in that sport. I have had him introduced to herding and he needs a lot of training with a long line...the herding trainer has worked him off the long line. He has a lot of drive to herd. He is current on all his shots, has been neutered. He would make a great companion for a jogger who will keep him on leash while in training...I believe the sky in the limit for any sports with this young man. No small kids and any kid that feeds him needs to walk away while he eats or just crate him while he eats. He has never spent a night outside and does well lying on the rug at night in the same room I am in. He is crate trained, to this date he will not dart out of the crate when opening. I would crate him in a vehicle. He is a sweet young guy who still needs a lot of training. (Less)

Barry is a very sweet adorable boy who is estimated to have been born around 01/2013 and weighs a nice size of approximately 32 lbs. We believe he is an Australian shepherd/Border Collie mix and is full of love. When we first rescued him it appeared he had never been in a home environment and was very scared and cautious at first. He is adapting well and learning house rules. He is a little timid of new things, but with love and encouragement, he adjusts accordingly with some time. He has some puppy-like behaviors (chewing) since no one took the time to train him. He is great with kids and is learning how to play ball and Frisbee and he ... (Read More)loves it. He has had no prior training, but he is a very quick learner and has already learned how to sit and walk on a leash. He is working on crate training and housetraining and is almost there! He will do best in a home where he gets training, daily exercise, interaction, and lots of love, of course! Rescue Me ID: 15-01-31-00477Layla (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

COURTESY POST: We have our three year Chihuahua who is VERY territorial. I adopted Layla when she was 8 wks old. At that time, my Chihuahua was fine with her. But now that she is 8 months old, she is massive in size and my little one refuses to play with her. She is very smart and loves to run and fetch ect. I thought I would have the time I need to work with her, but with all my back to back operations, I haven't had the opportunity to spend the time with her that she deserves. She does well with other dogs and loves kids, but she gets over excited and likes to jump on my 6 year old. She is way too big for him to play with so she really ... (Read More)needs to be with older kids or an adult, or even with someone who can teach her not to jump on people. I think if she had someone who had time to work with her, she would do just fine. Unfortunately I can't physically be out there with her training her otherwise. We live out in Bushland and have five acres she loves it! I think she would do great on a ranch type setting. She really is a good dog, she just needs some more training. The other reason, we have been discussing the idea of hosting outdoor weddings and events in the future and hubby says he can't have a dog this size in our back yard in order to do that. I adopted her from the humane society when she was 8 wks old. She was scheduled to be euthanized the next day and I had to save her! So she has all of her shots, microchip, and has been fixed. I've done all I can to convince my husband to let her stay here, but to be fair to her, He says she needs to be with another dog her size, or with someone who can take her out to work and let her run and do her thing. She is about 8 months old, so I think if the right person took her in and worked with her some more, she would do great. If interested call her owner at (806)433-6086 (Less)

I am a very smart girl just looking for something to learn all of the time. Could you be the one who teaches me about all of the good things in life?

Jessie was adopted and returned through no fault of her own. Her owner was just going through too hard of a time and could not take proper care of our sweet Jessie. So here she is, back in our rescue and ready for her real forever home. She is great with little dogs but is very fearful of bigger dogs, especially bigger than her. She has a bit of a prey drive so kitties, squirrels, rabbits are lot's of fun for Jessie. She could be about 7-8 but you would never know it. She has tons of spunk, loves to run and play but can also chill with you, on the couch while watching tv. She is a cuddle bug and also really loves getting her ears scratched. ... (Read More)She had heartworm and was treated with a slow kill method, which was better for her low positive result, so she will definitely need to be on Heartgard or something comparable, for the rest of her life. All dogs, especially in the south, should be on heartgard anyway, because the mosquito population is so strong here. Jessie is ready to go home now. She would love someone active who wants to take her on walks, she likes sit for treats and will literally cuddle all day long. Do you have room in your home for a sweet girl?     ARNT has had Princess and her son Patch since early April. They were found wandering a road where dogs are dumped on a regular basis. We believe her to be a border collie- dachshund or corgi mix, about 2-3 years old and she weighs approximately 28 lbs. Both dogs were micro chipped and we were able to locate their owner. She surrendered them to us because they kept escaping from the yard and chased the neighbors chickens and was fearful they are the ones who took them and dropped them off where we found them. Princess stays in an outdoor kennel along with Patch on a lady's property who lives on the road where we picked them up so we have ... (Read More)not had a chanced to test her 'house training skills'. She is super sweet as well as cute and her favorite thing to do is roll around in the grass. We learned that there were children in her former home so know she is good with kids as well as adults. She is a moderate barker but not an aggressive one. Her adoption fee is $200 and a home visit is part of her adoption process to insure there is a secure fence around the home, therefore she is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only. If you think she might be a good match for your household, please email us for a pre adoption questionnaire which is the first step in the adoption process. Once the questionnaire is reviewed and looks like a good match, we can schedule a meet and greet for you to interact with her on a personal level. (Less)

Meet Spot! He is looking for that special home that can appreciate and accommodate him. Spot is a clever boy! He would be, considering he is a Border Collie mix! You can see Spot's intelligence in his eyes! The intense gaze that Border Collies give the object of their attention is called the Border Collie Stare, and Spot has a pretty good handle on it. He is house trained. Border Collies are the most wonderful dogs. They are fascinating, fun, energetic, and they don't mind kicking back with the family! Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bailey is a 9 1/2 year old Border Collie mix, originally rescued from a shelter. She loves other dogs, running and playing. She is very sweet, not at all aggressive, but she is incredibly anxious and has displayed some fear-based nipping tendencies with kids and adults when 'defending' her space; therefore, she cannot be in a home with children, and would benefit most from someone with experience with herding dogs. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations, very healthy, crate- and house-trained and knows commands to 'come', 'sit', 'touch', 'go' to her 'house' (crate) and lay herself down. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Texas
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
