Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hero was adopted from Animal Care Services when he was just a pup many years ago. His family loved him but didn't keep up with his monthly medications. Poor guy was surrendered to Animal Care Services once again and it was discovered he had heartworms. SNIPSA treated his heartworms and he is doing quite well. If you are looking for an easy dog- Hero is a good candidate. He is well behaved in the yard, loves to lay on the kitchen floor, and just chill in the house. He loves to hang out in the yard and is not a big barker. Hero also sleeps beautifully in his crate at night. He is great with children and especially appreciates the petting he ... Rescue Me ID: 15-07-31-00542Harlow (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Harlow and her sister, Kahlua, recently found themselves at the shelter when their owner turned them in because they were an 'unwanted pregnancy.' That was a sad day for Harlow and Kahlua until K-9 Angels stepped up and saved them. This was also made possible by generous fosters that opened up their homes to these beautiful girls. We know that their mom is a 'purebred Chocolate lab' and we think their dad was a Border Collie. Whatever breed her dad is Harlow is super cute. Harlow is enjoying her foster home and having a couple of foster fursiblings to play with. Harlow is very new to our program so we will continue to update her bio as we ... (Read More)get to know her. We believe Harlow is a lab/Border Collie mix and is only about 6-8 weeks old. Harlow will not be at the adoption center until she has had her second set of shots. If you are interested in adopting Harlow (or any of our pups) an application is required. The application can be found on our website through this link http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/adoption_process_k-9_angels_rescue.html PUPPIES: Young puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application, and if approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted. OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come get the dog and bring them home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. However, we only adopt young puppies locally, due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vaccinated. NOTE: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership, K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted and altered.     Maci Grace and her sister, Dixie Rae, recently found themselves abandoned at the shelter without their momma.     ABOUT THIS DOG He's an awesome dog. He'll be great with your children. No Border Collie is a house dog, but this dog is house-trained. He sits, shakes, lays down, rolls over, fetches, plays basketball, and heels (ok, on a leash). He is very submissive to his owners but like any Border Collie, he will herd children, and may knock over little children. He will behave as a WATCHDOG to people and dogs he doesn't know. Like any Border Collie, he has HIGH ENERGY! He has perfect Border Collie markings but you can see some other breed (Lab we think) in his face. He has a nice name. He's neutered and has current shots & chip. He's about 15 ... (Read More)months old. There are more pictures in this Craigslist ad: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pet/5124869808.html This is not a dog-dump. We will make sure that you and the dog are right for each other. A re-homing fee will apply. Thanks Email me ABOUT BORDER COLLIES A Border Collie is not a dog to leave alone while you stay away at work or school. He's a highly-intelligent work animal designed to work with his owner. The Border Collie is the most intelligent breed, but he has special needs. Border Collies have incredibly high energy. He NEEDS a job, like herding cattle or sheep. You MUST have acreage and good, complete FENCES - a farm would be best. Border Collies need frequent loving attention. He needs all-day companionship from you, your nice children, and/or other animals. All border Collies need tenderness. Border Collies are very emotionally sensitive. Border Collies cannot take any abuse. (Less)

One, two, three, four- these pups aren't homeless anymore! Five, six, seven, eight- the right home means they'll do just great! Glory, Leelee, Jolie, and Herbie were picked up as a pack by Animal Care Services. It was obvious they'd been on their own for awhile- they were thin and looked a little rough. Surprisingly, all it took was a few good meals and they looked like brand new pups! Now they're set and ready to become your newest family member! While she might be the smallest of the litter, Glory is certainly the most savvy. While her siblings are all running about, Glory is keeping her eye on the world and making sure things are smooth. ... (Read More)She's a laid back lady who would rather stay on the sidelines than get in the game. Glory has oldest child written all over, even if she is considered 'the runt'. When she's grown up, she'll most likely be a medium sized girl, so she'll need a little bit of space, but she doesn't ask for much. She is working on her house training and crate training, along with her leash walking, but she's a smart little girl who is going to go far.     Karlie is an extremely sweet dog, but doesn't get along with our older Border Collie very well. She is great with our 8 and 10 year old girls as well as my husband and myself. We got her back in January wanting a younger dog (but not a puppy) to help keep our other dog going. We knew Katie, the dog we already had, would be protective a first- but hoped she would come around. Neither of the dogs have taken a liking to each other 6 months later. The lady we got Karlie from says she is a Border Collie mix, but I honestly don't know what she is. She seems to have a lot of things going on there. If we don't find her a good home in the next week ... (Read More)or two we are going to have to take her to our local shelter. I really hate to do that but we have been trying to find a home for a few weeks now with no luck. She is really sweet and her and our youngest daughter have really bonded, so we are really sad to have to get rid of her. But it is a must. Katie was here first and just can't seem to get along with this new addition. (Less)

Foxy is a sweet 16-24 month old Chow x Border Collie mix who was dumped on the mean streets of Houston's South Side. She ended up with a raging case of sarcoptic mange and heartworms.     Hi! My name is Arnie. I came to Texas Collie and Sheltie Rescue by way of a shelter. They were told I was a Collie mix and were kind enough to take me in. But, I have to be honest I'm more of a Border Collie mix. Just a young boy of about a year'| full of energy and playfulness. But I am a special boy. I have a hereditary disease called color dilution alopecia. Don't be scared! It just means I have a little bit less hair in some places than I do I do in others. The up side is I am a very friendly guy who loves attention and more importantly tummy rubs! Those are my absolute favorite! Other dogs and humans like me. So no problems ... (Read More)there. I'm also house-trained and crate-trained. And I've been working on learning how to sit. I would love to be the only dog in your family getting all the attention, but if you have an in-house pup I would like that too. I'm available to meet once you fill out an application at www.texascollierescue.org. Give me the chance and I will be your constant and faithful companion! Hope to hear from you soon! Arnie Arnie is a sweet, sweet boy that just wants to be loved and petted. He does have color dilution alopecia which is also called color mutant alopecia. It does not affect all of the hair on his body. It is a hereditary disease of which there is no cure. His hair is sparse in some places on his torso and his head. He is young and full of energy and would need to be kept active. But, he loves attention and probably has had very little of it so far in his young life. Please give this boy a chance. He deserves a loving forever home. (Less)

We have a stray with 4 puppies that has taken residence at our office. We are trying to determine what to do with them. We really don't want them to go to a kill shelter, which seem to be the only places that will pick up. she is aggressive when around the puppies (understandable), which are under our stairs at the office, so she is barking at everyone that walks in. When she wanders away and you see her on the street, she is very sweet. We are looking for suggestions to find a place to take/rescue these pups and mom.

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bailey: 4 yrs; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Rough Coat Border Collie; Weight: 49 lbs. An email was sent out 'Free Border Collie Please Take Him', thankfully the owners of his half-brother had enough faith in themselves and their BC to dive in head first and save Bailey. He is on to his next journey in life and has become a confident pup no longer allowed to run loose on a golf course with his mind all a blur-now he does tricks, loves taking walks especially trail walks, plays with toys inside and enjoys as much attention from all the people he meets. What we know about Bailey is that he was missing that human ... (Read More)interaction at some point in his life his male owner took his own life and things must have been very shaky before. He is quite comfortable having all of the attention paid to him but has learned to wait and work for things in the home so he earns the love and affection. Bailey waits for his meals now, knows sit and down, plays hide and seek with his people, likes learning about squeaky toys and ball play inside the home; has learned the 'look at me' for focus inside the home and on leash. All of the tricks he is learning has helped build his confidence that he can also transfer when he is on leash. Bailey is available for Foster to Adopt/Adoptive home as he does enjoy his daily walks, he does not need jogging or anything extensive but would enjoy being with his person doing so. He is best suited in a home as an only dog however he has one BC friend in this rescue group, his integration in a home with another dog would be best suited for a nonchalant companion that share the affection of their owners and would like to play a little with him maybe just snuggle on the bed. He is still healing from some nervousness of the new and exposing him on walks to different places is really helping him. Bailey has such a unique physique with his long legs and longer back and we see huge strides in his muscle and physique by adding a raw diet of meat and veggies to his kibble. Bailey would do great on a ranch interacting with his human, a suburb would work out swell for him, we think he would also enjoy road trips and camping. Having a fence is mandatory for Bailey, children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; an excited human partner to share his life with and continue on his recovery path; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch) would be great for him. Bailey's fully vetted, crate and house trained walks nicely on the leash. His adoption donation is $275 there is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. (Less)

Winston: 2.5 yr; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Smooth Short Haired Coat; Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Winston was a lost soul loose in Alief Houston just darting between a few streets wondering what happened to him and where did his people go. It took a team of kind Samaritans one month to earn his trust and follow them into a large fenced area so he could be rescued! Yes trust for Winston is HUGE, he does best in an apartment or condo, he prefers this living to a large house and yard. This young boy has a story that has left behind scaring on his hind legs most likely from a stake in the ground and ... (Read More)rope as he was a growing pup he must have twisted himself so badly creating these scares. Winston is now a very healthy strong boy who acts like a puppy that doesn't want to be an outside dog anymore he is actually quite happy tossing toys in the air in his fosters apartment and coming over for a kiss while she is studying; cuddling up with his BC foster sibling; his daily walks and even some light jogging; and has learned how to relax for car rides. He has totally overcome fears of when his foster mom or roommate lift their feet they are not going to kick him or push him and the same is true for any reaching of their arms or body movement. Winston has only been in Austin TX foster care for just a few months, he really has enjoyed the trust and teaching of touch and human movements from his foster; he no longer tries to flea on the leash and can walk gently now; likes to play with dogs; he can be nervous/fearful with new people and is continuing to be introduced to strangers who come to visit and take him for a walks as well. Overall this boy is gently moving forward in life awaiting his Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home. Winston is looking for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home that can continue this trust in the home and with people. We are uncertain of his recall for a doggie park and will be starting to evaluate that and train for fun and safety. An ideal home for Winston is an apartment or condo; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); children 8 and up that are gentle and appreciate a soft pup; daily walks and toy time inside the home and he is a happy pup! He is house trained, leash trained, prefers the floor to a crate. Winston's adoption donation is $275, there is an application to fill out and home visit if applicable. (Less)

Border Collie    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mindi: 1 yr; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Companion; Tri Colored Gold Rough Coat Border Collie; Weight 40 lbs. Lovely Mindi was found running on a very busy state Hwy in Houston TX and thankfully she stopped long enough to be rescued. She has an interesting history originally belonging to a rancher whom she followed everywhere but she would also run on the unfenced property and visit other neighbors and then was adopted to a man who owned a junk yard as a guard dog. Mindi has no guarding or barking in her nature not even when her other foster Border Collie's sense a deer near their property she is just a casual gal who LOVES the outdoors, ... (Read More)discovering that she does like a few toys (soccer ball/Frisbee/tug toys) with her foster mom's engaging nature brining this out in her, enjoys her casual walks and likes to be inside joining her foster siblings and her family. Now don't expect any tricks from Mindi except her favorite roll over belly rub and hugs she has even leaped onto her foster mom's lap after a fun day running with her foster pack. Mindi can be an only dog or with a stimulating pup partner she has learned so much more in life and in herself. We have found that she will do best in a home where someone works from home or is home most of the day as she LOVES to be outside and being cooped up inside won't work for this beautiful Border Collie. Mindi would be up for some light hiking, daily walks even large pack walks she enjoys, she is a little reserved with new people but she loves everyone she meets you really can't ask for a better dog. She must have a fenced in property and children that are gentle preferably over 8, she can live in an interactive suburban home or a ranch setting as long as she has her treasured time with her humans. Mindi's adoption donation is $275, she is fully vetted, house trained and does not need a crate of course there is an application to adopt and home visit if applicable. (Less)

Snoopy is a 3yo border collie x blue heeler mix. He LOVES people, and very much wants to please his handler. He always has a smile on his face, and loves playing with his toys. He definitely comes from working dog lineage, as he has a VERY high herding drive. Without better training, I would not recommend him for a home with livestock. He tolerates my other dogs of all shapes and sizes, but he would be most happy not having to share his person with another dog. He is treat motivated, and has a very soft mouth. We takes treats very gently from your hand. He is extremely quiet, I have only heard him bark on one occasion, we have been ... (Read More)fostering him for almost three months. I bring him to work with me during the day, and he is very mellow. He has a medium energy level for a working dog, and LOVES his daily walks. He weighs about 35lbs, and is just a really great dog. He needs an owner that understands the intelligence and the non stop thinking that the working breeds are known for. This dog is a wonderful dog, but like all working breeds, he needs a strong leader that will set boundaries for him. His favorite thing in life is pleasing his handler. He learns VERY quickly. I taught him how to sit/lay down in a number of minutes. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brie: 10 Months; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Active Companion; B/W Rough Coated Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Were you looking for a pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than ... (Read More)just playing in the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction (Less)

Tip shows strong herding traits with his herding stance and moves that his BC pack mates enjoy during the games of chase and herd. He has a wonderful innate sense with dogs and he loves to play with like-minded dogs; fast and fun on the leash he enjoys doing tricks with the clicker and has taught himself shake with those big fun pawz. Tip is very curious about life, might make a great bike a long candidate; loves hike trails; very eager to please and always at eager attentive with his human. Tip is a quirky and expressive pup, he still learning about trust with strangers and enjoying his socialization lessons in real world environments. He knows if I ask 'show mommy' he has something maybe he should not, he steps back and waits for me to see or drops it-really nice to have such a respectful youth! Fortunate for Tip and his littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation of trust and understanding allowing Tip to find his true self. This was an accidental litter from Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet and quality kibble. An ideal home for him would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; great fun exercise in AM and PM and a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); an excited human partner to enjoy life with; having his human and pup pack to bond with and enjoy. Tip's adoption donation is $325. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. He is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ****I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus Tip's training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises. Leash trained in scenic social human and pup neighborhoods; historic areas of Houston for stimulation within a city; walking trails and bike trails; mini hike in areas that are socially oriented but also very peaceful; running errands with me and carpooling with another dog learning patience in the car and wait for the one on one lessons; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction; using the curious nature to enjoy all the smells at pet store and feel positive at the vets office.****** (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Texas
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
