It's with a heavy heart that I write this post but it's a decision that unfortunately had to be made. We have come to the decision that while we love and care for Charlie that we simply cannot provide him with all that he needs to enjoy a fulfilling life. He needs so much more attention and dedication than we can currently provide him. He needs a yard to run and play and feel free. Something that neither of us can really provide. He has been well taken care of in the meantime and I wouldn't go back and change the path we took him on. We rescued him and nurtured him but simply have to make the tough decision to try and give him to a ... (Read More)better home. He is a good and sweet boy and it really hurts to have to make this decision. For the particulars: He is a Border Collie mix.~7 months old. ~50 lbs. He is up-to-date on all of his shots. He was de-wormed early on, he was not being well taken care of at all by the place we rescued him from. He knows sit and lay as well as several random commands/key phrases. He could definitely use a lot more attention when it comes to obedience and jumping but he is a good boy. He is pretty good about house-training and has only had excitement accidents in recent months. He is also pretty good about being in the kennel but sometimes will announce his displeasure with it. He could also use more dedication to leash control. He is extremely high energy given his Border Collie side and loves to run around and play. It's all a process and one that we simply don't have the ability to be as dedicated as we need to be with him. It hurts everyday not to be able to provide him what he needs but I am glad that we were at least able to provide him with a safe haven. We want to give him to a good home and will wait as long as it takes to do that. So if you know someone who might be interested and able to provide that we'd love to talk with them. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, Unfortunately, we need to re-home a 4 year old Border Collie mix named Daisy that we have had for about 2 months. She's very energetic and and fun to play with! She has no health problems that I'm aware of, is up-to-date on vaccinations and is already spayed. She came to my home after 2 somewhat neglectful owners. She did have some problems pulling on the leash and she's an escape artist, but I've been taking her to training lessons to try to correct her problem behavior. She's 100% potty-trained and has never had an accident in the house. Sadly, she bit my husband's hand and broke skin, and for our own safety, we have decided to ... (Read More)try to re-home her. This is a heart-wrenching decision, but I don't have the time or knowledge to rehabilitate this dog. I think she might do best as an outside dog where she can be free and run around. If you can help us at all, that would be much appreciated. Thank you. (Less)

Hi, I'm Remie an adorable and very loving 1 yr BC mix. I'm 26 lbs and almost full grown so i will be a lower medium sized doggie perfect for any family and lifestyle. I'm very shy with people but so want to be loved and cared for. I lean into my foster when she pets me and I am very gentle, just scared. I will need a very patient and experienced adopter who is willing to work with me until I can trust. My rescue mom says I haven't had any bad relationships with people, just haven't had any and have to learn to live with a person. But I want to and when I see my fur friends get pets I want to come for some too. I just need to grow in ... (Read More)confidence and I hope that you will give me the chance as I will be awesome once I come around mom says. And I'm very smart so we all know I can do it! I will be spayed, chipped, am hw neg and on prevention, and have all my shots. Thank you for considering letting me be your next best fur friend! I promise i am worth it. Love, Remie (Less)

Luna is a 9wk old, female Border Collie mix. (We are purely guessing on breed!) She is a spunky little girl with lots of personality & attitude. She is very animal social & curious. Loves to be with her human, romping with her foster siblings or snacking on a bone. She is learning her house training skills. Crate trained, Luna was saved from a back yard breeder when she was 3 weeks old. She was attacked by another dog resulting in part of her upper lip & nose missing. She has made an amazing recovery! Due to being taken from her mom too early she is still learning proper socialization. QUESTIONS: ALMOSTHOMEANIMALS@YAHOO.COM TO ... (Read More)ADOPT: WWW.ALMOSTHOMERESCUETX.ORG (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-06-00048Scooter (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Scooter is a 3.5 year old Border Collie, weighing 45 lbs. He has reached his adult weight and height. This guy has my respect. I pulled him from a high kill shelter in San Antonio, Texas when he was almost 3 months old. He was very emaciated and his rear leg had with a bone sticking out and broken in several places. Someone had abused him. But Scooter was still happy and loved to be held and his sprits had not been broken. He has been a trooper from day one, never making a sound even though he was in a lot of pain. Even though his leg was so bad; the vet considered amputation but decided to watch the bones heal. They leg healed but he ... (Read More)has a limp that doesn't stop him from running and jumping. His room is upstairs and he bounces up the stairs all the time. And he loves for me to play chase with him in the backyard. His complete medical records and x-rays will come with him at the time of adoption. Someone else named him early on but his name Scooter so deserves, he is a SCOOTER. He only barks when he is talking to you or to alert me that someone is near our gate in the backyard. He bounces around still like a puppy and just a very happy guy. He gets along with everyone. Scooter will let a dog cuddle with him, eat out of his bowl and share his toys. To sum Scooter up, he is just a fun loving guys who smiles all the time and gives you love every day. You cannot help but smile back at him and laugh because he sits there with a goofy grin on his face looking at you until you do smile and tell him something good. This is the type of dog that you want to come home to, he is a best friend best buddy pal for sure. He has a beautiful black wavy coat and he does not tend to shed with regular baths, he will sit still for a bath, then he goes and takes a long nap. %BD%81S There is nothing better to Scooter than having his head scratched and getting some attention from him human. And a rawhide, he chews on them and plays with them! He is not demanding and very low maintenance. He eats regular dry food but he watches to see if you might share your food with him!!!! While he has been in my care, he has helped heal the soul of other rescue dogs brought into my home that didn't have the best start in life. Scooter just seems to know what is going on. His best friend was another bigger white border collie who only has 3 legs. Bradley was hit by a car. Scooter instantly took to him and became his hearing dog and totally took care of Bradley. Sadly Bradley got adopted and Scooter has been searching for another best buddy. ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED. Roxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our foster dogs are raised in private homes. Each dog comes spay/neutered (fixed), up to date on vaccinations and rabies shots appropriate for their age, and dewormed twice. They are microchipped, heartworm tested and proof of the results of the heartworm test are included with their medical records; also on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

This is Chloe, she is approximately 8 years old and spayed. She loves everyone and some creatures. She has some food bowl aggression and she is dominant. I have been able to establish myself as dominant so she is not as bad as she used to be. There is nothing wrong with her. My family can longer take care of her and we want her to find a home where she is loved. She was rescued from a no kill shelter from my wife and I when she was younger. We and the shelter believe she was beaten and neglected prior to coming to us. She still cowers when you go to pet her at times but she just wants love.

**IF INTERESTED/INQUIRING ABOUT ADOPTING, YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION LOCATED AT H3RDFW.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION. HIS ADOPTION FEE IS $250.** Hi! My name is Andy. I am a 2 year old Australian Shepherd mix who has a lot of energy and a really engaging personality. I've heard people say that I have a gorgeous coat. Don't know about that, but I love getting brushed. I love to play fetch, and I will even bring the ball back to you... most times. My favorite toy is the jolly ball. I can play with the jolly ball for a long time and it's a party for one! Here are my best qualities: I am: House trained and Crate trained. I love my ... (Read More)crate! It's my safe place! I know basic obedience, sit, stay, down, come, heel, leave it, drop it and more I enjoy riding in the car once we get going. I don't bark or growl at passing cars, people, or dogs. I am a perfect gentleman when out in public I love to cuddle and receive affection I am an amazing alert dog. My bark is extremely fierce, so no one will come into my home without an invite. I am a wonderful young dog that has a lot of potential, with the right family. Now that being said, I do have some issues that would require my future forever family to be very experienced with reactive dogs. When a person comes towards me, especially in doorways or closed off spaces, I am 'HYPER-REACTIVE'. This means that I will lunge and bark excessively at those who are approaching me. Sometimes I get so worked up that I have saliva at the corners of my mouth. Basically I go into extreme panic mode of flight or fight. My trainer said that it's almost like I suffer from a form of PTSD when I feel trapped. When I meet dogs or strangers in 'open' areas, I do much better with initial meetings. You may wonder how, you, as my potential adopter should handle these situations. The answer is: Let me be in my crate with a great bone to chew on when people and/or dogs are coming into our home. Make sure I'm on a leash and in your control when going to meet new people or dogs. A ball can divert my attention fast. Thunder coats help me relax and feel secure. As a wrap up, I am Andy and do have issues with confidence and meeting new people and dogs in close spaces, but I'm also a big ball of love and laughter! I don't run, I BOUNCE when I'm happy and excited. I'm fully vetted and ready for my family! (Less)

He can be overly stimulated using his herding mouth but tricks and redirection help this young man know the direction his human is asking for. He does focus on a variety of balls as he runs and explores things, actually easy on the leash but strong if something catches his interest and totally excited when we run and play in a few hill hike/bike trails enjoying commands for jogging as well. Tip is more private about his comfort level for love/petting and is working on this as he does enjoy our fun hugs and makes eye contact. Tip is looking for an experienced dog person who understands the sensitivities of the Border Collie and may not be suitable for off leash. You see his litter came to my rescue July 4th 2014 at 4 months of age which is a prime life experience for any dog. He is still learning about strangers and how they should approach him for the best positive experience. He is not suitable for cats and children/grandchildren as he is scared of people with fast movements and can fear bark it's just not a fit for him.     BIOS ARE BEING UPDATED THIS IS A VERY UNIQUE HIGH ENERGY DOG INQUIRE WITHIN Weight 25 lbs. Were you looking for a 21 month old pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than just playing in ... (Read More)the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reactio (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Texas
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
