Rescue Me ID: 16-07-16-00435Mackenzie (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Mackenzie-Mack for short. My foster Mom thinks I am the sweetest dog she has ever had in her house! I was rescued along with 14 other dogs. Our owner could not take care of us and we were starved. ADA took me in and boy am I lucky!! I had never lived in a house, so I was scared at first when I walked into one, but within 48 hours, I was making myself right at home. I have a foster brother Border Collie and we play together and sleep together at night. I have full roam of the house and do not chew or destroy anything---my foster Mom is amazed at that! She does not crate me-just puts me in a big room with a doggy gate if she has to ... (Read More)leave the house for a while. My potty habits are PERFECT. I was used to going outside, since I never lived in a house, so I know not to potty inside. I am learning to like chew bones and toys. I never had any and they sure are fun! The BEST thing about me is that I am OK with cats! My foster Mom has 3 and we are not 'buddies' but I let them do what they want to do. We pass each other and they ignore me (cats can be that way!!), so I ignore them. The only thing I don't like so far is the vacuum, but I know I will get used to it. I eat well and eat anything my foster Mom feeds me. I love all dogs and people. I am shy at first, but my foster Mom says that is better than being aggressive and jumping all over people. I warm up real fast. I like to follow my foster Mom around the house and sit quietly while she does her chores. She says I am just PERFECT!!! (Less)

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

What can you say about handsome 2 yr. old Linus? His alert eyes, eagerness to please and gentle nature give insight into his soul. Linus was a shelter favorite in North Carolina which started him on his journey to our rescue. He has the independence of a working dog, but the softness of a pet. Linus bonds quickly with his person and can be quite protective. We think he does not like to be confined to small spaces, preferring to be looking out over his turf. Linus is developing his vocabulary as any smart BC does; harness, leash, walk, car are among the words he likes to hear. Linus knows how to sit, but loves to play ball, be silly and go ... (Read More)for rides in the car in which he is well behaved. He deserves an experienced home with someone who understands a working dog and uses kindness and positive reinforcement for training. Older children preferred, other dogs might work, and we don't know about cats yet. Linus should go to a home that is experienced with this breed. Border Collies and Great Pyrenees are both herding breeds and require a very active environment. Frequent daily walks and exercise is vital to keep this breed happy and content. Frisbee and agility training would be good examples of the type of exercise necessary. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
