Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Hugo is about 5 years old and an extremely caring companion who has been living with a friend near her dad's farm for a few months. He just recently began to go after the cows (border collie instincts!!)and is now in danger of being put down if we can't find him another home. He lived with me for 3 years in New Orleans, LA and was an amazing protector and companion. He does well with a very clear leader and enjoys having a job... and getting on the bed to cuddle! He weighs about 65-70 pounds, loves to go on long walks, but is happy to lounge around all day as well.

Old Towne Pet Resort in Springfield graciously created a seamless transition for these pups from the shelter to their resort where the dogs are being cared for, evaluated, nurtured and prepared for their forever homes. OPH truly believes that 'It Takes a Village' to make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. Through this Project Hurricane initiative, we have seen the best of our local business partners and could not be more proud to partner with them! This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
