Rescue Me ID: 17-03-21-00484Lena (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

If you are looking for a darling dog to be the apple of your eye... meet Lena! Lena is a hilarious and fun-loving little 4 year old BC/Spitz mix that loves 'her' people and will be especially devoted to that one person. She's a fast little girl with lightning speed at times and an independent spirit. If you understand the independent nature of spitz-type breeds, you'll get Lena. However, she also has that border collie intelligence and trainability, where she can pick up new commands in no time flat. Lena is a bit of a watch dog, and will let you know when she thinks someone is at the door. She spins in circles in the places she loves ... (Read More)the most (like the back door, and the kitchen, and the area by the cookie jar, and...) and she can be very expressive in what she wants. Lena does like to play with other dogs, especially larger males. She's pretty petite at about 30 lbs! She also loves to give her people kisses and sleep right next to them. Because of her breed type and possibly her background, she is timid around new people. She's not a 'life of the party' type and prefers to go upstairs when we have company. She is also slow to warm up to new people, but once they have joined her circle, they are there for life (hint: you can join her circle by sitting down and offering her some tasty snacks - Lena LOVES SNACKS). She does have a sense of humor and can be very funny, often repeating what she's done so you laugh at her again, which makes winning entry to her circle all the more worthwhile. Lena loves riding in the car, and likes to stick her face out the window (we only do this while riding in the neighborhood). She also likes snacks (did I mention that already?) and sleeping on the tallest part of the couch. She does not like children, and will not be placed in a home with children, unfortunately. She thrives around adults who enjoy spending time in the company of dogs. She also loves playing with squeaky toys, and likes tossing them up in the air and catching them. Lena is crate trained (though she would rather be with you), house trained, spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on all shots. She gets along well with dogs that are a little quieter and more reserved. She likes to be brushed (which is a necessity with her thick, soft coat!), and does fine having her feet and face handled. She's a great little girl for an owner looking for a devoted companion - are you the person for her? If so please fill out an application at https://www.petstablished.com/pets/public/97732. SOHO is a registered 501c3 dog rescue and requires that your existing and past pets are up to date on heartworm preventative and vaccinations in order to be eligible to adopt. Titering in lieu of vaccination is acceptable with proper documentation. Lena is being fostered in Midlothian, VA. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-21-00469Logan (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Single border collie mix male (SBCMM) seeks single female for companionship and adoration. Likes long walks to the refrigerator, naps on the couch, and barking at the cable guy. Are you Logan's forever home? Logan is looking for the retirement life! He's a sweet, quiet, protective older man in a dog body and just KNOWS there's got to be a home out there for him. He's been with our program for a few months and would really like a home (and a lady) to call his own. When we say he's a sweet old man, we mean it! He's a little grumbly when the cable guy comes around, barks at strangers on his lawn, and would prefer to take a quiet amble down ... (Read More)a quiet street rather than a high-octane hike in the mountains. He is absolutely adorable and fluffy as all get out (seriously, he's actually half the size he appears - all that is HAIR). He's not so fond of the gentlemen, but adores the ladies. And look at all he has to offer: he'll let you know when someone's at the door, without question. He's not so terribly fond of kids unless they're older and can respect his space. He's fine with cats that also respect his lifestyle of napping in the sun, begging for snacks, and then napping in the sun some more. He's gentle when he does take treats, and just really wants someone to chill around, where he can make the highlight of his day watching out the window. Logan probably needs to be an only dog, as he's pretty not interested in sharing affection. He's a wonderful guy if you're looking for an older, calmer, quieter companion to share your home with. Logan is in good health, up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on heartworm and flea prevention. His jumping through hoops and burning rings of flame days are over, and he'd much rather settle down into retirement. If you'd like to adopt Logan, please go to www.saveourherdersoutreach.org, click on adoptable dogs, and then on Logan's photo to get to the adoption application. This sweet old man will be waiting! Logan is being fostered in Zuni, VA. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Beren, a sweet boy who loves to please. We think he is part Border Collie and part Lab. No matter his pedigree he is great dog. He is smart and loves to learn. Beren gets along with other dogs and has never met a stranger. He is a good guard dog, he barks to let you know someone is approaching the house. Then he greets them at the door with his tail wagging. He gets along with our 2 dogs really well. Beren would be fine as an only dog or in home with a canine brother or sister. He is crated trained and he goes in it on his own at feeding time. He has free roam of the house otherwise. On chilly nights, your feet will never be cold, he ... (Read More)loves laying on them. He would welcome an invitation to join you on the sofa/bed so he can snuggle. If that is not for you, all you have to say (in a gentle voice) is 'no' and he does the traditional dog circle and lays down. He is a perfect gentleman. Beren walks well on a leash most all the time. He can be distracted by other dogs and people in public. We are working on his pulling, by using a gentle leader and lots of treats. His appearance is a show stopper. Everywhere we go people comment on his markings. He is 70 pounds with a speckled neck, chest and legs. It looks like he is wearing 4 socks and a scarf to match. Beren is a gentle soul that does not understand that he is not lap dog. He loves people and loves to snuggle. His favorite way to play is to wrestle around on the floor. Because of his size, he will have to be adopted to a home with children over 12 yrs. of age. Beren is neutered, UTD on Rabies and Vaccines, on HW and flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in applying for Beren, please fill out an adoption application at https://www.petstablished.com/pets/public/87238. His adoption fee is $250.00. He is being fostered in New Market, VA. SOHO is a registered 501c3 dog rescue and requires that your existing and past pets are up to date on heartworm preventative and vaccinations in order to be eligible to adopt. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-21-00436Rory (male)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rory is a beautiful pure bred border collie with the kind of good humor given to young children. We think if he could talk, he would probably talk in all caps - 'YAY WATER!' (he does love the water), 'OH COOL TREATS!' (he loves snacks), 'HEY HUMAN!' (he adores people of all shapes, ages, colors, and sizes). He has the typical energy level of a border collie and he will need someone in his life that can manage and direct that energy. He gets along good with other dogs, so long as they don't mind him trying to be 'dominant'. We think this is part of his playful personality instead of a true need to dominate. Regardless, he would do best with ... (Read More)submissive dogs or patient alpha females (whom he gets along with great). He does know to leave other dogs alone if they growl at him, and will go to great lengths to avoid them if they tell him very certainly 'No' (in dog language, of course). Rory adores people. His favorite thing to do is to snuggle into your arms and hide his face, or put his paws on your lap and sniff your face until you pet him. He is very happy-go-lucky, but will need positive reinforcement training. Like most border collies, any application of force will make him shut down. Rory walks okay on a leash, but could use some lessons. He has mastered 'sit' and 'down' and he has an especially good recall for a young dog. He willingly goes in his crate when you ask him to. He is house broke and will ring the bell on the back door when he needs to go out. Rory is 3.5 yrs. old, but he still a puppy at heart. He does need to go to an active home so they can exercise his mind as well as his body. Rory would be an excellent casual agility dog - he has an amazing flat foot vertical jump - and as such, we require a fenced yard and the absolute assurance that he will not be left alone in the backyard by himself. He is curious and gentle with people, but children in the house need to be 12+ years old. When Rory does quiet down, he likes to snuggle. He is very curious about everything you do, and likes to follow you room to room. He limits his chewing to toys and bully sticks and he LOVES water. We are not sure how he would do with cats. He also LOVES to play fetch. We are working on returning the ball ALL THE WAY. Rory is a super boy that's going to need a super home! Fill out your application today! To submit an application, please go to this link: https://www.petstablished.com/pets/public/72307. Rory is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and heartworm negative. SOHO is a 501c3 non-profit, and requires that your current animals are up to date on vaccines and heartworm preventative. If you would like to contact Rory's foster mom, please e-mail tinagrove@ymail.com. (Less)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is HIRO; I am 3 yr. old purebred Border collie and I have my ABCA Certificate of Registration. I love people, so that means you have to enjoy kisses, lap sitting and the occasional hug; I do respect the word 'down'. I am high energy and I LOVE to play fetch and tug; I even enjoy herding the hard Jolly Ball in my foster Moms yard, she says I have a natural gift to herd sheep etc. I get along with dogs of all sizes and energy levels. Bully stick and chew bones are some of my favorites but I love my squeaky donuts. I am a smart boy; I know Sit, Down, Stay and Come. I get a little excited when walking on a leash, so my Foster ... (Read More)Mom's thinks I will benefit from a basic obedience class. I am crate trained, I like to be brushed, and I don't mind having my feet wiped. I even tolerate her cleaning my ears. I am looking for a SPORT/WORKING home that can keep me entertained and mentally stimulated. Daily walks are just not enough for me. I love to chase/herd anything that moves, so Mom says no indoor cats or children under 12 yrs. old. She also wants my new family to have previous herding dog experience so they know how to handle my energy level. I am neutered, UTD on my Rabies and Vaccines, I am also on HW and flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in applying for me, please do so at https://www.petstablished.com/pets/public/112462.     Smitty is said to be between 1 and 2 yrs old. He is a young boy with a lot of energy. He gets along with the resident dog at his foster home. Smitty is as smart as a whip. When learning new commands and tricks, he responds well to treats and positive reinforcement. So far, Smitty has learned sit, stay, come and shake. This handsome boy is completely house trained. Not a single accident since he has been in his foster home. He is also crate trained, but tends to be a bit whiny about being alone. Smitty loves company, even if just for a quick trip outside. He likes to go on walks and has been working on his leash manners. Smitty loves to ... (Read More)play. When he first arrived, he wasn't sure what toys were or even how to chew a bone. A heavy chain was nearly embedded in his neck, and his fur was full of mats.He had heartworms when rescued, but has since been treated. Kovu is now a healthy, happy pup. He is very loving, but can not be around other dogs. Kovu will seem okay with most dogs at first, but will randomly snap on them so he MUST be an only dog. Cats are fine. We would keep him but we have two dogs who he very strongly dislikes.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
