Animal ID: 7427Irma's Gracie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Irma's Gracie! Go here (https://youtu.be/QA0ygrhZKHY) to see her playing in the leaves, and go here (https://youtu.be/nJBFAQZjCJk) to see her playing with a neighborhood friend! Check out her official adoption video (https://youtu.be/GmYjhu-v9EY)! She could spend hours in the yard just watching the world (and squirrels) pass by. Gracie is very low key but loves a good sprint around the yard, a long walk around the neighborhood, or a leisurely stroll through the woods. Afterward, she loves a good belly rub and nap! Those beautiful chestnut eyes paired with her soft coat make her an irresistible couch snuggler. Be warned: she doles ... (Read More)out the softest and most genuine kisses once she knows you! Gracie is about 4 years old and just under 50 pounds. She might be shy with her humans at first and skittish to quick movements over her head, but she warms up so well and shows you her sweet, playful, silly side in due time. She has loved the people she met, even the kids, and warmed up quickly. Gracie wants to be near people and loves attention but does not demand it and is very respectful of humans, as she doesn't jump on people to greet them and is very gentle and unassuming. She is content to play by herself, but will also play with people. Looking for a retriever? It's likely in her blood, but she'll need some help with those skills! Gracie has been around children in her foster home aged from 6-16 with calm demeanors and enjoys being their bunk mates! Gracie has found some fabulous canine playmates at her foster homes, but she is selective. Dog parks might not be in her future; but she might have some fun-loving times with her carefully selected doggy friends. Cats have seemed to be of little interest to Gracie, so far. During her stay with a foster, she encountered a few outdoor and stray cats and had no interest in them. She might show similar disinterest in them in a household. She would make a wonderful addition to so many families. Gracie hasn't had any accidents and once she learns the routine, she will let you know when she has to go outside by scratching at the door most used to go outside. At 4 years old, she seems to be past the chewing stage and generally minds her own business when it comes to things on the counter top (within reason, because who can ignore bacon if it's sitting right there??!) This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read about heartworm disease here: Read more about heartworm disease here here From where does 'Irma's Gracie' get her name? OPH partnered with Olde Towne Pet Resort and Arlington Animal Hospital to assist 21 dogs who found themselves in the path of superstorm Hurricane Irma. Through the generosity of these two organizations, we were able to bring in these dogs and ensure they were out of harms way! Olde Towne Pet Resort in Springfield graciously created a seamless transition for these pups from the shelter to their resort where the dogs are being cared for, evaluated, nurtured and prepared for their forever homes. Arlington Animal Hospital evaluated each and every dog and provided preventatives and medical attention for all noted ailments. OPH truly believes that 'It Takes a Village' to make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. Through this Project Hurricane initiative, we have seen the best of our local business partners and could not be more proud to partner with them! ****Gracie is a deserving dog that is eligible for an extended trial adoption. We know how special she is and want to give adopters the chance to get to know this wonderful dog that we have come to know and love!**** (Less)

He arrived from North Carolina where he was briefly in two different rural shelters who saw his potential and transferred him to OPH to help find the perfect forever home for him. Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Maverick is a black and white 3 year old neutered male Border Collie mix. He does well with adults but is a very dominate dog. He needs to go to an owner that understands the needs of Border Collies. He is very active and loves swimming, running, and agility courses. He is very food motivated. He should not go to a home with children or other animals. He tolerates our deaf double merle Aussie, but they do occasionally fight. He is being re-homed because he is terrified of my toddler and do not have the ability to work with him and keep my daughter safe. He knows many tricks and is house trained. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
