Border Collie Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

They are two sisters, 14 years old, border collie/Australian shepherd mixes. They are inseparable and very loving dogs. Good with most other dogs, depending on the personality of the other dog. Good with cats (one is terrified of them, the other ignores) and kids, still fairly high energy but a lot calmer now that they are old. Goofy and loving, very intelligent trained with sit/stay/come (though they're a bit deaf nowadays). Rachel will bark in the mornings when you get up, no matter what, so you can expect that greeting each morning--whether that's annoying or endearing is up for debate :) Looking ideally for a home with a yard and ... (Read More)someone who is home often throughout the day to give love and let outdoors. Expenses WILL be compensated, so really just need a good home without adding the burden of costs. Though eventually looking for a full-time home, fostering would absolutely help for a couple weeks or months, if someone is up for that but not adoption. Timeframe is ASAP. (Less)

Animal ID: 4615Polly (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Polly is a border collie mix about 5 years old. When she first came into a WV shelter she was pregnant and terrified of everything. The shelter was able to find a rescue quickly after her getting to the shelter, so she could have her puppies in a foster home instead of the shelter's floor. The rescue adopted out the puppies, but thought Polly was too scared to adopt out. Polly returned to the WV shelter where she waited another 2 years for another chance. In those 2 years at the shelter she became familiar to the regular volunteers and bonded with several dogs she shared runs with. For the past month and a half she has been in a foster home ... (Read More)where she is learning how to become a 'real dog'. At her foster home she is learning about car rides, new people (still working on), cats, walking on a leash and just being pet and given individual attention. Polly was unsure about all of the new changes, but is making great strides. Walking on a leash was a challenge for her because the other end of the leash was a stranger. Polly is still learning to go to the bathroom outside when she is on a leash, but has no accidents if she has a fenced in yard to use the bathroom. She is learning that people are not bad and will usually go up to sniff strangers instead of running and hiding like she used to do. Because Polly can still be shy we recommend a calm household would work best for her. Another dog would also be preferred because she looks up to the confident dogs around her on how to act in situations she is unsure about. Polly will make a great companion. She is loves the people she has been living with and acts like what you picture a normal dog acts like. Polly is full of personality and enjoys playing with other dogs and then enjoys relaxing on the couch. Polly may be shy, however she is completely adoptable and would like a home to call her own. Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

NEW ARRIVAL ! Callie This 4 year year old lady is a border collie from working stock. She does have a smooth coat which will make it easier than owning a rough coat. She was working cattle but then chained up to a dog house after. For a border collie her heart is not in working 100% and would rather be on a lap with a human companion or a couch. She loves all humans but at times has a hard time with dogs getting up in her face and will react. Callie has a great recall and would make a great walking/running or hiking partner. If you love the border collie breed for being smart, devoted and loving this is the girl for you. $175.00 (puppies ... (Read More)$200) adoption donation helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases, microchipped and vaccinated for rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites if needed. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as surgeries and dental. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
