Meet Beren, a sweet boy who loves to please. We think he is part Border Collie and part Lab. No matter his pedigree he is great dog. He is smart and loves to learn. Beren gets along with other dogs and has never met a stranger. He is a good guard dog, he barks to let you know someone is approaching the house. Then he greets them at the door with his tail wagging. He gets along with our 2 dogs really well. Beren would be fine as an only dog or in home with a canine brother or sister. He is crated trained and he goes in it on his own at feeding time. He has free roam of the house otherwise. On chilly nights, your feet will never be cold, ... (Read More)he loves laying on them. He would welcome an invitation to join you on the sofa/bed so he can snuggle. If that is not for you, all you have to say (in a gentle voice) is 'no' and he does the traditional dog circle and lays down. He is a perfect gentleman. Beren walks well on a leash most all the time. He can be distracted by other dogs and people in public. We are working on his pulling, by using a gentle leader and lots of treats. His appearance is a show stopper. Everywhere we go people comment on his markings. He is 70 pounds with a speckled neck, chest and legs. It looks like he is wearing 4 socks and a scarf to match. Beren is a gentle soul that does not understand that he is not lap dog. He loves people and loves to snuggle. His favorite way to play is to wrestle around on the floor. Because of his size, he will have to be adopted to a home with children over 12 yrs. of age. Beren is neutered, UTD on Rabies and Vaccines, on HW and flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in applying for Beren, please fill out an adoption application at You can also contact his foster Mom, Deanna at His adoption fee is $250.00. He is being fostered near Mount Jackson, VA. 22842. SOHO is a registered 501c3 dog rescue and requires that your existing and past pets are up to date on heartworm preventative and vaccinations in order to be eligible to adopt. Titering in lieu of vaccination is acceptable with proper documentation. SOHO requires you to provide a Vet reference and 3 personal references and have a home visit prior to meeting any of our foster dogs. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Smitty is said to be between 1 and 2 yrs old. He is a young boy with a lot of energy. He gets along with the resident dog at his foster home. Smitty is as smart as a whip. When learning new commands and tricks, he responds well to treats and positive reinforcement. So far, Smitty has learned sit, stay, come and shake. This handsome boy is completely house trained. Not a single accident since he has been in his foster home. He is also crate trained, but tends to be a bit whiny about being alone. Smitty loves company, even if just for a quick trip outside. He likes to go on walks and has been working on his leash manners. Smitty loves to ... (Read More)play. When he first arrived, he wasn't sure what toys were or even how to chew a bone. After a couple of days watching his foster sister, that changed. He does well with toys and is not aggressive about them. He is not food aggressive, either, but does loves to eat. He is an all around awesome dog that deserves awesome parents that will love him as much as he will love them. PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
