Animal ID: A23419109Sheba (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This country girl initially arrived at the League from West Virginia, along with eight other dogs, through an interstate transfer. Sheba is an expressive girl who is not shy about showing her feelings. During her time with us, she has been very affectionate and playful toward people. She was even reported to be house-trained with good 'house manners' by her previous adopter. Sheba would benefit from positive reinforcement training as she becomes highly aroused by other dogs and cars while on walks (jumps up, barks, pulls on leash) though she had been showing improvement with her previous adopter. Sheba has not been fond of sharing her food ... (Read More)while here and is uncomfortable with some body handling. For these reasons she would do best in a home with teenaged children and above. Rescue Me ID: 14-07-16-00618Helen (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Last year, a forlorn girl anxiously waited to see what was next. One of forty odd dogs found by their mistress' body, Helen couldn't comprehend the structure and close human contact in the rescue environment. Now? Helen accepted grooming and bathing over the summer. Her confidence on lead has grown exponentially. She rooms with Joseph, one of the forty or so, and shows her new found confidence. For now, Helen only comes to events when requested.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
