Rescue Me ID: 16-09-06-00572Thad (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It is our pleasure to welcome Thad to ADA! We were able to save Thad from our friends at Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center when he was diagnosed with Parvo, thanks to a generous grant from Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge! Thad survived Parvo, is completely healthy, and is ready to find his forever home. Thad is a 4 month old Border Collie/Min Pin mix, who is full of energy and loves to play! He would love to be your running partner, and your cuddle partner! Thad is VERY SMART and will need an owner to keep both his mind and body active. He would benefit from a home with a fenced yard or access to a dog park. He loves ... (Read More)playing with both large and small dogs, and doesn't seem to mind cats. $175.00 adoption donation ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough) , microchipped and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites if needed. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as surgeries and dentals. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-30-00181Kovu (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kovu is approximately 3 years old and very full of life. We rescued him off of the side of the road very malnourished and close to death. A heavy chain was nearly embedded in his neck, and his fur was full of mats.He had heartworms when rescued, but has since been treated. Kovu is now a healthy, happy pup. He is very loving, but can not be around other dogs. Kovu will seem okay with most dogs at first, but will randomly snap on them so he MUST be an only dog. Cats are fine. We would keep him but we have two dogs who he very strongly dislikes.

Animal ID: 1Cooper (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Coopers story is a full one. He was chained to a dog house and starving, when my brother found and rescued him. He had to come to Richmond when my brother passed away last year. He has been a great guard dog and I hate to let him go to a new home, but circumstances are that I can't keep taking care of him. I am taking care of a 50 year old handicapped sister and a 3 1/2 year old grandson, plus working full time. The turning factor was when my doctor said I had to slow down... He needs someone who can spend time with him, He is a smart dog and is learning commands. He is fiercely loyal to his family and will not hesitate to bite ... (Read More)intruders. I will pay $200 for his vaccinations and neutering.... Please make Cooper happy and find him a happy family....maybe with a boy to throw balls with. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Border Collie in Virginia
Border Collie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Border Collies are extremely intelligent, faithful dogs who live to please their masters. Border Collies need lots of attention and praise. They respond to high level obedience training and make excellent Frisbee dogs and farm workers. Border Collies do well in large yards or with acreage and they need a job to do. If a Border Collie becomes bored, he will find his own job to do and it may not be the owner's idea of work. Border Collies do well with older children and other dogs, and some Border Collies can coexist with cats. However, it depends on the dog, and generally Border Collies should not be trusted with non-canine pets.
